Why is it acceptable for them to call me confused or immature, but me cursing at them for calling me that, is unacceptable and results in a warning?

What names can I call them in retaliation?

Current method: Shine line laser matching up with the arc marks on the circular base.

Your method: Either work or how to do a tangent (ugh, maths), or use a non-circular base (which has a whole host of gameplay issues), or use an additional game aid slowing down play.

I can't see a way your solution can be measured as accurately or easily as the current one, and using non-circular bases is a complete non-starter. For something measured as often as LoF the current method represents a trade-off between ease/speed of play and strange corner cases that will rarely come up in actual play.

We also know from IJW that they tested your method and found it more cumbersome.

Any mod warning posted in thread is directed at all participants, not anybody in particular.

IJW's testing is hardly conclusive, nor did it likely cover all alternatives.

Hovering a laser pointer in line with the markings on the base is hardly that different to hovering a laser pointer parallel to those marking at the back of the base.

EDIT: actually, you could paint a line at the back that would be easier to follow with the pointer. No mini getting in the way.
Well I received a warning for a post. If those are not visible to everyone, then it's possible they've received a warning and I just can't see it.

I'd call this faster and even more accurate now.

EDIT: With current game play we also have to trust the marking along the middle of the base accurately intersect the center of the circle.

    1) IJW is a playtester, so when he says something was tested it's not just him.

    2) While it's not really slower to align the laser then move it, you're introducing inaccuracy and potential cause of argument as you've no longer got the laser on direct points of reference.

Why do you need to retaliate is a better question to be asking yourself.

How far from the back of the base is that line? Is this the same for all sizes of base?

What about resin bases that would require to be painted over?

How do you ensure everyone has that line exactly the same distance from the back of the base?

Once again we're adding complexity for extremely minor benefit.

Ultimately, all of those factors are just as prevalent with the current process. Hovering a laser pointer above the mini with shaky hands and having each player try to agree it's accuracy seems more difficult.

I can place a straight ruler/stick/laser pointer in line with the back of a base and eyeball it's parallel to whatever line is painted at the back. Having that object securely on the table makes alternate view points easier to acquire.
    Thanks

Umm...I can see a warning on Razi's post.

Wait, does that mean I have special powers?

The edge of a stick/ruler/laser pointer at the back will be infinity closer, secure, and more accurate to that painted line at the back than the current process.

Painting the entire front arc or edges on the base requires the edges to intersect the center of the base accurately. Trying to find the LoF angle of 180 degrees in both directions will be difficult as I doubt many bases will allow for an object to sit on the table and pass over those two points without the mini getting in the way. The distance you'll need to have the laser pointer above those two points will be far greater than using the back.

In those situations where something doesn't sit easily along the back. The difference between the two methods is going to be extremely small.
    Thanks you two!

Imagine a little triangle painted on where we use the baseline as the guide.

At this size, we could turn the triangle around so the point shows the front. More intuitive.

Yes, but the sentence you’re referring to has been changed by the errata so that it says targets in their front arc, rather than seeing from their front arc.

We could use stickers in tournaments... I'd say this gets easier the more i consider the possibilities.

I'm not seeing what point you're making that suggests their way is better.

I didn’t claim anything about it being better, just that you (were) using phrasing that has been updated/replaced.

Alright, but that seems irrelevant unless you need me to clarify anything at this point. I hope the diagrams make things crystal clear.

@ijw Maybe have stickers/markers on both sides of the base so the active player can see from their perspective and the reactive player can see from theirs.
    Have you play tested this?
