so it’s pretty quiet here so I have been thinking about doing a tactica of sorts at some point for TAK as I a pretty well versed in playing them. Along with the other sectorials I know this exists but it’s good to get discussions going but first I would like to start with a lighter topic so here goes.

So what is a unit you enjoy to play but everybody thinks is bad or underperforming. And why do you like it ? How do you use it to make it work ?

Mine is the rifle Spetsnaz not the worst of choices but def niche.
I like to use him for lieutenant hunting as I gave a good grasp of what lt options are in what armies. He also gives TAK some reach which I feel they lack compared to vanilla. With his grenades He can reach people in hard places and his deadly gun fighting skills allow him to murder most cheerleaders.

I prefer him over the shotgun as I feel the rifle has more use for me and usually a pistol from cover is enough for when they are within 8.
I try to put him in a pretty big pool of around 7 counting his order as I tend to run bigger TAK lists.

Now you go let’s wake this forum up !

I'm actually a big fan of Minutemen - I think that Marauders, though they are just so much better in so many ways (FDL2 thanks to ITS, Dogged, and Stealth before you account for Haris team and HFTs), can't quite match the firepower that Minutemen can bring to the table. There's nothing that quite matches a fully linked AP HMG, and B3 active turn LFTs are pretty nice. I'm really a big fan, too, of the AP rifle profile, pushing that over 16" range band with the X-Visor to get some nice shots off. And then there's the boarding shotgun, with the ability to fairly reliable spec-fire grenades in a full link and provides the decision in ARO to dodge flamethrowers or eat unopposed shotgun shells if deployed correctly.

For USARF the Foxtrot with Boarding shotgun is a personal favorite of mine, the AVA is probably better spent on specialists and for something so squishy you generally prefer a rifle to stick behind cover but sometimes you just need to take a risk and have a lady with a shotgun show up and blast somebody in half. Minutemen are probably a close second, i prefer the range they offer over Marauders and I'm a sucker for the LT SWC discount on an AP HMG.

for my beloved FRRM its the Loup-Garou that are under appreciated, people aren't always behind the idea of a LI link whose only purpose is to make whatever is in front of them go away, but if that murder train gets rolling cho-cho bitches.

TAK, I haven't played that much but I'm looking forward to getting the Ratnik to make friends, haven't really looked around here enough to tell whether or not they're considered good but i'm a sucker for S5 beat sticks.

CHA, Mormaers see prior comments on beat stick units and they just look so cool, also T2 is mean and i love it.

Mormaer T2 rifle with X-visor in suppression may not be as hard to remove as a Vet Kazak, but he sure is still a nasty beat stick. Hitting on 10s/13s out to 24" in suppression is pretty good with a T2 weapon.

I know they're awful, but I just love Moblots. So many weird profiles, like the rare Engineer or the Infiltrators with E/Maulers and good AP options. Even a profile with Mimetism! They're a lot of fun to make links with, especially mixed with Metros or the Alguacile Hacker. Only problem is there's no normal HMG sculpt, otherwise I'd bring them every game with my MRRF. The Engi is especially nice to bring alongside an Anaconda, since it has respectable combat ability and can fight its way up to a stuck TAG reliably.

I got another one from the French.
The zouaves the forward observer and sniper I love the models. The sniper is the most useful of the two he can abuse some good angles with the sniper.

I don't know if anyone would argue that the Zouave, especially the sniper, is a bad unit so kinda shooting this threads premise in the foot a little bit there:wink:. the HMG though i never had much luck with using, I could never get the placement right maybe i should try them out some more once i get tired of Spiral and TAK...

I find the placement for the Zouave HMG, really forgiving since he can get cover anywhere you place him. He can sit in the open with some nasty fields of view and still be very safe. The most important thing for them is if you have first or second turn. First turn is critical for them so you can toss them into suppression unopposed for that sweet -9 mod.

I definitely enjoy the minuteman x-visor profile. I bring it in USARF and Vanilla. Drop it in suppression and it makes a decent roadblock.
The foxtrot shotgun comes along an awful lot, especially in non specialist missions.

I really like double Antipode Assault Pack in TAK. Extremely durable for their point cost and highly mobile.

The trick is to never give them a regular order unless you can kill something very expensive.

You know, I hadn't thought about it but you're right. They can cover 12" in their irregular order, pretty much ignoring intervening terrain, and people tend to pour an excessive amount of attention into removing them I've noticed.

It’s all about order efficiency. Antipode Assault Pack (and controller) is a weird unit because it’s not very good at generating (regular) orders, using them to kill enemy or pushing buttons. You also need a separate killer model to use the controller orders.
But boy are they difficult to remove efficiently once they get upfield.

Zuoave sapper is ace, used them all the time when I played french. Sapper is such a good rule for cheap snipers. Opens up a lot of deployment options and gives a lot of survivability on a throw-away piece
