done reading. so the logic as i get it, is that a wildcard can replace any member but several wildcard can not replace all of the members but must leave at least 1 from the setup called for the special core chart. the 1 left in the team can be replaced by a count as because it count as the same, but not swapped out for a wildcard.
I disagree, but I think I have gotten it cleared by now that the team I described is A-OK, because Yan Huo doesn't join Zuyong, they are part of the team naturally so replacing the Zuyong with a Shang-Ji and one Yan Huo with a Panggolin is perfectly fine. Basically, I find it extremely hard to find any Haris where this would be a problem, mostly because either the Haris-skilled model can natively form a Fireteam or the potential other models have to be Wildcards themselves or can natively form Haris.
I'm talking about this example of an illegal Fireteam Core ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 5 KNIGHT OF SANTIAGO Lieutenant (Specialist Operative) Spitfire, Nanopulser, E/M Grenades, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (1 | 43) KNIGHT OF SANTIAGO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, D-Charges + 1 TinBot A (Deflector L1) / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 38) KNIGHT OF SANTIAGO (Specialist Operative) Spitfire, Nanopulser, E/M Grenades, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (1.5 | 43) FATHER-KNIGHT Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Breaker Pistol, DA CCW. (0.5 | 50) FATHER-KNIGHT Missile Launcher / Breaker Pistol, DA CCW. (1.5 | 49) 4.5 SWC | 223 Points Open in Infinity Army
The explanation of why we can't have a Fireteam of 4 Wildcard + 1 Rhu Shi isn't supported by the RAW right now. Both the Rhu Shi and Wildcard use the term 'join'. Yáoxiè RUI SHI - Special Fireteam. Up to 1 Rui Shi can join a Zúyŏng Invencibles Fireteam. RAKTORAK, Morat Sergeant Major - Special Fireteam. Wildcard trooper: Raktoraks can join any Fireteam of this Sectorial Army. We now have a ruling on how Wildcards can 'join' Fireteams. But the Rhu Shi is not a Wildcard so doesn't benefit from this ruling. Pretending the term 'join' is used as IJW describes doesn't work for everyone. So the idea that the Rhu Shi joining a Fireteam of Zúyŏng is somehow different than any other Fireteam isn't clear from the rules. And from there, using the Wildcard ruling, we can replace the 4 Zúyŏng. To fix this properly, more work needs to be done. If 'joining' a Fireteam is supposed to function the same as the ruling for Wildcard, define a term that explains this and use it where applicable. If more exceptions like this new ruling are preferred, the Rhu Shi and others like it need to be identified as such.
While I think the language used in the rules is kind of inconsistent, we have a situation where this has been settled by decree and not by debate. A developer, not IJW, has stated how this works. Both Wildcards and Rui Shi join a Fireteam, meaning that for them to join a Zuyong Fireteam, there has to be a Zuyong. 4x Bounty Hunters + 1 Gromoz is equally invalid because none of these may form a Core and they have replaced all models who could. What I'm saying is, whether this meshes well with the rules as written is not of concern. They have stated how we should interpret it.
So if that sole Zuyong in a Fireteam with a Rui Shi and 3 ABHs goes unconscious the link can't be reformed, correct?
Or we could, you know, fix it properly for all those poor souls who play the game. Rather than just for those who hang out here plus know the forum inside and out.
Glad I'm reading it right. Seems like a big nerf to free-form, Wildcard reliant cores and I'm OK with that.
While that's ideal, the overhead cost means that it's not feasible even bi-annually. IJW did add it to the wiki so it should reach most people playing the game
This ruling made things more complicated and didn't really do anything for game balance. Why was it made?
Because CB starts to realize that the overuse and overabundance of Wildcards and mixed links was a god awful design decision.
Say that to Dahshat (although I think the Zuyong Haris profile in the ABH+Rui Shi core is the "correct" inclusion regardless since it adds both an additional order (mobility) and protection against hacking)
He didn't add the ruling about the Rhu Shi and similar troopers to the wiki. Only the ruling about Wildcard. So CB is so hard up they can't afford to maintain Infinity's rule set... Do you really believe and accept that? Maybe CB should run a kickstarter and have us all pay for a N4 lol.
In terms of balance? Or rules simplicity? This won't solve any balance problems and makes the rules more complicated.
See, you just showed why it wouldn't. It was a funny thing to do, but not overpowered in a way that this will fix.
Also it's really weird and awkward to make this rules change and then not update the FAQ. Honestly, if it's not in the rulebook, and not in the FAQ, is it a rule?
Yeah, why not just wait for the next FAQ to make this ruling? Is it really so important that we needed it now?
It's not. And creates the precedent that a CB employee's extemporaneous comments on a podcast can change the rules instantly. This isn't a good thing. Honestly I'm just going to ignore it until it makes it into the FAQ.
