This is the 14th kickstarter that I have been a part of and all of them have had a big last day no matter the size. The big last day is relative to the size of the kickstarter, but they all have it.
I also believe that they mentioned or it was suggested retailers’ pledges aren’t yet added in to the total, could give a nice bump.
The first thing I would like to point out is that I have been a fan of Infinity for many years, since the beginning of the second Edition. In these years there are many things that have kept me hooked to the game and others that I have not liked. Today, unfortunately, we have to talk about the latter in relation to Infinity Defiance. After seeing how the Kickstater campaign evolves and is organized, I have decided to totally cancel my contribution. Why? For several reasons: 1- The first is of an economic nature: what in the beginning was a complete game in which for 160-180 euros you have a series of extras has resulted, at the middle of the campaign, if you want the complete game (Outcast) you have to spend another 70€ to have more missions and the mission generator. And now a new expansion for another 45€ appears on the horizon. I lowered my contribution to square up and get all the playable missions, but honestly it is a disbursement that, being forced to do at once, at least I can not face being so close to Christmas. 2- The second is how the campaign is mounted: the campaign is an "all or nothing" so if you want the game is your only chance to acquire it. You must buy the game now or you won't be able to buy it in a store later. It seems perfectly respectable that those who sign up for KS are rewarded with rewards for advancing money to finance a product. What I no longer like is that in the middle of the campaign, by surprise, there are Add-ons and extras only associated with the Outcast expansion that either sign up for the Platinum Pledge or you will not be able to enjoy. There will be those who see it as "tempting" the customer to get more rewards putting more money. What I see is that the funder is forced “for XX euros more” to get a complete game. 3- Exclusive figures: not the new characters, but troops like the Jayth, Taigha, or more bleeding cases for a new army with is O-12, the Lynx This "kidnapping" of figures will lengthen the output of oficial Infinity figures. I sincerely hope that in the future Corvus Belli will think about their comercial policy and allow an approach to the game as can be done with Aristeia: little by little and being able to evaluate if the product interests you or not.
Well said. These are not universal truths but certainly relevant for Corvus Belli to consider in the future.
1 - But you don't seem to mean "complete" as in fully functional and playable, as the Core game seems to be. You mean "complete" as in the base game with all extra gameplay content, much like a package deal on Steam. Last I checked, Witcher 3 was a complete game without Blood and Wine or Hearts of Stone. And if you want the base game with the extras from the expansions, you usually pay more. 2 - Yeah, I see this PoV, but this also comes back to the definition of a "complete game". If you think the Core game was worth 100 Euros before, nothing should have changed that calculus since then. Try getting your local retailer to back it and get it from them "little by little" (though, ultimately more expensive). 3 - Considering when Defiance will actually get sent out, it's a good bet that we'll have general release models for at least a few of these units before we ever see the ones shown here on our doorstep. Lastly, I'm not intentionally trying to be hostile, but I think a few complaints are viewing this campaign in terms that I would consider unfair.
I see your arguments. I don't think you are hostile. The point for me is that you are paying for replayability. In your video game example if you are patient (1 year or so) you can aquire the "complete" edition of the game with a discount. In Defiance if you want the complet story with the new rules etc. you need to pay for the "special pack".
I think his point is that you have to buy the DLC before you've even played the game rather than being able to play the base and then buy the DLC afterwards.
In mildly unfair and in comparison to other not-truly-comparable prior KS campaigns. Defiance is playable at the Core level, just without all the bells and whistles, much like a basic car. If you want more amenities to enhance the experience, yes, you’ll pay more.
I don't think we need to critique ALJO's post. They are clearly stated views and are not pee-ing all over anyone else's decision. Sometimes it may not be fact, but perception that is the feedback needed by CB.
Revenant: This expansion includes: 4 new heroes: · JAAN STAAR, KIUUTAN IMPOSTER · KENDRAT, KRAKOT RENEGADE · JOHN HAWKWOOD, MERCENARY OFFICER · VALERYA GROMOZ Valerya Gromoz ... too bad no Bandida. I find the choice of Valerya rather ... redundant, with Jazz doing her Job pretty well. Okay, she is Druze, Dashat and Corregidor, so more NA2 than Nomads, but still ... Well, at least she gets an up-to-date sculpt. PS: While I think about it: A Bandida Character could have done the Job ob Valerya ... sounds like a wasted opportunity.
Plenty of room for a variety of hackers and hacking styles. We will have half a dozen ways to shoot. ;) An added bonus for those who view this as an Infinity Kickstarter... :p
Well, if you look at the Profiles of Jazz and Valerya you will notice many similiarities, not many differences. Different hacking styles would imply ... different hacking devices for instance.
Always trying to stab someone in the back ... 4 heroes vs. 6 new missions hardly sounds like an Infinity Kickstarter, don't you think?
Does someone know where I could by additional color rings for the models? This is also a nice way to mark my combat groups easily.
Just another 6 missions ? I'm disappointed. as hopping for a VS mode. Well good if it comes free with platinium pledge.
No one cares* what the Infinity profiles are Jazz and Valerya are in Infinity, it's how they are different in Defiance. ;) On-the-card stat changes, bonus dice, upgrade paths from the cards, the probable lack of the little buddy remote... As to stabbing anyone in the back, I'd check the assumption it was snark and/or directed at you. But there is a significant vocal group (here and around my local game group) who do view this as a way to get cool models and don't care about the actual game portion of this at all. As we have a local store doing a major retail pledge there may indeed be such options depending on how all those details get worked out. My apologies if the cool tone was overly broad. *the people mentioned above.
Many of my locals are in this same boat. Tons of Infinity minis are an excellent per mini price, even if the total is steep, and if Defiance is good, all the better. Personally, I’m looking forward to playing with rather than against family.
