If I went full throttle for Kingdom Death: Monster, then you can be darn sure I'll back the shit out of Defiance. Not only it already pormises to be an enjoyable game (I do love dungeon crawlers), it's based on my favorite game of all time. Now if they could open the option of custom characters it would be swell. I have a team of four Odalisques who would love to play Defiance.
Most of their adventures are (my baterps usually end with them waking up at the medbay in new bodies). But seriously, I do want to try this on solo play and see what wacky adventures I can write up out of it.
Writing stories is fun! There's a reason why most minis I paint all have their own. I kinda want the PanO girl but I don't know if I can justify a ffull purchase of the game since I doubt I'll play it (no one to play with).
Ha, i went full bananas on KD:M too, and barring some disaster, i'll go on Defiance too! I hope they do during the KS some backer voting, maybe a fan favorite hero to include in the game, or some profile that people want to be made a hero of...interactions during KS are always fun
Shouldn't be too hard to find some people interested in a dungeon-crawler type game, those are popular now. Once you get them into the Defiance setting, you can try to get them into Infinity.
And talked to part of the development team. Its a fun game, to me (new to Infinity and haven't played Aristeia) it feels like a hypervitaminated Zombicide. The rules are a lot like Aristeia's, easy to follow and based on the dice symbols. There are a lot of "additional effects" to everything, so it adds flavour to the characters and enemies. IA feels kinda easy to predict but very dangerous, each troop has differences/preferences, scenarios affect some of their behaviour, evil forces can be haded to a player to make things way harder. There is no ARO, except simultaneous hand to hand combat. Characters evolve by acquiring perks-equipment, but can also pile wounds that have very negative effects on the campaign. We played the demo and it took around an hour 30min. Kickstarter date: end of October. Will have unlockable things, but probably not a lot of those will be minis. Basic box: around 90-100€ - 15 minis Deluxe box: around 220-240€ - 50 minis (some of them are represented with cardboard in the basic box). Next heroes to be added: Haqqislam Healer, Aleph (can't remember if he said the role of the Aleph).. https://www.reddit.com/r/InfinityTheGame/comments/d50s8i/so_i_played_defiance_yesterday/ At this price point, can't really see many boardgamers interested in it. But if you are Infinity player, price is okay for mini count. Add on top shipping, and it's quite pricey.
That deluxe box has about the mini count I was expecting in the basic box. That's ~$300 or so... Yeah, not likely to happen.
Phew, whether I'll back it really depends on the miniatures included in the collector's edition. 200+ € is a hefty sum, but if that nets me effectively a Shasvastii force plus a few characters for my other armies, it might be worth it. Maybe I can even split the miniatures with someone who wants to get into Infinity ... Definitely keeping an eye on how the campaign develops and what the CE contains.
I might buy in since it's not like I'll ever have any Tohaa to buy in the future (Unless they stick some Tohaa into Defiance...like a Sakiel with Light Rocket Launcher, or a Ectros with Vulcan Shotgun, or a Taqeul with any loadout, or just anything Tohaa...hell I'd take Sygmaa at this point.)
50 Metal Miniatures for 240$ That is a damn bargain. I mean we are not talking a ten thousand miniiatures plastic box here. I am pretty sure I am in.
I‘ll be in. Damn bargain, game is lots of fun (played demo at IP and love Aristeia anyway) and minis are some of the best in the market. Deluxe all the way
Basic box looks to be about the price of an older Operation:ThingyThing box, with the same amount of models and probably significantly more card than even Wildfire came with, not too bad for a KS. Who am I kidding though, I'm going to go all in, this is the first multiplayer CB game so it'll get significantly more play time than Infinity or Aristeia! in my group.
I find it impossible to decide from the info available at the moment. The blogs are mostly confusing - I guess it’s an issue of language - and don’t tell me anything useful. They actually worry me, as I’m wondering if CB is capable to produce a set of English language rules I can live with. On the other hand, the feedback from people who have tried the game is very positive, which is always a good sign. As for the price, €240 for 50 metal minis CAN be a great bargain. Although I say that mostly in a context where those minis are actually useful for my games of Infinity. If they’re mostly not, I’m not sure how happy I’d be to paint 50 detailed minis just for a boardgame. It’d have to be a VERY good boardgame, one that’ll hit the table often and for a long time. Also, I really hope they’ll think of storage. I guess I’ll just wait until the KS is online and more is available. I just hope CB provides as much details as possible, making the pdf of the rules available, maybe some gameplay videos...
The price per model of the Deluxe Edition seems fine, and you have to consider al the extras. But... why 50 miniatures? - Lets say 8 heroes (one for each non-Tohaa Faction). - 8 NPC's, like Valkyre, Aida or Viktor, and some civils to rescue. - ...and 34 enemies? Isn't that too many enemies? How often will those models see gameplay with just 12 missions?
Just 12 missions in the Core. I suspect that the deluxe edition will also have a bonus missions book.
