Oh so Spec-Ops just updated. The stuff we get in now different depending on the faction you play. We have quite much new stuff like Drop Bears, Jammer and Feuerbach. On the other hand Doctor, KD and especially Engineer are now more expensive. So what would you get for your 12xp now and why? I kinda still like my super-Sniper Fusilier but Mimetism is now more expensive, so Feuerbach, Mimetism and Minelayer makes it 12xp. But man that 4xp Jammer is alluring...
Varuna Immediate Reaction Division ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 1 FUSILIER (Infinity Spec-Ops) (12 XP) (ODD: Optical Disruptor) Combi Rifle, Feuerbach / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) 0 SWC | 11 Points Open in Infinity Army This makes one pretty nutty ARO piece – also makes a decent attacker aswell. Varuna Immediate Reaction Division ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 1 FUSILIER (Infinity Spec-Ops) (12 XP) (BS:13, Multispectral Visor L1) Combi Rifle, Shock Marksman Rifle, Drop Bears (Throwing Weapon) / Pistol, Knife, D-Charges. (0 | 11) 0 SWC | 11 Points Open in Infinity Army For a back up gun or link team utility The new options are way more fun than the old ones – I almost never want to take a super specialist anymore
So BS has actually become quite cheap. Going from 12 to 13 is 2xp, going from 12 to 14 is only 5! ARM and wounds are still super expensive so no making a cheap HI. This isn’t super useful for us, but I’m certainly eyeing it for Foreign Co. I’d be tempted for something like a Super-Jump Shock Marksman Rifle ODD for an aggressive attack piece. I think the biggest benefit is in MO, strangely, because a single Order Sergeant can join Knight links! Being able to throw Drop Bears and a Jammer into a Magister/Santiago link, for example, sounds fantastic.
Some general thoughts: Drop Bear value goes up immensely from 5-man link bonus, but is pretty limited on an unlinked unit due to low PH. Jammer in a link loves 6th Sense L2, providing great area denial and a single-target Sensor, but gains no stat benefits. ODD is obviously pretty hot. Nice to have that as a PanO signature. Ditto Fuerbach. Minelayer remains one of my favorites, and I love that it's beautifully cheap. I particularly love that Marksman Rifle option. One of the games best all-around weapons and great for both linked and solo Spec Ops, especially since they still have their Combi for close-range.
That's a good sign about the change in options. Super specialists were boring, if often useful in N2. I know this is the PanO forum, but I'm kinda unimpressed by the YJ/IA options (Imperial SS can go DIAF). Lots of options, but nothing that seems to jump out at me as a build I'd want to make. Maybe I need to get the book and sit down and read it for a while. PanO seems to have a lot of cool/interesting options.
Kinda upset i can no longer make a competent close combat specialist in MO tbh. People were always surprised at ma3 nbw cc 20 spec ops.
PanO, ALEPH, CA and Haqqislam especially seem to get awesome options (jammer and holoprojector is something Haqq can do which seems potentially very useful).
Was kinda confused by Jammers in Links too... ... but it seems they get full Fireteam benefits since they are BS Weapons and don't need to use Entire Order Skills to Target non Marker troops.
Plot twist, it seems that Jammers use wording from Forward Observe and that means they don't. Its all over again (frikking Jammer rules).
Plot twist, they definitely get the link bonus as was made quite clear in that thread you charlatan! ;) It'll be hard not to take Jammers on spec ops when you can. Of course with that sad Fusilier WIP of 12 be slightly less effective than the glorious Ghulam Jammer but I'm sure you'll all make do! Jammer plus Drop Bears or AP Mines gives you mean area control though.
Interesting options I've noticed: 9 points to do "Plasma" with a Breaker Combi and Marksmanship (does Nanopulser also work?). 12 points to do Jammer, Drop Bears, Minelayer and Hacking Device with WIP +1. 12 points again for Red Fury, Forward Deployment lvl 1 and Albedo. Of course, you can still do an Engineer/Hacker with Mimetism, or a Doctor/Engineer with WIP +1 and 4 points over for something else of interest.
Or play Acon and have WIP 13 base on a Regular. Or play Vanilla and get to select the one you like the most.
And what? Isn't that brand new, strong and super fun sectorial (just like you know, Ramah, IA or VIRD) ?
