Out of 3 Yu Jing players here they're played in nearly every list. CoC, Free Agent, counts as a Specialist, and either a cheap turn 3 SWC gun or DZ Madtraps, both of which compliment his role perfectly as a momentum keeper. There were a ton of players who used them on the forum but it seems like a lot of them abandoned the Yu Jing forum as it has gotten obnoxious.
not really in my zone, but well. He/she can be played if you go fear your leutinent can die ( Sun Tze, Hac Tao, Guijia, lot of linked leutinents in ISS). Just the porifle apart of CoC offers a group of skills that ren't bd but make the Pheasant expenisve. And the porifle isn't that good in every one of this aspects. I'm sure more people should prefer a cheaper CoC like the JSA one that is just and a bit expenisve chearleeder. But hey, is wht we got, and if you need CoC you just pick it, as i said with red fury one i had soem succes and most of the times CoC just help me to go more sure with my Hac Tao. Refering to the original topic, the phesant if far better in 10 orders list, becuse yuo can go full agressive link if you want celestials or Wu Mings with leutinent in.
I've only played vanilla and I use the red fury in about half of my lists. It is a nice back line piece for the early game, able shoot stabby DZ raiders and stab shooty ones. It is a decent attack piece and specialist. I do find it expensive, but I don't mind paying for flexibility. Mad traps guy could be interesting, but Xi and a monk do more for less. Shotty guy having grenades is daft.
I've found some success in using the red fury. I'd tried the boarding shotgun but the reality is 29 points is a lot to be sitting around doing nothing. So for the extra 6 points and 1 SWC, which is often 0.5 because then Lts I take get SWC discounts (dao fei, zuyong). Good points i've found is the free agent and shock ammo of the red fury + being a specialist. I think people really underrate that fact. So often I'm using free agent to put the agent into the main group (for free, which is key because I use up my command tokens frequently before 3rd turn), the red fury can then put down pesky dogged or NWI troops in your way and then you can cap some clinch objectives. Normally, with the extra order for being the Lt because my aggressive Lt is probably dead. If i'm not using the pheasant than I'm probably winning the game anyway. Shes also really good as a backline defense, as she sweeps up the dogged impetuous troops who might have pushed deep, as they often rely on that extra wound to be a nuisance.
I really agree with what you've said above. I feel your use of the unit is great for plugging holes in a gameplan by being able to do a lot of different roles fairly well. In particular, the combination of Chain of Command + decent gunfighter means you can do whatever's left to be done on Turn 3 while keeping your gameplan very stable in the opening turns. This use of the unit actually reminds me a lot of the Unknown Ranger, a unit with similar pros/cons who I also believe is undervalued for his ability to keep a gameplan cohesive in a multitude of ways, then spring into action on Turn 3.
I regularly take the red fury in a Bao core link because the Bao don't have any specialist options and a 5 man core with good guns and the ability to complete objectives is gold. If I'm not taking a Bao core I'll often try to squeeze in a Bao Harris as a back up link. Robert
To put it very bluntly. Skornegy is anti synergy between units/ models, etc that should be synergistic. Hard to give examples without using Warmahordes units, i.e Skorne faction units. However. For those who may not know. A lot of that skornegy was fixed.
If it's not self evident to you it's not a problem for you. I get nothing from convincing you to find something distasteful.
I find the Bao haris / red fury option is pretty solid. It probably isn't your primary offensive link, but if you run a bao haris, kuang shi core and a rui shi you have a lot of smoke shooting potential across the table. Burst 5 shooting is never a joke, I've had a pheasant double crit a swiss guard popping out to surprise it with a missile launcher. Something like this is the start of a pretty solid list, and easy to take up to 20 orders. It's worth noting how nasty that x-visor light shotgun BAO can be, in cover and shooting out of smoke. In the haris he can shoot 3 templates at BS 12 at targets out to 24", which would put a visorless target with a combi rifle at -12 to hit, deny cover and snag models behind it. In hunting party all pheasants get a glue gun, which pairs pretty well with the x-visor variants. X-visor, Adhesive launcher, E/Mitter & madtraps is an immobilisation guru! The shotgun and stun grenade pheasant is also pretty handy in that mission and a little cheaper, though sadly he lacks the x-visor. I find it endlessly frustrating that the hacker and sniper pheasants lack Chain of Command. The profiles that you would naturally want to keep in your back field can't take over in an emergency. The ones that cry out to close with the enemy bring it, but will either be in harms way or not making full use of their abilities.
Honestly, the Pheasant shotgun is a model everyone has and no one uses. CB should compare how many IS starters they have sold vs how often the Pheasant BSG shows up. Every time I go to make this list, the Bao / Pheasant haris become a Zhanying / Hsien HMG haris and I never look back.
I find Zhanying are *extremely* spendy for how vulnerable they are. Also, the hsien often ends up being your LT, and if you play him aggressively or move him up table and he eats a crit it can be very risky putting him in further harm's way. For how expensive they are they want to be primary gunfighters and probably held in your DZ. The bao haris has the benefit of being a backup team, it's pretty order efficient, is pretty punchy especially when supported by smoke, and contains a specialist. It doesn't matter if you commit it to a fight if you haven't lost your primary lieutenant. The low cost helps keep your orders up across the list - it's pretty straightforward to get it into a 19 or 20 order list.
By way of example... 19 orders with a bao haris, rui shi, su-jian and ninja killer hacker, with some CoC redundancy. Deployment. Deployment. Deployment. You don't deploy like idiot, your Kuang Shi survive to die in a blaze of glory. If your tables dont have any spots where your kuang shi can run 10cm without exploding maybe you should go make some papercraft terrain. Or buy 3 TR remotes. Or go play PanO.
I have to say it is intriguing to see how different the opinions on Pheasant and Baos are apparently (I'm mentioning Baos because most people liking the Pheasant seem to like Baos as well). I guess I am having problems with the Pheasant because I don't care much for the Baos either....I always feel like the Hsien or Rui Shi is so far superior to the Bao, that using them feels like gimping myself on purpose, which is fine every now and then of course, but not in like half my lists, like some here seem to use their Baos/Pheasants. I wonder, do those of you who regularly use Baos and Pheasants have/use Hsien/Rui Shi? And if yes, why do you prefer the Baos with Pheasant over say Rui Shi's and cheaper Pheasant, or Hsien and Pheasant?
Yeah ty xd. Just saying i feel kiang shi farm list out of the core options, for me, feeled fragile. Evan with the core and a good deploy on turn one you will have to waste command tokens to coordinate all kuang shis back to safe zone. Don't know every one with his opinion, but i think all Yu Jing has a kuang shi adiction xd. And there are other not that bad options, like baos or Wu mings, being ignored in favor of kuang shis ( one of the few cases of infinity general meta). And yes after playing Onix half a year i can say it can be funny infinity without warband spam
I guess this would belong to a different topic, but since I just wrote a Tactica Article about Kuang Shi I feel like quickly dropping my 2 cents :-P I think the good thing about Kuang Shi is that they don't HAVE to survive forever for you to get your worth out of them, usually I deploy them in a save position on turn 1, where they both protect my deployment zone, and stay relatively save for their impetuous move. After turn 1 they already did a good chunk of their job, which is providing my murder machines with orders...and most of the murdering happens on turn 1-2 usually for me.. If my opponent didn't kill too many of my Kuang Shi (which would require him to move to whatever save position they went to in turn 1), they are already providing their orders in turn 2 as well, even should they die during their impetuous movement...so even more job well done for them there. And to top that off...the Kuang Shi are so much more than cheerleaders...they are linkteam killers, infiltrator killers, annoying ARO pieces, zone takers and defenders, on demand repeaters, and they do all that while making me feel good about it for reforming some damned criminals! :-P So the more they walk towards my opponent, the better it is for me usually! Anyways, just my opinion of course. For my full rant on them you'll have to wait until I finished writing my Tactica :-P
