For the last few days there's always a mass of Chinese spambots in the new threads. Could somebody please upgrade the forum registration requirements (at least a captcha or Infinity related questions?) so that the spambots cannot register automatically, please?
lol at first I thought it may be a threat about spamming REM and EVO combo :D But yeah, completly agree.
Something simple as "What are the initials of the company that released Infinity and Aristeia?" - "CB".
Seriously though, I open the forum in the morning and there's 20+ new threads about "colleges" with Chinese alphabet in them, all from two or three spambots. Can somebody please get on the ball of protecting this Forum? @HellLois @psychoticstorm?
Oh crap, there was a new outpour of them in Korean as well since I posted this. This morning's (4,5 hrs ago) batch was Chinese, but you're right, the last ones are in Korean. At this point I want them to be in Polish as well, feeling excluded here.
First four full pages of New Content are chock full of spam. Would somebody here please do their job?
Did you just delete / ban or are there new registration measures implemented? Those would be simple options / plugins in the forum backend (admin panel).
There is obviously a new generation of Spambots that bypass the registration filters, I hope new/ more updated features will be installed soon.
Unless someone incorporates a non-standard 'humanity check' solution, we will be susceptible to spambots. CAPTCHAs are too widespread, and bot-makers use neural networks and speech recognition to solve those, so that's not a solution. I mean, if this Chrome extension exists, probably bot-makers can find a way to solve even the visual challenge (such as 'click all the storefronts') CAPTCHA. I mentioned it before and I will say the same thing again: the simple solution is to add a multiple-choice question on the registration form, where only some choices are correct, and make the default answer incorrect. This is not a widespread technique, it doesn't rely on using optical or speech recognition (both of which are used by bots to solve existing CAPTCHAs), and since bots don't traverse website source code, this solution will be impenetrable by bots for quite a long time. @Zoe @Koni, please pass this to your forum devs.
"Their food* is guaranteed to please" but not as much as their diplomas. Spoiler: Open the Can *: unable to find the Spam song in Mandarin or similar, so this will have to be enough.
They're back. At this stage I may as well take my interest in discussing infinity to 4chan, which says something about the state of things here.
Spammers in the wire, hit the claymores!!! And here I was going to laugh that the spambots were attacking the very place we were complaining about them.
Not only XRumer, whatever method is used here. Users' reports being capable of putting new accounts in quarantine also works, the power of meatbag-AI. You mean Data Sphere.
FFS, they're back again! Can we get a human-approval system turned on for new posters? Either that or get an auto-ban if someone gets more than ~5x reported posts in 10 minutes, with a mod to review? Or an auto-ban if someone gets reported as a user (as opposed to individual posts)? Yes, with a mod to review. Edit: Also, can we do something about the "you must wait 30 seconds between reports" setting in the forum software? It took me an extra 5 minutes to report all the spam posts!
