When does your opponent have to share their army list?

    Hey everyone,

As of late when playing at my flgs, the last couple of games I've gotten to deploy second. I feel that I'm always getting smashed by their held back model. The last two times were a nehab and hulang. I would've deployed differently knowing that they were a possible threat. So my question is when does you opponent have to share all their open info of their army?

Open information is yours to have only after it has been deployed on the table, so this means after the "reserve" model has been deployed. The whole point of the held-back model is for this type of shenaniganery and it is through experience that you learn to anticipate troops based on points missing and opponent's preferences.

Open information only kicks in when the model is on the table. Courtesy lists are a handy summary of all the open information that would exist at the end of deployment, once all troopers not in a marker state or off the board have been deployed.

Each time a mini is on table, your opponent must declare all the public info about it. For equipment and markers, it's the same. So, the whole courtesy list can only be given once the reserve model is on the table. It's up to you to anticipate any surprise that could be the reserve model.

I had a lot fun to drop my Squalo as reserve model back in my early time. It did its little effect when my opponent discovered how close together his models were and how terrible it will be against my Heavy Grenade Launcher.

    From the FAQ:

When do I have to give my opponent my Courtesy List?
You can show your Courtesy List at the end of the
    Deployment phase.

So the complete Open Informations of the army are only available after deployment. The Open Informations of specific models have to be shared as soon as the model hits the table.

So with all this being said, what is your general advice on hold backs? What do you personally like to do?

If I'm going second I'll hold back a reactive piece to try and foil my opponent's reserve. This can vary depending on faction but can be an inferior infiltrating Grunt, a Minelayer, a TO Sniper/missile launcher, totes remote etc.

If I'm going first the reserve is often my primary attack piece, though the inferior infiltrating Grunt is still an option a lot of the time.

If I'm deploying first, either hold back a problem solver (something that can effectively deal with ARO pieces) or try to confuse the deployment of a key piece (such as Hac Tao, Mowang or Haidao) or the place for a specific unusual counter model.
If I'm deploying second I try and imagine or predict the wworst possible counter to my list and keep a counter to it in reserve (be it a TR HMG, MSV2 sniper or a madtrap dude)

I either hold back my strongest solo shooting piece (if I am going first) to allow myself better angles to shoot from, or my most disruptive piece if I'm going second (TO ARO, Impersonator, link member with the MSR when I already have 5 linkable pieces down, etc).
