I've just had time to read some things about ITS 11, and this Liaison Officer thing caught my attention. It says in these missions (I think there are 3 of them) you need to select one Liaison Officer but: - It has to be a FO - It cannot be a REM - It cannot deploy hidden MO has 3 FO profiles, the TOFOOS, a Combi Rifle FK and the Pathfinder. The Pathfinder is automatically excluded from the candidate list as it is a REM. You're left with two possibilities for a LO: - You deploy the TOFOOS as a marker thus negating one of the biggest advantages of this profile. - Yo go with the 45 points Combi Rifle monster FK, worsening the unit point issues MO already has even more. And using this valuable 45 points in a suboptimal profile. Is this another "less than ideal" situation for MO or am I missing something?
Yes, you are correct in your assumptions. But do remember that the Liason Officer special rules just add an extra point. If you complete the mission normally, you'll still be able to get the full 10 points without a Liason Officer.
Well, there are other sectorials in a worse place. I'd argue the TOFOOS is the one to go for, they are cheap enough that it's not costing you too much to put one out as a marker. But you 100% want to build a list for it.
That's a shame. I really expected I was indeed missing something. It's true it's only a point and that you can still get 10 points without a LO, but let's be real, those 10 points are so hard to get it's almost utopical. Most of the times that extra point will be crucial. I don't think 27 points is cheap enough, most of which are there because of TO and infiltration and will be partially wasted by deploying in marker state. I have yet to test it in game, but hidden deployment plays a big role in the unit value. Mostly because there are many ways to counter a marker and because of the unit squishyness. I can confirm now that this is another fubar situation for MO.
Military Orders ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 1 FATHER-KNIGHT Lieutenant (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Breaker Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 45) 0 SWC | 45 Points Open in Infinity Army Easy-peasy. He's your LT. so you don't want him dead at the end of the game anyway
Not a bad option, but 45 points for a combi rifle when you can have the ML dude for only 4 more points is... odd.
While my post was half sarcastic- this isn't, like, the worst option in the world? It's kind of a waste of points and you're probably better off taking his other options, but a 5 ARM specialist LT is.... okay.
Don't forget that BTS of 9. Anything short of an Assault Hacker won't have much hope of stopping him. The LT Order is also a very useful asset for the Liason Officer when your Orders are limited, since all they have to do is step forward at the end of the game and you'll want as many Regular Orders as possible to complete the standard mission objectives.
MO have a lot of problems just now. At time to create a MO List you must be some kind of military math strategist. - You must choose a Lt, hard fisrt decision. But sure you have an Obvious Lt. Not cool. - You must choose a LI or not, but on LI probably you don't buy a Warcor. 1 extra point less. - You must choose FO. You best FO troop must choose lose her HD or not be the LO. I very disapointed of my MO army, I don't enjoy anymore play it, and I played them since the first Human Sphere.
Don't forget the B2 WIP 16 flash pulse in ARO. I wouldn't use him as ARO piece for the first turn but for the second and third, I see him being pretty strong. From my own experience the FK FO is a good piece, both in solo or part of a FT.
For 2° and 3° Turn I prefer end turn on Supresion Fire on Cover. BS14, BLI5, PB9 on Cover and SF is strong ARO.
Depending how do you define "tougher", a shell game of multiple Camo one of which might be (or not) a LT seems much "tougher" than a FK.
Yeah, that's nice for the couple of Sectorials which can do it. I'm no apologist for the new MO, but this seems like a pretty clear example of catastrophising where it's not justified.
I would still choose the TOFOOS for this role over father Knight. He's almost 20 points cheaper, he starts outside of your's deployment zone, and he has a marker state and TO modifiers to keep him out of trouble. Of course, he cannot start in Hidden mode, but it's still the less bad choice of the two you've.
Well, it's for a FO who you want to survive 'till the end of the game. Who has one of the best setups TO actually survive 'till the end of the game.
It's also a model most likely to be used offensively in the earlier stage of the game, and much more exposed to danger as well. If you really want to have a go at the liaison officier roll, the father knight is a much better choice. And besides, while he is expensive, he is not a lot more expensive than your other lieutenant choices. Sure he is not as good as the santiago spit specialist lieutenant, but hey 1 OP is 1 OP.
MO already has enough limitations and unfavorable conditions in Infinity to also be paying HD to not be able to use this ITS. Besides, I don't know about you, but for me the Sgt TO FO is my best specialist, and that it is a Religious Troop besides having its TO with its HD is what makes it so good, and necessary.
