I took my IA to a local three game tournament yesterday and thought I might share a little tourney report. We decided to go all or nothing on objective rooms, so we played the following missions:
    The Armory,
    Engineering Deck,
    Firefight

Although I think the Zuyong Core team is not the strongest in IA I just had to just field them because I just like the models. We had an infinite high building in the middle that would help alot against hidden missile launchers. I also wanted to have two Zhenchas for the mines and the buttons on engineering deck. Doctor and Engineer were there to keep the big link going. This left room for the ordinary Daoying LT2, but the list did not have any remotes or jump troopers in it to buff, so I felt like its a fair pick.

With Firefight on the mission list, I also had to take a list with a reasonable number of Liu Xing with the extra +3 on the jump. Daoying sniper and hacker together with the Zhenchas means 4 camo markers to hide my LT very well. The LuDuan was disguised as an EVO hacking device to draw attention. The list is rounded out by the ridiculous HaiDao MSV2 sniper core team.

I lost the LT roll. My opponent took table side and deployment, so I took the first turn. I decided to do infiltration rolls on both Zhenchas. I failed the first, but succeeding on the important second roll, where I could see my enemy deployment.

    Round1:
I started the game with a Zhencha right next to a Ghulam, a baggage bot and a nasty Naffatun with his light flamer. Five turns later, I lost a wound, but finally that Ghulam failed its armor roll. My assault had a slow start, but thanks to climbing plus it only took two more orders to kill a second Ghulam that was prone alone on a building right next to me. I decided to stop the attack there and went back into camo state, leaving me with six orders in my linkteam to attack a Daylami with the HMG TA Zuyong, but it tanked the shots and went prone. I reshuffled the team and attacked the flashpulse bot, but got a crit and the HMG was blinded, ending my turn with the hope I got the right Ghulam to sent my opponent into loss of LT.
    -
He was indeed in LoLT which made his turn rather cumbersome. He tried to throw pitchers against the armory walls, but failed both rolls. More important for me, he did not kill anything and his Ghazies could not be used efficiently.

    Round2:
In my second turn, I realized that I made a big mistake with my linkteam (again). The Zuyong missile launcher was in LoS of his Daylami and I could not activate him without kicking the HMG out of the link! I was too spread out when Tai Sheng was the linkleader last turn!
Lucky for me, I still had the Zhencha alive, who shot his way through the baggage bot and the Naffatun, tanking the flamethrower. With that achieved, the way was clear to shoot the Daylami in the back, freeing my linkteam. The Zhencha even killed the Djanbazan sniper on his way to the Daylami. With the linkteam free again, I moved them in the middle of the board to just get one Zuyong member in the objective room.
    -
My opponent dropped a Ragik to finally kill the Zensha and positioned two models in the central room while having a Ghazi hidden behind the outer wall. My Zuyong was removed in the process.

    Round3:
My only chance was now to cramp the whole linkteam in the room while removing the haqqislamites in the process. But before I could attempt that, I had to remove a well know 5pt model, the Ghazi. This was achieved with my second Zhencha who came running from my board edge to help the big link out.
I got all four members and looted two items from the panoplies, very confident that 4 HI could not be erazed from the room anymore.
    -
In turn3 all available orders where pushed in a single combat group and second Ragik came flying right at the edge of the exclusion zone, running at the room with its blazing spitfire. With enough orders left, I had to win some face to face or armor rolls. Otherwise the game would be lost!
Luckily my HMG saved it for me when he tanked about 8 hits, making 6 of 8 armor rolls and going down too late for the Ragik to claim the room!

Result: 8:1 (157:158) for Invincible Army!
It was a tight match against a good opponent in an friendly atmosphere. This is how I like my infinity games, no matter the result. The risk of infiltrating the Zhenchas did it for me. Even though the initial blow was almost stopped, he was a sting in my opponents deployment zone for two turns, clearly winning me the game.

Game two was set against our local Shasvastii player. He won the roll and made me deploy first, so I chose first turn again, playing the same list as before. I did deploy the linkteam quite conservatively because I feared the Noctifer. I had to deploy first, so his it would allow him to know exactly where the big juicy linkteam would be coming from. With the success of the Zhenchas last game, I tried my luck again and succeeded in both rolls this time. One Zhencha was placed on a big tower where a possible Noctifer could be placed and the second was placed last, right next to Sheskiins linkteam. But both Zhenchas got counter deployed very well. One with two of his six Taigha creatures and the second with a Speculo, who placed his mine right next to me. (which was illegal, but we did not know at that point)

    Round1:
My plan for turn 1 was to kill as many Taigha creatures as possible. These would be a huge threat to my army. But first, I had to lure out that Noctifer. I immediately cancelled my linkteam and moved the Zuyong HMG alone, which indeed made the Noctifer attack me. I had to shoot through the objective room and failed all three attack rolls, but my opponent also failed his roll, needing only a 15! It was very lucky, but the goal was achieved. I was now able to evacuate the right Zhencha but in my fear I chose a bad path and ended in a mediocre spot with supressive fire active. It was not far enough away for the chain colts of the fast moving critters.
Anyway, I could kill the Noctifer with my reformed linkteam and activated one console. I was not in a good spot after that turn. At least the Xenotech, linked to my engineer, could walk in the objective room and place the multiscanner.
    -
Despite my plans, I did not kill a single Taigha and I now had to weather the storm with six impetuous and six irregular orders for the Taighas alone. I managed to kill one in ARO fire, but the other five ate the left deployed Zhencha for breakfast with their CC27 berserk attacks. Although it already felt like a whole turn, there where still 10 regular orders in group one and a Sheskiin in a linkteam. After also doing the Xenotech thing, the link moved up to face my Zuyong missile launcher. This is always an important moment, but Sheskiin honored her reputation and double crit me on a 1, removing my ARO piece in one burst. The linkteam then zoomed around the objective room and wounded my HMG before going back to a defensive firing position. This only cost seven orders and left three for the Speculo Killer who ran towards my linkteam, placed a mine threatening three members and with its last order attacked Tai Sheng in CC. This dire blow would mean an early end for my game, but I made one dodge, took one wound on the HaiDao and made the all important armor save against the mono blade while the shotgun blast of the HaiDao and Tai Shengs chain-colt killed the Speculo. Wow! That was lucky and it was only the first round.

    Round2:
I had a Sheskiin link nearby, so I had to remove that threat or I would not withstand a second attack. I chose the combi Zuyong because of the rangeband over the HMG and started attacking. After two tries, I was crit with a one once again and switched to Tai Sheng, who was the better attacker anyway. He then managed to kill Sheskiin and drove the Gwailos behind total cover. This took too long for a decent turn, but I could activate a console and position myself to weather the 2nd Taigha wave.
    -
That wave rolled right through the objective room and killed all link members but Tai Sheng who was too far away to be catched. Man, those Taighas are scary when they tank the armor roll after berserking your troops. Really hard to get rid of when there are so many. With the remaining orders, there was one console clicked and a repositioning done, bringing my opponent into the objective room with too many troops for me to kill.

    Round3:
My only hope was Tai Sheng now. He still had both wounds and he still could use the NCO orders of my LT, which gave me six orders for the last turn. Tai wasted no time and ran around a build on the right side of the map, killed the Gwailos and the Forward Observer bot, turned the console back over to the IA and even did a coup de grace for my classified! Just imagine he would have died from the Speculo the first turn!
    -
My opponent had not enough in the tank to click two consoles and couldn’t kill any more troops, so the game ended there. I had more consoles, placed the scanner and did my classified, while he had the room with his Xenotech and also placed the scanner.
Result: 6:5 (81:88) for Invincible Army!
Shasvastii are brutal. Taighas, Sheskiin the Noctifer, Speculo Minelayer and nice camo infiltrators are hard to fend off. And even though I won, I felt quite lucky in the first turn. I keep my opinion about Fatality L2. Its just not fun to get crited on a 1. Kudos to my opponent who played it well and made me sweat with his Taighas.

I never had won two games in a row before and the third match was against one of the best players in our local meta, fielding this Vanilla Ariadna. He won the LT roll and decided to go first, which made me deploy second. I could counter deploy the first time in this tournament, but with 10 camo markers and a handful of chearleaders, I could only guess which witch was which. I placed the HaiDao MSV2 sniper and his team one the right side with a nice view to the right and middle of the table. One the left corner, I put a lone EVO drone (the LuDuan), only protected by the Warcor and a flashpulse bot. The Zencha went down next to a panoply on the left. The Daoying sniper was held in reserve to counter deploy the obligatory Uxia McNeil who went down prone on the staircase next to my MSV2 link. This was the point where I realized that I could not place the mine right next to her camo marker. Know your rules! This left the Daoying in a bad spot. It would have been better to counter with another model for sure.

    Round1:
The game started with Duroc walking on on the left table side right next to the EVO drone. Duroc, to his surprise, took a flamer right to the face when the LuDuan revealed, but he only took a wound thanks to his total immunity. He also ignored the flashpulse bot and the warcor. Margot walked on only a couple of inch away and started to drop grenades on the LuDuan and my doctor, killing both in two orders. I missed the Daoying Sniper here! Duroc chewed through the flashpulse bot and a hideous camo marker started to approach my MSV2 sniper from the other deployment zone. It turned out to be a Spetznaz HMG who opened fire on the sniper, but was a tiny sliver too far away to be in good range. He payed dearly for his mistake when he ate both double action rounds. Out of plan A options for the turn, my opponent ran another camo marker to my table side, which could be discovered as a Hardcase.
    -
I had the feeling I could do quite some damage on my opponents backline and spoiled my LTs position to give controlled jump to the LiuXing Spitfire. The LiuXing discovered another Spetznaz HMG with his first order and killed him with a double crit in the second (sorry again!). The Speznaz was followed by a Grunt, the Warcor and poor Margot, who all could not withstand the hot spitfire running wild. With Margot and both Spetznazs killed the game was looking very good so far.

    Round2:
In round two the 112 sprang to action and ran towards the first Spetznaz, but killed him instead of reviving him. Out of other options, Uxia activated and took the fight to the MSV2 HaiDao in 8“ range. It took her around six orders to finally kill the Sniper with armors saved on both sides until she rolled her deserved crits. The Hardcase then went to my backline and showed the scots lady what american efficiency means. He killed three Zhanshi in three orders with his shotgun, leaving me with only five orders for my second turn!
    -
I also went for the ariadnan order pool in search for the LT and dropped my second LiuXing, clipping two chearleaders with his explosive template! But math was too honest and they both made it, either by dodging or by passing the armor save. The boarding shotgun then did what the template could not, but it took me all six orders to kill two kazaks and two volunteers, leaving the LiuXing in NWI.

    Round3:
Now my opponent was also quite order starved, but his LT was still alive. He opponent took his chance and went for my camo LT hacker with Duroc. I had the option to hope for a bad discover roll with a followed intuitive attack or take my chance and tank the double chain rifle while killing the wounded dogwarrior. I chose the second of two bad options and went down for my desperation. But I could indeed kill Duroc. Uxia then killed the last Zhanshi who was my datatracker and a Chasseur made sure I could not reach his datatracker Grunt with my LiuXing before Ariadna ran out of orders.
    -
A safe game was now starting to get lost because my LT and datatracker where gone, he had killed more specialists and I was in LoLT. Good for me that I still had two command tokens left. Two orders went into my spitfire LiuXing who killed the last Kazak in desperate search for the enemy LT. The last two orders of the tournament were reserved for my Zhencha, who slept all the game next to a panoply. He grabbed some gear out of that panoply, observed the corpse of the warcor nearby and ended in 8“ of the enemy HVT, netting me three objective points in two orders. At the end, I realized there was another Kazak right next to where my boarding Liu Xing landed, well hidden inside a container which I completely overlooked. This of course was the LT, meaning my opponent had a 4:3 lead and it would come down to army points!

Result: 6:4 (137:107) for Invincible Army!
I took a big risk in revealing my LT next to Duroc and in hindsight, it was a bad idea, I did not make need the extra +3 for the jump. I also should have removed the threat to my backline first. (Duroc, Margot, Uxia and the Hardcase). This way I needed some hot dice to fend off my opponents comeback. I also should mark every container with a model in it with a big cross! Thanks also this time for a nice and friendly game. Anytime again!

Two minors and one major win were enough for the third place. Thanks to all our organizers and helping hands. It was a good day with many friendly players in a good atmosphere.

My revenge will come! Don't worry. But you deserved the win. :grinning:

Despite miscalculating the range in the most important exchange and eating some important crits, I made several fundamental mistakes: If my second Spetsnaz would have been prone you couldn't have killed him, I also wasted two orders in round one for bad range speculative fire shots where I could have just moved Margot into a safe spot with suppressive fire. But I didn't.

Good to see some meaningful results! Throwing Zhencha is surely something formidable thing in our pocket when playing IA.

I enjoyed third game report typically; Liu Xing in action! Always a good thing to look at.

Double Zhenchas in LI list, I might try it later myself Haha

The deep infiltration of the double Zhenchas is quite nice in missions where you have an exclusion zone. This way you loose less if the roll fails. Having that model next to the enemy deployment zone is a great counter to prone chearleader LTs on high buildings who thought they are safe.
The roll is a 50% chance anyway. Thats 75% if you have two models to risk that.

In game1, it won the game for me. In game2 it wasn't worth it because I played it wrong and was counter deployed.

Yes, please Zapp, elaborate on IA some more. I've got a big tournament coming up this weekend and I'm STILL undecided on my 2nd list.

Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated.

For a short comment on IA in general, I would put it this way. This is all written from a (my) power perspective, putting nice looking models and flavour aside.

There are three kinds of lists that you can build with IA.
    - LI with Zuyong Core aiming for 14 orders
    - Tai Sheng Haris + Maybe Zhanshi Core in two combat groups for 16+ orders
    - MSV2 HaiDao defensive Core with a flavour of Zhencha/Daoying/Bots/HacTao depending on mission

The first kind of list feels the most like IA.
The second I still have to try, thinking that this could be very strong if you don't need that extra +3 for your link.
The third kind of list is imho the strongest and most flexibel, but doesn't feel very IA at all.

    - Vanilla is stronger than IA because of the Mercs and KuangShi.

    - Take only one list that uses a Zuyong Core team to a tournament. If you have to play on an open table against Noctifers/Swiss/HacTao ML or for example on a 16" deployment zone mission against Emily/Druze with her E/M LGL, you'll have a problem.

    - The MSV2 HaiDao Sniper with Zhanshi Core is a game dominating linkteam, only 2nd behind the Kamau Link imho. It is so strong (and cheap), that any list with it will likely to be better that the Zuyong Core.

    - If there is an exclusion zone in the Mission, try to deep infiltrate your Zhencha if you see a nice spot or obvious LT.

    - If you don't play Tai Sheng/Mowang, find a purpose for the extra 2 LT orders of your Daoying. Take remotes or buff LiuXings. Be careful though with missions that need to find the LT (third batrep as reference). ;-)

I never found a purpose for Hulangs, Guijia, ShangJi (only here and there), Zhanshi ML/Sniper, Krit, Yan Huo.

What about a list with a 3-man core and a haris of zuyong to make it more flexible? I wanted to try this tomorrow at the club, but the lure of shasvastii is too strong...

Alternatively, with Tai Sheng for NCO, but one less regular order:

Thanks for the sharing, it's always nice to see someone making IA shine!
Those Thaigas are really a pain to deal with...

I really like those lists, I will try the double Zuyong-Haris! Maybe for the second one, change the Daoying to the 21pts version and add a Chaiyi remote so you get your 10 orders? IMO the Daoying hacker can't do much here except putting some Fairy Dust up, and you could have a mobile repeater that would profit to your Haidao KH.

From the rules, you can only have one Haris, but your 2nd one can easily be a Core.

If I had to build a list with Zuyong Haris, I'd probably start here:
    Core + Haris 19,5 Orders
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    GROUP 1[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]9 [IMG]1
DĀOYĪNG Lieutenant L2 Hacker (Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 29)
    MECH-ENGINEER Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)
    YÁOZĂO Electric Pulse. (0 | 3)
    RUI SHI Spitfire / Electric Pulse. (1 | 20)
ZHĒNCHÁ (Forward Observer) Submachine Gun, D.E.P., Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 34)
SHÀNG JÍ (Tactical Awareness) Spitfire / Pistol, Shock CCW. (2 | 45)
ZHANSHI (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12)
    ZHANSHI Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11)
    ZHANSHI Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11)
    ZHANSHI Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11)
    WARCOR (360º Visor) Flash Pulse / Stun Pistol, Knife. (0 | 3)

    GROUP 2[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]4
ZÚYŎNG (Fireteam: Duo, Tactical Awareness) HMG / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (1.5 | 38)
    ZÚYŎNG (Fireteam: Haris, Tactical Awareness) Combi Rifle + 1 TinBot B (Deflector L2) / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0.5 | 34)
HǍIDÀO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 26)

Good! Fairy Dust is actually pretty significant to provide -9 to hacking attacks vs both links. And the daoying is a specialist. The list with 9 regular orders and TS (with NCO) actually has one extra order to spend on the links compared to the list with 10 regular orders. I think it’s worth it to get an extra specialist in compared to a flash bot that’ll die pretty fast.

I also like the idea of a haris with TS and daoying in the second group. Those four models in the second group have 8 orders!

I'm liking these lists....This is what I kind of leaning towards for my second list....non-pain train of coarse. Keeping it at 10 orders, but aggressive...No backup for the LT, but she can cover a fire lane if need be and keeps her hidden along with those Zhenchas

The Daoying Sniper LT is fantastic. She can be used to -12 tr bots, and take shots at warbands at log range, acting like a supporting skirmisher. Just don’t engage targets that can shoot back.

You can also change the Hulang for a sensor bot and a sniffers and a engineer or doctor with Yaozao or something like that. Cos Hulang are very fragile imo.

So no love for the Hulang? Seems to be a great toolbox for dominating the mid-field and relieving the HacTao of the main bulk of work.

The Hulang really needs smoke support for best effectiveness. Or full camo marker-state.

I'll give you Full Camo marker-state. Would make sense to blend back into the shadows after an attack. With the F2 deployment though, I don't think the smoke would be that necessary. He's already going to be positioned to be effective...At least IMHO.

Smoke is more to remove AROs from people until he arrives in CC, Galwegian-style.

I've faced them more times than I've used them. They were pretty easy to dominate with a HI link and a Rui Shi.
