Are characters given a points discount just for being characters?

    looking at kappas and noxs, an alguacile hacker with an smg would be 13pts. I think 5pts easily pays for all her toys.

    For points discounts, I was looking at Billie compared to an 8 point flash pulse bot.

    I'm still going to say that the points check out, but that has the proviso that attributes below 10 probably doesn't cost anything.

    Yes, it's hyper-optimised, that's what's really changed over the past years. I'm willing to say that a profile released 2018+ that's crap is crap intentionally and a profile that's released optimised is optimised intentionally. You don't get any "conditionally good" stuff like the Combi + Light Shotgun and Skornergy like that unless the unit is meant to have Skornergy (i.e. be as close to bad as you get within the points system)

    Transductor vs Billie:
    6" second move vs 4";
    Sniffer vs E/Mauler;
    11PH vs 10PH;
    Mimetism vs nothing.

    I'd say that's exactly that 2-point difference, if Sniffer costs anything at all.

    Yeah, that's not exactly balanced.

    I think it's more likely that there are multiple people working on profiles, and some of them are more willing to game the points system to give their favorite factions overpowered profiles than others.

    the Problem with progress is that many profiles get left behind . This is irksome for those who like the unit or have the models.

    alguacile hacker is a permanent shelf ornament now.

    supportware: decorative .

    We've known that the SMG is far too cheap for it's in-game abilities for a long time now.

    Exactly.

    No, the problem is that when the points formula changes (like Combi+LSG and Drop Bears), those changes are not reflected across everyone. Aragoto were the first unit to get the new Combi+LSG cost, and Yadu were the first to get the new Drop Bears cost. It took another year from the JSA release (and 6 months from OpsSS) to get the Bolts updated.

    In fact, Black Friar and Locusts were the first to get the new price for the Drop Bears while Bolts were left untouched at all.
    And @Armihaul is right too. Bolts received a 1 point discount all over the profiles during the uptdate. I don't know which skill received it, though.

    All this SMG on new models make me think that in N4 there could be a change to SMG, maybe no more AP ammo.

    It needs to lose both ammo types. I don't want to pay however many points for NWI on my Umbras when they just die to some asshole with an SMG.

    remember that the mayority of models and troops don't have shock damage, NWI is still very rellevant, it was the NWI abuse of some list that forced the use/abuse of shock ammunition

    Optimal troops tend to, because smgs are so cheap points-wise. Mines, SMGs, and marksmanship (due to supportware) are all very common. Whether or not the "majority of troops" have one is meaningless - the question is, is your opponent likely to have a cheap piece with shock ammo they can leverage into getting an easy kill on a 40+ point model? The answer is almost always.

    Some optimal specialist maybe, but not most of all (they are just a minority that displace the others, that's what I think the problem is). Also, most shooters don't have it neither, not SMG, not shock.

    shock is somewhat common, yes, but NWI is not so expensive neither, in most cases seems as if it was free (some aleph characters). . And not everybody has same access to shock. , so some faction can put a bit too much NWI models for those without as much access to shock to handle, to the point that it seems more unfair for the 40+ points 1W troopers without NWI, because the difference is not so much

    Nope, even the Aleph characters pay for it. NWI is plenty expensive; otherwise the BS 12 Umbra profiles wouldn't cost 40+ points. Basically every faction has access to cheap shock in some form.

    Yes, aleph pays for it. But expensive? not when you see, for less cost of an spectr, a 2-body dude, with 1 wound in both and NWI in both, having one of the bodies the same TO+infiltration rule and better BS and WIP.

    I just say that shock need to be as common as it is (and I like to use Perseus, Raoul and Kusanagi), because when there was not so common, it was frustrating playing against those NWI models that pay less than 10 points for that efective extra wound while you have models as expensive, and not much more powerful for the same cost

    The use of Shock ammo hasn't grown naturally, if it had we'd see units like Wu Ming or Reverend Healers etc start prioritising Multi Rifle profiles over Combi Rifle profiles in order to get Shock. Instead what's happened is CB has decided to add a bunch of profiles with a particularly cheap gun that's got Shock on it and we either take them because they are the cheapest profile, the only profile, or the profile with the largest number of options - artificially increasing the number of Shock sources for reasons completely disjunct from the number of NWI profiles.

    Yeah, but Jumpers aren't an argument. The Mk3 body doesn't have NWI and is simply put a Wu Ming with a 20 point discount! Basically all of them have a flat 20 point discount (or very close to 20 points). There's a reason that they are literally auto-includes, because they are easy to get value from, NWI or no NWI.

    In the words of a Warcraft troll; I feel ya, mon. However, my experience with NWI doesn't match yours. Often it's enough to frustrate their active turn and then beat them when they get to play B1 reactive as it's not uncommon to win with 2 or more hits if you win the shoot out. Could it be that what makes other troops expensive is what's maligning the situation? I.e. each point a unit costs can have grossly varied value.
