My God, we've been doing IRL mine clearing wrong this entire time! Turns out South Park was right all along!

Can't the mine decide the point in which it hits you? Like a BS attack may decide to hit you before you reach cover or B2B with another trooper?

This would work, you'd need to use both move skills but it's doable.

A mine, just like any template attack, has to place it's template on declaration/triggering - for this reason you need to move into base to base with the second short skill so that you know where the template is. And just like all template attacks, the template will touch anyone moving through it between start of order and until resolution - it's not just one specific point!

    This.

You are not engaged for the full duration of the order (like Camo revealing)

That's why you need to make sure you're Engaged while still touching the template location.
Tricky but often doable. Just be very careful so as not to stand partly inside the space where the mine used to be, as this would have unfortunate consequences for your final position and will cause you to fail to enter Engaged state.
