Yeah, but it makes taking them more interesting as compared to the jan and ghulam links already, which have other stuff such as the namurr and hortlaks and khawarijs to jam in already.
From lore perspective, I dont understand the connection between Will and the jannizares, but anything that makes that fireteam cheaper and deadlier is welcome. Specially un RTF where the Jannizares fireteam is extremely expensive, although I see more viable and lore friendly Will at Qapu. I cannot wait to hide a couple of Hazfa as Will Bill and see the enemy sweat in agony when he see three in the fireteam. HRL hazfas of course xD Enviado desde mi G3121 mediante Tapatalk
I mean, that would be sinking quite a lot of SWC into what's obviously holos. And savvy opponent will probably not expose their secondary link members to HRL template after such a loud declaration. Otherwise Hafzas, unfortunately, not such a great gunfighters that can make your opponent regret their decision to engage by declaring "actually, you're within my optimal range" even if they though they were about to outrange something that shoots up to 16". I just can't quite imagine what attack piece could rely on outranging rifles while being not great against linked ARO at +3 range. Just random thought: shotgun profiles of Hafzas can actually trick an opponent into facing EBS 3 points higher by posing as something only capable to shoot back with pistol or combi at close range. But then you are relying on your opponent investing all those orders to come there and not with something like DTWs which will threaten entire link regardless.
I dont know why he is in link with Jannisaries, really. And yeah, he does nasty special ammo under-16'-aro, which is the only purpose of Zhayedans in RTF for me (setting 2-3 of them up in the midfield is a discomfort for the opponent in aro), but cheaper and with NWI. His haris in QK with Kaplans is nice, together they can cover all ranges.
Tbh Kaplans can already cover 0-16" nicely enough. Unless you're trying to hit something with a visor, ammo is the only Bill's advantage. On the other hand, when you engage something in 0-8" rangeband you will often negate cover naturally, without MML2. But I guess no reason not to take him there if you want unless you require more specific specialists for classified-heavy missions, more ADHL/blitzens or something.
Eh, he’s also got the extra movement, NWI, and higher damage from Fatality. A lot of that is marginal, but added together I think he’s bringing some real advantage if you’re looking to use it.
Well, I was talking about covering ranges specifically. But yeah, he does offer a bit of something in his field. That said, movement may be tricky to use in a link.
I find this to be much less of a problem than many seem to believe. Rarely in Infinity do I find myself charging directly towards something with a full link. That kind of maneuver is begging to eat templates and other devastating AROs. Rather, I often find a unit or two with higher MOV allow my links to be much more flexible in finding appropriate cover, overwatch angles, and unexpected avenues for attack.
I think him being able to link with Jannisaries might point to him being a former Jannisary. Which is cool lore aspect.
I don't think he does much to salvage Zhayedans, tbh. He's still in the same ballpark price-wise, but even though he's better optimized, he is, after all, just a single body. Jans are as okay as oldschool vanilla HI can be, with some link magic going for them for a while... In QK. Their appearance in RTF was frankly excessive. A bit off-topic since I wanted to get this out of my chest for a while already. I feel that viability of less used units in RTF could've been improved if its cores were basically split in two types (since we're doomed to using mishmash links anyway, apparently): "normie link" with naffatuns / zhayedans / fasids and "supersoldier link" with, well, you know. Maaaaybe let ghulams into both since let's be frank, without them the latter would suffer in non-LI games. Then again, in LI those are - and would be - fine as they are since apparently that's what people run anyway. So maybe would even need that. It's funny I'm in bargain stage again. I thought I've been through stage 3 of my RTF grief already.
