Hey, Asked this a while back on the old forum, but never got a reply. Figured I'd cross post it over here before it gets locked, since I'm still curious as to what the "official answer" is. Comms Centre and Transmission Matrix both have a classified and Hostile HVT / Designated Target. How does one achieve objectives that require you to be in base to base with the HVT when it's classed as an Enemy Model? If I'm base to base with an enemy model, I'm Engaged and can only make CC Attacks and attacks which have special allowances. Kidnapping and Innoculate seem impossible in these two missions as neither "Sychronise Civilian" nor Innoculate state that you can perform them while Engaged. Even the newest FAQ just allows you to step 1mm away after knocking them Unconscious - which is too far away to achieve your objectives. At least Synchronise Civilian states you can perform it on a Hostile Civilian at a -3, but still lacks the ability to do so while Engaged. Does this penalty somehow also grant the ability to do it while Engaged? If so, does Innoculate have a similar penalty, or are you just hosed if you draw it in Comms Centre or Transmission Matrix? An additional hiccup to Synchronise Civilain is that Designated Targets are, by RAW, not actually Civilians at all. So the -3 doesn't even really apply, because you can't actually target them? A little confusing, this whole thing. At least it's just 2 specific classifieds, on 2 specific missions. Loving the rest of Season 9 so far! Cheers in advance for any answer.
Kidnapping I think does not require you to be in B2B, but at worst... Medevac XD As for innoculation, logic dictates you "attack him" with that, while he hits you... so IMM him (stun, glue...) or render him KO, then Innoculate as much as you want. Also, remember you can always leave one of your models in ZoC of the enemy HVT in order to "count as" one secondary objective.
Cool, I can deal with that. I wish the wording in the document was slightly better because where it says "enemy troopers instead of civilians" confused everyone I asked. Maybe a notation that they're "Enemy Civilians instead of Neutral Civilians" or something? You know, just if the document gets another update in future. Still, one problem solved - we were simply removing the HVT specific cards from the deck for those two missions the way a couple other missions tell you to, because they were causing issues. Any ruling for Inoculation? Should we just give it a "Can be used while Engaged" addendum?
Ok. Should we take it as granted that the -3 for Hostile Civilians grants the ability to use it while in the Engaged state? Any statement on how we should handle Inoculation?
Honestly my issue is as much with the ambiguous language choice as it is that these two cards cap you at 9 CPs and deprive you of a potentially critical tie-breaker because one is incompatible with the mission objectives (kill and kidnap HVT), and the other currently can't be used.
To be fair, it is natural to take that sentence as meaning that the HVT is completely and utterly stripped of being a civilian especially since you had to remove emphasis from civilian to make a point. I hope they amend it to something similar to "enemy trooper that does not lock other troopers in the Engaged state" - or that they tell us to remove the HVT-BTB interaction classifieds completely.
It seems that RAW you can't use those actions while engaged with a DT... obviously, however, you'd be crazy to play it that way. Needs clarification from the rules team. Are those rolls FtF vs., say, the DT's dodge or stun pistol?
