I don't have to. I just can claim the vast, silent majority likes the game and just doesn't post anything, cause most people only post when they complain. Prove me wrong. Exactly. I'm complaining about the style of "discussion" from some naysayers.
I don't follow every KS, but just example, go look at Zombicide 2nd edition/Oathsworn BGG page...you will have 110/305 threads in their forums...on the other hand you will have 14 posts in Infinity defiance page...so you are basically saying that the more posts sub has, people are actually complaining about the game, while the more deserted sub is, the better game is xD Good to know, and there I was thinking that majority of threads are when people are interested in game, and the less threads you see about game on BGG usually means people are less interested in it...well, one learns new things every day. That Gloomhaven ranked on BGG with close to 12k threads sure has lots of naysayers, not really sure how it climbed there :D
This obviously doesn't be the case for you. You are posting although obviously you are not interested in the Game. So what are you arguing here? You know the games have not the same target audience or the same exposure to potential backers? And you are arguing that because only a few threads exist, the game has to be bad? Wow, what logic. And from these few thread you pull your "general consensus"? Right now there is not much in your life except trying to undermine this Kickstarter, eh? If it's not the right thing for you, that's okay. Raise your complaints and this is it, but for me it looks like you are trying to make a point here. I just don't know what point. I myself won't go to a vegan forum and try to persuade them to eat meat, so what are you doing here?
Well yea, there is nothing in my life at this moment except this KS xD...except it also seems there is nothing in yours too when you expend so much energy defending something to someone who is not interested in it. But I am glad I am able to keep you entertained and focused :D
We have to be right. We can’t merely say, “not my thing for Reasons X, Y, and Z, but more power to the people who do like it” and move on. Additionally, we have to show how this particular thing would be perfect if the creators would just cast off their own vision and follow ours, instead.
Isn't all that discussion derailing very off topic ? There probably is some truth in the fact that this KS is not as popular as zombicide or gloomhaven and you can mesure that based on the number of topics on specialized forums. Is it purely because of the game itself ? Marketing, the the theme, the artistic direction and many other factors weight in. Otherwise we shall all agree that 40k is the best miniature game ever (which most of us here would disagree with).
There's definitely truth to it, and it's at least partly down to metal minis, and partly down to the way CB has locked all the really desirable stretch goals as paid add-ons (which irks the kickstarter crowd who're used to piles of "free" goodies). There are likely other reasons as well. But that said, the game still looks good, the minis look superb, and I personally would much rather throw my money at Defiance than the latest iteration of Zombicide. *shrugs*
Game looks kinda fun, at this rate it'll probably top a million when you factor in the last couple of day's madness. It's not for me, unfortunately it's too expensive, too near Christmas and didn't have enough clarity on longevity early on. I haven't backed it and won't be able to now. As it's not going to retail, I guess I'll be playing other people's copies if at all
Could they have done the Kickstarter "better"? Possibly. The design of the Collectors Edition was probably too generous up front, and a bunch of those miniatures could have been early "stretch goals" to make the whole thing seem more generous overall. But I seriously doubt that there would have been much more interest from the "boardgaming" crowd in any case. There are precisely two complaints in all those threads (which have many positive comments as well, nearly as many as the complainers) which are "why not plastic?" and "it's not totally unique mechanics". I'm neutral on the choice of material personally, but I can understand why some board gamers are not. That was always going to be a limiting factor. As to the mechanics, I've played nearly every major Dungeon Crawler which has been released over the last 30 years (I do a LOT of board gaming with several clubs and groups), I've never seen this combination of mechanics executed this well. The AI is well designed, the respawn system intuitive and effective, the characters interesting and unique. Other things like enemy scaling and character growth also seem good (especially for this early stage). It's simply not a true claim. I DO believe that the board game stands well on its own. Which is why I DO think that an error has been made in not having a "card standee" version of the game at a lower price point. And it's an error which I hope CB can correct ('though I suspect it's too late now to really get big numbers from "the boardgaming crowd").
I agree that it was not aimed at the board game crowd. But I did wish that they included some crazy pledge levels. Kinda like the critical role Kickstarter. If they included a limited high $$$ pledge with a "Bostria" HVT, an autographed set, or AG painted Core, I think they would have more pledges..
Well, probably not more pledges (I suspect most of "those people" are already in), but likely more money pledged.
Edit : The Revenant expansion will be included in the Platinum Pledge level at no extra cost if the campaign hits €850k according to the latest update. It can also be bought as an add-on for €45.
i didn't realize this ks was being run by the us government and their g-men were in here telling you its illegal to say bad things about it
So with 250€ i get both expansion with my core game. Maybe i need to rob a store because this is tempting. Στάλθηκε από το Mi A2 Lite μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk
Only if the campaign hits €850k, though if they get the usual last day surge most Kickstarters see, and once they add retail pledges, that seems very doable.
Zombicide's publisher also doesn't have a forum. While I have no doubt that Zombicide is more popular than Defiance - it's quite possibly that people are talking in places other than BGG (like, for example, here). I don't know about reaching 1mil (unless CB saved an absolute killer for the 840k stretch goal), but even at current pace - 850k is definitely reachable. The campaign averaged 11k per day on its 5 lowest days, that's enough to reach the goal in the remaining time.
Most board game Kickstarters (not sure about in general) receive about 1/3 of their funding in the last 48 of their funding in the last 48 hours. Based on the current pacing, I think 1.2 is actually a pretty safe estimate. I guess flipping it the other way, I would be very very surprised if there's not a big wave of people who are currently thinking about it and ultimately jump on it because of timing/fomo/etc.
