Looking at it, we haven't seen hide nor hair of the new Montesa sculpt or concept art, and it seems to me that a BS 14 Spitfire in the midfield (That's a bit cheaper than a KotHS)would solve a few of MO's problems right now. What do y'all think? (Also looking at it and the bike 112 I'm kind of confused as to who thinks bike-mounted Paramedics are so good.)
Good question. I think the only reason it exists in its current format, besides rule-of-cool, is to provide playable CC anti-materiel options. However, if Daed Falls scenarios are any indicator, missions like Looting & Sabotage might open up a bit (Daed Falls has a mission just like L&S, but all Specialists and the Datatracker stand-in get d-charges for free.) So if they alter missions in Season 11 so they're less restrictive, then the Montessa's "mobile anti-materiel" role is less necessary. I wouldn't mind getting the old version back, though I never had much luck with it in Acon
True. However, with how recent the change is, plus the need to balance it across all three of the Montessa’s homes would seem to make it unlikely,
Seems like unnecessary redundancy to m , I'd rather see the KotHS get an LRL profile and a points cost reduction.
Assuming the CC ability remains indifferent, I could probably still be convinced to run a 2-Wound Spitfire + Chain Colt wielder in VIRD. It opens up some decent aggression options, especially since VIRD's 1-Wound midfielders have a pretty strong aversion to antipersonnel mines. Acon would like it too. Not sure it does much for Vanilla or MO though. Edit: Ninjad.
Since the Sepulchre knights are now the LGL midboard option so I strongly doubt they will bring back the old profile. I would love a spitfire on the bike, however, if its SWC 2 in cost then there are far better platforms for such an expensive SWC cost.
They haven't exactly updated the KotHS minis for the change, so profile tweaks aren't out of the question.
I don't see any reason they would walk back the Montessa change. It's a unique niche for a unit, and there's nothing wrong with the concept of a short range assault HI knight on a bike. I think a bunch of knight profiles could stand to be tuned and tweaked for better role differentiation and whatnot, but that wasn't your initial question.
I actually kinda hope they dont, the Santiago really does the Job Montessa used to do (in vanilla and MO) better than the Montessa ever did, its tougher and its marker state is well worth the loss of 4' deployyment, especially as it makes the LGL almost unstopable as a reserve Alpha strike given you have a 1/3 chance of guessing the right marker to drop your reserve hacker on. As to the montessa, I hope it gets some work, but the concept really is unique not just to PanO but to the game, a 2W Bike really could be baller and is a great idea with just the current execution being what lets it down
Personally I hope Montesa will keep the bike. The only thing I'd like to see is that Spitfire loadout, which would make SAA starter mini more useful. What exactly would the rollback achieve?
Other people have said it but I'm going to say it too - differences between knight orders is good and I want more of it. The Sepulcher knights cover the "starting upfield" niche (even if I would like them to get some buffs), so I don't see the need for the montesa to do it too.
I could see the Montessa motorcycle being an exclusive mini at some point – bundled with a book, an art book, ect ect. If anything I hope they create a greater difference between knight orders. pull those Santiagos, Teutons, and Hospitallers even further apart.
There was a point in time that I would run a Montesa Paramedic in every single VIRD list. I find I bring him far less frequently in MO.
The new Montesa is solid. I definitely wish he had gotten to keep the Spitfire, but I feel like so many people overlook the utility of this unit. Many of my opponents overextend while trying to take out the Kamau Sniper and the Montesa is so great at punishing alpha strikes that have gotten tied up by your Zulu Cobras and Helots. Like many of Varuna's tools, it's definitely an opportunity piece. You have to look for the perfect opening to take advantage of your template weapons. It's also one of the fastest specialists we have, and one of the most reliable ways that VIRD can complete the Looting and Sabotaging mission and Predator classifieds.
My old mech-deployed Montessa got a lot of work done for me in Acon. I’m still tuning my play to get the bike working without much luck, thus far. I don’t see them changing it back. At least I certainly hope they don’t invalidate my conversion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It had literally no reason to be put into VIRD. They shoved it in there because they scrapped SAA and they wanted to sell the model(lol) whenever it came out. And cause I guess PanO needed a bike. Shame they didn't just do the smart thing and run Auxilia as the bike unit.
