It's kind of funny, for me it's been the exact opposite experience.
From the onset I was convinced a full HI sectorial was possible without making use of abilities that are designed to bend the system, regardless of what doubters wrote, but I find that the sectorial they delivered was somewhat underwhelming. However, the more I've played with IA the less the underwhelming experience seem accidental.

I dunno, I thought the Matt Ward GK units were pretty cool and fluffy thematic. The fluff in that dex was :hankey:, though.

Maybe I missed it but how?

Given a low tier HI costs ~30 points youd be hard pressed to build a decent army that wasn't just a few good models and a bunch of really cheap supporty things which would not mesh well with vanilla.

In isolation I maybe see it happening. Allowing for most of the new stuff going into vanilla Im struggling to see it.

Zuyongs would probably be 25 if they didn't have the bloat of 2 breaker pistols. Which also means you could have a SMG profile for like 21 points.

Moreover, the conspicuous absence of Shock Immunity on the Zhencha when Dart exists is proof that the bread is buttered a certain way.

Which part is it you want me to explain? How I think a HI-centred sectorial is possible or how my experience of IA has been a consecutive series of let downs?

I'd like to hear your ideas on how to make a HI-centered sectorial, please-and-thank-you! :innocent:

Because my worry long before we started getting teasers was how to make the known HI fit into 300pts. 10 models in 300pts need to average 30pts each, so a 5-strong Zuyong Fireteam needed to run 150pts MAX, and ideally needed to run about 135-140pts to allow for expensive-but-cool models like Daofei, Hac Tao, Yan Huo, etc, along with a couple cheap REMs to drag the overall average cost down.

So the Zuyong needed to drop 2-3pts across the board. Still do, IMO.

This is more-or-less what the 'cheapest possible viable/flexible Zuyong Core team consisted of, pre-IA:

    Invincible Army
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]5
    ZÚYǑNG Combi Rifle + 1 TinBot B (Deflector L2) / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0.5 | 30)
    ZÚYǑNG Boarding Shotgun / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0 | 26)
    ZÚYǑNG MULTI Rifle / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0 | 31)
    ZÚYǑNG HMG / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (1.5 | 35)
ZÚYǑNG (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0 | 28)

    2 SWC | 150 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

Hacking defense, heavy weapon, specialist. Oh, and some weapons range-band and damage flexibility.

That's right at 150pts, and even if you went from Multirifle to a Combi LT, you would still be at 146pts. Still 9pts too expensive to allow an engineer, Weibing FObot, and a hacker.

Yeah, let's NOT abuse CB's points system with SMGs in the Core Team, please!

I don't want to attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity or lack of give-a-shit, but I really didn't like any of the 1W+NWI profiles.

So you want horrible internal balance with only 1 viable mono-build, while 99% is garbage tier trap-units people will laugh you out of the room for spending points for? Weird.

Are we still trying to invoke the bizarre myth of Zuyongs being overcosted? Sorry guys, this is simply a thing I will never agree with the YJ forum on.

Edit: Except for Krit, he can go die under a tractor for all I care.

If they aren't overcosted then there's a shitton of things that are undercosted.

Basically correct. Nobody would be whining about the excellent Zuyong if Fury, SMGs, Chain Rifles, Smoke etc. were more appropriately priced.

    Quite the non-sequitor.

There ARE a lot things that are undercosted or have absurd value. That has nothing to do with the Zuyong. You won't find many 2 wound ARM 3 models in this game with access to BS13 for that pricetag and just quite enough PH to matter, but not enough where it suffers massive point costs (and I simply disregard people's opinion who don't appreciate any levels of Kinematica, I've milked that ability on so many models to waste a staggering amount of orders/time against my opponent to hear any complainst about that ability, call that a 'gitgud'-argument, it matters none to me).

The only thing really near that is the Riot Grrls, who are universally despised and regarded as having a cancerous low cost, and a subject to CB's brain hemorrhage of both decreasing the profile's costs across the board, as well as giving them +1BS/CC for no actual cost. Even then, they are still kept in check by being stuck in a horrible sectorial and have no access to cheap wildcard options to really milk them, certainly not in the nonsense way that Dashat have milked the Zuyong.

Point costs are, by their nature, relative. Things can only be under- or overcosted in relation to each other.

Kuang Shi's are undercosted therefore Zuyongs are overcosted. See how this doesn't make sense?

I mean I'm not going to assume that's what you literally meant but that's how it comes across in your post above, I'd be more fine if you stated that they were overcosted compared to "X" unit and then we could take the discussion from there.

When IA knocked our door, I personally hoped for some Zuyong based variants, like Flamer Zuyong (Insert some cool funny Chinese here), and a CC variant soldier Zuyong for guard duties.

Now IA claims to be having some major holes, Zuyong PTs are considered a trap; could we hope for such specialized Zuyong brothers?

I was joking up there, but the Shang Ji is actually pretty useful. The AHD in particular can threaten direct fire, direct template and Hacking all at the same time, with a passable deterrent CC score and saves.
