So when you know that starting the airbrush at almost 11:00 PM is not the wisest thing to do if you want to go to sleep at a reasonable time, what do you do ?

    Ok I started it.

But what ? It doesn't make sense to just prime a mini in 2 minutes and spend 10 to clean it. So you have to make it worth the cleaning time.

    So wings are mostly done.

No wash yet and the purple/violet parts have to be done during the brush job.

Not sure if everything will tie together, but for now my eyes are not bleeding.
The good news is, if the wings need to be restarted from scratch, the process is quite easy and pretty forgiving so mistakes can easily fixed.

(No hires pic at the moment, upload is pretty slow tonight, I'll update it tomorrow).

Feedback are really required at this stage.

    Edit: pic updated to hires

It looks like you know exactly what you are doing. Those wings will look amazing when they get some violet/purple on them. I'd just echo a previous comment about the rocks. They looks too much like the horns ATM, so I'd maybe darken it a bit, and/or make it just more grey and bland.

Thanks a lot, not exactly what I had in mind but close enough.
I would have go for a more subtle transition but truth to be said, I would need bigger wings.

Two things still to be decided about the base.
Get rid of the yellow and replace by a grey whatever it is dark or light will be more neutral.
Maybe another colour as it is a fantasy world ground can be any colour but I can't think of something that fits.
The second thing is, how should I deal with the extra base? Keep it just black or any plain color? Should Iadd some sand and gravel and expand the scenery? Maybe some crystal?

    My 2cts:
    - Wings are great, hope you'll manage to finish the purple on them soon :D
    - Rocks should just be... rocks. So grey is the best imho. You can then add some dark green touches like lichens to contrast with the drake.
    - I wonder if eyes/mouth should not be orange-yellow-redish to match the spine?
    - Extra base in darkest black. If you wanna add something, then piles of golds would be best imho (covering all the extra base plate, possibly up to half the rock to the highest).

Many thanks, I hope I won't screw them in the next steps (the wash part is a bit worrying).

Grey is slowly making its way but it won't settle my choice yet. The green part is a damn good idea.

Mouth color seemed logical as it match the belly color. Based on this choice, orange yellow eyes seemed weird. Not sure if there is any good or bad choice here as I try to get a bit a each tint in it.
Still, it makes sense to think about it.

I can make it black and see the result before going further. I'm also considering to make it a magic pool (lava lake is a bit too obvious).
The pile of gold is a good idea but:
    - someone already did it on this mini (still a good idea nonetheless)
    - I have no idea how create it with my limited set of skills (and available material)

Please keep comments flowing, it's so helpful.

Magic pool is a great idea too. Nice bonus if you can add some light effects on the rock, like if the pool is bright and emits some light.

Regarding the coins, I would expect it to not be so difficult (but I do not paint/sculpt models myself, so worth what it worth). Any kind of full cylinder that you can easily slice would make a decent job once painted golden I guess.

Never tried OSL so it could be a good opportunity.

If the treasure idea is definitely something fitting a dragon, I'm putting if off as the more I think of it, the more my expectations are growing the more I'm convinced that I won't reach them.

I'm actually thinking that instead of focusing on what to achieve, I should focus on what main color/tint/hue should be used for the base to balance the mini.
Then it will be easy to select what to do.
    - blue -> magic pool
    - green -> magic pool or classic grass
    - red -> lava lake
    - yellow -> NO GO as proven by test
    - gray -> classic stone and maybe some brown mud around
    - brown -> not sure it should be a dominant color -> see above
    - purple -> come on, there's already enough purple here

I'm expecting the color theory wizards* to share their wisdom here.

*in worst case, I still can receive advice from their apprentices.

Poppy Dragon should too. Am I right ?

Valid option but I don't see it fit here.

That's ridiculously easy to make, you don't even need to paint it:

People vary between preferring big and small flakes glitter. I think a mix of both, with a majority of it small should be the best looking compromise.

Edit: Just noticed that the guy from the first video revised it and made a better looking and quite a bit easier to make version:

Your video reference collection is amazing.

It definitely provides some tracks to follow.

like plastic rod in 1.5-2mm diameter. It's too big (2mm diameter is over 10cm at usual mini scales!), but looks good in a pile.

    Rock now blue gray.

I removed the base and wonder if I should put it back.
    Nothing varnished yet.

This is a good place to stop as frankly i'm not sure what i'd add if anything as he looks pretty complete already (maybe those treasure piles? dunno, you'd have to extend the base much further).
In barely related news i had yesterday an airbrushing class at my FLGS. They said "Bring a figure to work on, preferably something bigger than your typical 28mm mini". I 100% blame you for my choice:
I still have much work to do on it and need to practice a lot, but i now get why people like airbrushes.

This burden is mine, there's nothing I can say to deny it.

But then yours is now to share your update with us.

Thanks a lot for your comment.

I guess this has become the unofficial "painting dragons" thread ;).

    I can't validate this statement.
    Neither could I deny it

@Koin-Koin : i think you can stop there.
I like "normal" shape base so I personally might add the base (black) back, but it is not required as the rocks are fine as is too.
