The "spend your money elsewhere" thing is a legitimate argument. Without being 'angry' or even conscious of it at all until reading this thread, I've noticed that other games have been attracting my interest where as a year ago (and most of a decade before that) it was all infinity all the time. Between what I consider to be a poor management of the mothballing of my favourite army, releases I'm not interested in, and some... interesting developments in the game meta, I'm starting to wonder if instead of just buying infinity I jump into some other game which seems fresher.

I think Tohaa is in a perfectly fine state as an effective faction. As for their future, I'm pretty unimpressed with this slinking around in the background, quietly removing Tohaa references and derping on about "SKU bloat" which reduces my respect for the company. I'd rather they just out and out said they got Frenched.

Spiral doesn't excite me at all really. Now that the release hype has died down, I'm rather uninterested at what they bring to the table, and they have little more than a superficial resemblance to the Tohaa faction I know. If you like jammers and helots maybe they'll float your boat, but for now I'm playing other factions.

Isn't that exactly what they did though? With the release of Spiral Corps they also announced that all non-Spiral Tohaa were going out of producion.

    2. Yeah, it's CB's whole "We can't imagine why you want figures that are in production. Aren't your current models good enough?" phase.

Really, I think the thing to do would be for all of the players of factions that have discontinued models to just start going to conventions using bases with cardboard standees of the models (along with a collection of CB models to use as proxies). Get some good "You refuse to sell me these models" representation at Interplanetario or something.

Wow, that would get their attention. It might get backlash though - imagine if the response was to remove the factions from the game? Terrible for them and for players.

Did they? I thought they just released a "discontinued SKU" list.

When Bostria announced the discontinued Tohaa models he explicitly said it was because they weren't in Spiral/Triumvirate, it's in the video from March 12th (Spiral Corps Army Pack & Beyond)

I think, even with the new spiral corps profils, the discontinued SKU just cut out any further dynamic of background lore in next books, new stories or anecdotes.. it's widly playable, enjoyable but the lack of attention and the certitude not to move forward in the background is like we were trying to learn to speak a dead langage ... What make people want to play a faction is not only the game but the background too..
I've been playing them for 4-5 years now as a main faction, i don't feel very confident in the new spiral corps (tohaa specificity vanished : triad are just like some mixed core or haris in other factions, there are very few symbiont armors and they cost too much to make several triad, no more makaul or cheap smoke)... From an objectives base faction they became a very defensive faction with a totally different taste which is not really what I like to play..
Conclusion I'll focus on my second faction which is really nice too and try to make something out of it for friendly games and tournaments.

I expect it is a dry spell for the faction. Army wise, Tohaa are in a similar place to where Shas were until recently, (though with more up to date unit rules). The Tohaa are not being written out of the game, they are just in a corner for a minute, with the focus being on the Triumverate in the Human Sphere.
The unfortunate thing is that Tohaa is its own faction, so while some cool new things came out with Spiral, the discontinuation of the SKUs leaves us it a weird place, especially in terms of growing new players. It would be similar to the all SKU's of another vanilla faction being discontinued, except for a single Sectorial.

As for getting 'Frenched' I think Tohaa SKUs had a much grander, (and more significant to the Infinity background), send off with Daedalus' Fall than the French received with their quick campaign release. The background for the diminished battle presence of the French is that 3 planes, (albeit large planes), were shot down. Tohaa had all of their planetary systems closed off from the Human Sphere, (by shady agents of the Triumverate).

Tohaa SKU were discontinued so dont think anything new will come out for Tohaa anytime soon. Spiral Corps is a NA2 so wont get much new stuff either. The best I hope for is a mini for the greif. We are in a good place but I doubt we will get anything new anytime soon

It bothers me especially that CB announced what would be the discontinuation of Tohaa as "the Tohaa year". It seems to me that this is not just cowardly, also playing with the hopes of the players.

If you think you should leave a faction for whatever reason and you're going to do it, you can explain it ... but do not try to sell it to us as something positive.

That said, I think that leaving such a recent faction and getting on the wave of "new boxes, new sectoral and new factions" all the time is a serious mistake. And in my area, at least, people begin to be saturated with so many releases.

He never actually said that, it is the Furor Teutonicus video where he talks about O-12 but he's very much "If we do it, we'll do it like this"

I really don't mind the story they are telling with the Tohaa currently. I like the whole good guy Tohaa have a dark faction hidden in their ranks. I like that they made it an NA2 army to separate it from the Tohaa army. This is interesting stuff for the story. I also don't have a problem with them discontinuing older Tohaa units. Some of them could use an update as they are a little tricky to put together. (Looking at you Gao-Tarsos.)

What I do have a problem with is them mothballing Tohaa as an army on the store shelves. They could have trimmed back on some of the SKUs and just come out with a new Starter for Tohaa and repackaged the Sukeuls as a double blister. Those two things alone with what is being kept for Spiral Corps would have kept Tohaa alive in the stores. This would have given us a place for a Taqeul to be added, but as of now I think we are all suspecting we will never see one produced.

This could all be some grand story where the Combined Army are going to bring a ton of pain to the Human Sphere. After a few years before the Human forces are about to break, the Tohaa could make their return to aid the humans giving us a new sectorial and new life. That is a positive outlook on the future. Unfortunately I think it's more of CB working themselves into a corner with the Tohaa game mechanics and deciding to cut their losses by tossing out the Tohaa for good, giving us a parting gift with the Spiral Corps.

Tohaa might be back in the future. CB has stated that disc. factions will return in a "cyclical fashion", and Daedelus' fall was supposedly a plot point in the making from the beginning. We also could see more Tohaa in the C.A, which I would strongly approve of. If they're releasing random N2 factions all willy nilly, and one recurring theme seems to be faction+faction, it would be pretty easy for them to create a CA/Tohaa force in the same vein as a sectorial.

Thanks for pointing that out. I don't like Tohaa being shelved, but I'm also not looking for reasons to hate on CB. If they were more up front about this then I realized then its easier to be less upset by it.

This is what I think gets most people worried. If CB had good news, why wouldn't they just share it so people could feel a bit more comfortable? Them saying nothing worries me because it's easier to assume that's what they would do if Tohaa is being retired permanently than if it is just being slowed down for a bit.

Is there actually always an official statement were they tell us if an army gets discontinued? I remember one for the french but up to this day i only found out about Acon retiring from my prefered retailers.

Was there a statement for QK? Where is this stuff communicated because i tend to miss it.

I believe they typically get posted to the main homepage with an accompanying blog post? Its been abit so I can't recall off the top of my head but I seem to recall one for French, Acon and QK at the very least.

You know it's over when they give you the going-away mission pack. Tohaa doesn't have one yet, so we might be safe.

Or you are even worse off than the french. You didn't even get the mission pack.

As someone who has been looking to get into Tohaa for awhile now, this situation may not deter me from continuing down the artichoke path but it is disconcerting. I've had a time searching and finally tracking down a Gorgos pilot for Tohaa/Spiral use. Not to mention looking around for the few older sculpts I personally like. Since I'm a converter by heart in this hobby it won't be a problem for me to "build/kitbash" my own versions of "retired" units but it still doesn't sit well with me at the amount of good sculpts that are still going away. I wish I could find a reasonable priced Gorgos T.A.G. as its one of the best T.A.G. models in looks at least in my personal view.

This might have been asked on here before but how are you guys and gals coming along with "finishing" off the last bits of your Tohaa collections before the non-Spiral stuff is going, going, gone? Have you gotten everything you'd use in your listbuilding? Are any of you determined to finish painting your force and has this event given you any ideas for your Tohaa that you wouldn't have thought of before? Such as personal lore for your band of Artichokes, color scheme, or base design/terrain?
