When I set out to write this post, I was planning to rake CB over the coals for their dumb marketing strategies. I, like many others it seems, had a good recollection that @Bostria said o-12 was not coming in 2019. Why in the world would they choose to answer that question at all, let alone in that way if they were planning an o-12 release? So I went find to the video. At the 14:15 mark of the Furor teutonicus video, he answers the question about o-12. He is cagey like usual, and gives the impression that it is a long way off. He said it's in the agenda as something that will happen at some point, it is not an NA2, he said if they make it there won't be a grab bag from other armies. If it happens is repeated a lot, but he never said anything about it not happening. So... Now I am in the awkward position of saying well done for convincing me that o-12 was way off in the future? Whatever, thought it was worth pointing out that he never said no o-12 this year, so we should probably throttle back a bit on this particular instance of "Bostria Lied!"
I did the same thing yesterday. It's probably worth noting that in the videos his answers will be written with input from Belen, Gutier, HellLois, Koni, Bran, etc, rather than at an in person seminar where he's coming up with answers on the spot. Even at Gen Con last year they sent Belen along to babysit him!
To be honest, even if he DID say it wasn't this year, it wouldn't be the first time such a "lie" happens. Beside, I think it's a good thing to surrise your customers. "Hey, we said no O-12 this year but.... Here's O-12! Enjoy!" It's not exactly like saying something will happen and then it doesn't.
Agreed, this seems like an extremely harmless white lie to build excitement and maintain suspense. Imagine how boring things would be if they released all the release info they have the next 2 years. That means 2 years of no suspense, and if something changes and they have to alter their schedule, they get attacked for lying. Bostria, keep up the sly work!
Yeah, whenever my Niece asks me what I got her for Christmas, I say "nothing." It's not true, i'm just preserving the surprise. Something like this shouldn't be a big deal.
Or. Just possibly. It wasn't a lie. That the development schedule or whatnot put it on the fast track. You know, like they finalized hat designs.
I thought he mentionned it was not in the work in the Adepticon 2019 live Q&A? The same one that they announced Defiance.
It would have taken a miracle for this to have gotten from "not in the cards" for this year around Adepticon to "releasing a product in September" even with a large company that doesn't have one or two people effectively able to veto things.
If the answer was, "I cannot discuss products that may or may not be in development" would it have been better? CB Cagey in that they do not want to over commit and then walk it back, so they tend towards saying no vs no comment. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
I think this is reasonable. Similar example: I asked early in 2019 if Helot sculpts were going to be released this year, and the answer was "no indication they're coming this year." I asked again last month, and now it seems like we might see them in 2019 after all. Is this a lie? Eh, probably not. Things change or evolve. If you as a question in Jan or Feb, it's possible that a November or December release simply hasn't been determined yet. There's quite a lot of time in between, and sometimes unforeseen delays (hell, a staff member getting sick or having a child) can result in dramatic changes to a product release schedule.
There’s no way they did not already have the summer battle box planned out. I will say that since this was a scripted Q&A rather than a live one, it’s a valid argument that they should have just not chosen to talk about O-12 at all. I’m not specifically upset about how they ran this one, though; it did do a good job of keeping the new faction as a surprise. I’ve seen some commentary to the effect that what he said was not technically a lie since he said that we weren’t getting an O-12 sectorial this year, but I haven’t rewatched the video to confirm. Even if that’s true, the statements were still misleading.
They advise as much of their plan as it exists at the moment a presentation is given as they want to, no more, no less. They leave things out both intentionally and because circumstances change. We'll never have the "right" amount of information.
...Or others at CB lie to Bostria. He's such a gentle, trusting soul. They may take wicked delight in deceiving him and then watching him blithely sow those lies among the fanatic peat. Or...plans change. Some of what CB does comes across as capricious. Also: most of you are of insufficient seniority to speak directly of Bostria, or to Bostria, or even use his name. You must refer to him as Su señoría or just Su ilustrísima. Stop being disrespectful.
"It's currently not planned for the near future" or "I can't comment on something like that". All it would have taken. And "bUt iT's nOt a SeCtoRiAL!" is not a valid argument either.
I prefer "The man who dropped his hot dog in my shopping bag" Which I feel I must clarify is not a euphemism.
