Maybe this is the appropriate place to ask this question.
How i can decide wich Scenarion i have to play? I mean we like to play a bit casual for the moment, so without internal tourbament and so on, but we are approaching on playng scenarios to use the flexibility and stregy inside this game.

How we shoudl decide the scenario? Should we randomize when we start to play? Or we have to choose in advance witch one we play to creare a proper List?

Further question. on the ITS scenario i saw some basic rule (like Banned Weapons and similar) then i see that some scenario have reference for this rules other not, means that all those rules are not automatically active (Council Watch, HTVs and so on) on aonly the one where the entry is listed have the rules active? The issue come where some scenarios have state that the rule is NOT active, and this is confusing me a bit.

Concerning the scenarios, ITS tends to require specific lists. It’s usually best to decide in advance and have both players take a shot at making the right list. Otherwise you run the risk of one player having a big advantage through sheer luck of having the right tools.

If you’re looking for more flexible scenarios that don’t rely as much on certain specialists and so on, check the 20x20 system, check it here.

Only those that mention the rule use it

As you prefer. Normally, a tournament is made with 3 missions and you know in advance, bringing 2 lists to face the three missions. For starting with the game, however, ether roll 1d20 to select a mission then make the list, or pact the mission. Once you are comfortable with listbuilding, you can always make "mock tournaments" copying the mission for those announced in this forum in advance.

Finally, once you know about all the 20 missions, you can pact the three for the "tournament", because some missions are less prone to combine than others (for example, Biotechvore requires its own list).

Usually, the division is in three groups: kill, specialists, and specific (biotechvore is one of the specific missions), so people tend to make their lists more or less following that. Other people make lists that can perform in at least two of those, but one list for open tables (long range, huge ARO, smoke for advancing, etc...) and other for dense tables (shotguns, chain rifles...)

You can choose the scenarios as you prefer. You can do it random, choose one and prepare the list or simple choose the one that you like to try. Is for a casual game, and the most important of the casual game is to have fun. So choose one with your friend, prepare the list and have fun.

If you want to prepare a casual tournament, is the same, choose 3 scenarios do you like, prepare your army lists and enjoy.

Some scenarios have special season rules, like Concilium Watch, so that means that this scenarios have that rule, the other scenarios you dont have to use it.
But remember, during casual games, you can choose not tu use that rules, and play the scenario without that special rules.

ITS rules are fine for casual play (I only play with them).

For casual play, you should decide the mission before playing so you can adapt your list. It would be a pain to take a list tailored for objective focused mission (highly classified, tic tac toe...) and ending up in a fight oriented mission (firefight, decapitation...).

At least, if you don't want to pick up a mission in advance, agree to a limited list of mission with the same style (centred on button pushing, centred on fighting, mixed)

because the structure of the ITS scenarios have Main objectives, Classified Objectives (classified cards) and HVT rules (for classified objectives) If the scenarios specified that HVT rules are not used, you dont need to deploy and HVT.

In our meta, we play every Monday. A week in advance, someone announces three missions for the next Monday. But obviously everybody is free to play whatever they and their opponents like, the three pre-selected missions aren't mandatory.

It's a good system because for people who like to practice for tournaments, you can build two lists in advance tailored to the three missions. On Monday, you and your opponent decide which of the three missions you feel like playing, then you pick one of your two lists as if it was a tournament round.

If you don't feel like practicing for tournaments, you can just show up, pick a mission (from the three or otherwise), then build/play whatever list you feel like.

Ok, I see most more experienced players disagree with my post above, so I’d really like to ask: how do you build your lists? Do you include all types of specialists just in case of? And do you remove the outliers in terms of missions?

My own experience with playing ITS randomly did not go well. I remember one mission where non-HI units got killed by the cold at the end (sorry, I don’t remember the name), and I just happened to have quite a few more than my opponent and had a big advantage. There were a few other cases of serious imbalance. Also, how do you fit all types of specialists without finding yourselves in a situation where you only one or two models capable of achieving the mission?

The order should really be like this:

    1. Choose mission
    2. Both players declare faction
    3. Set up terrain
    4. Both players build their army list
    5. Then start game as per rules with LT roll.

I usually switch 3 and 4 because tables wouldn't be set up for a tourney while you are building your lists. But I think there is general consensus that you choose your mission before you build your list!

I don't know if anybody mentioned it, I just scanned though, but the COMLOG app (The best app on the planet) has a random scenario selector. You can either let it select from all ITS 11 missions, or create an "event" using only a few and pick from those. I highly suggest using Comlog.

    Sure, that's for tournaments.

for Fun, though, you really should build table first. It's not like you wouldn't know what the terrain looks like around your objective(s) in a more realistic situation.

I'm more like this (for casual game) :
    1. Choose mission (a few days/hours before the game) => Usually one of the mission for our next monthly tournament
    2. Build list (a few days/hours before the game)
    3. The "home" player (or the first arrived if playing in a store) set up terrain
    4. Check up terrain with both player
    5. Start the game

Yeah, I did not realise people just built the list on the spot. I guess it adds to the challenge.

Sure it is! But for the deck of classified mission, the only way to have that deck is buy it or there is a lista of objective online?

I think all of that is valid. You can make a table and roll to see what mission, or talk with your friend in advance and both prepare a list for a previously decided mission. You can even create your own missions! Casual play goes beyond ITS (which is mainly a set of rules for tournament).

there can be times that you create the list after seeing the table: both parties have scouted the area and have info in advance. Sometimes you can create the lists before: you have this people and you don't know what is going to happen or what are you going to finde. Even sometimes you can create an history, and make that both table, missions and field have some kind of relationship with the previous one (a campaign)

casual play should give access to all of that. Just do what you think is fun for you

It's weird, it seems CB changed this. If you check the rules for ITS10, you get the descriptions for the individual objectives starting on page 12. There are 20 of them, so you can roll dice to randomly select them.

@n12lv also made an app for this, also for ITS10. you can check here (I haven't tested it myself).
