I'm currently designing some laser cut terrain, and working on the windows. In the design should the windows be open, and let the players decide if they can crawl threw it, or should it have frames to make it so a model definitely not move threw. I started a rules thread here and the general point came to player agreement and the terrain in questions.

Why not have a mix? Both provide interesting tactical opportunities.

Yeah, I’m also in the “why not both?”-camp.

My current design is modular, so the walls just have basic holes, and you glue on the frames you want. Layered material is 1mm thick (vs 3mm for building) and may not be sturdy enough to have the the frames in the layers. I'm hoping to have the main wall sections stay as simple as possible and the style is added by adding layers. It lets me reuse components easily.

It comes does to design re-usability. I'm hoping ot have larger unique building, with re-usable components vs lots of re-used buildings.

People who want to crawl through windows drive me nuts. If you can move through every window, then all the windows are just doors.

Booo. If you move through windows, you were raised wrong and you're not invited to my birthday party. >:(

Windows are the preferred way for entering a room dynamically. Especially in a hostage situation.

Nah, make the windows work like the Heavyweight rule. Regardless of how much movement you have, you can only get to just-the-far-side in one order. You want to move faster, use a door like a civilized person.

The issue I have discovered is not so much moving through windows, but shooting through windows. If you have a realistic number of windows, and you allow Line of sight through them, it opens up so many fire lanes, you might as well not have terrain. For the sake of ease, we usually have windows considered opaque. (it is the future, standard safety features: Windows are ballistic glass, and are smart. Windows are connected to a mic system that can analyze noise and recognize the sounds of gunshots. If gunshots are detected, an electrical current automatically opaques the window.)

There are some relatively cheap materials that could make windows a right pain to get through, and in a world like Infinity those are likely to be standard. Especially in sensitive areas where a conflict is most likely to go down.

Now if the trooper has D-charges, that is another matter, but there are already rules for that.

Our house rule is that you can shoot into or out of a building, not through.

Yeah, that's a really common rule to keep the 'Golgo-13 shots' (the ones miraculously working through 12 windows to hit a target) under control, especially in newer metas using GW/swiss cheese buildings.

Just had a chat at some FLGS a couple hours ago as they were painting some LOSBLOCK MDF terrains for their own use.
Those have some sliding doors (maybe windows too) and it seems to be pretty well designed and could be easily opened/closed during the game.

By the way, the whole range looks fantastic and very modular.
After checking their website, their range are sorted as Infinity and ITS so I'm amazed I didn't see those mentioned here before.
