Alright so this came up last game. Unit A and B are standing within the trigger zone of a mine. The mine will hit them both if it goes off. A hostile unit moves within LoF of Unit A, and unit A dodges, causing the mine to explode. Does unit B; 1: Get to dodge since you are always allowed to dodge templates. or 2: does not get to dodge since he had no ARO.
1 - Being affected by an attack by a Template Weapon is sufficient to get an ARO http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Template_Weapons_and_Equipment#Effects Any trooper in base contact with a Template, or whose base or Silhouette Template is covered at least partially by a Template, is equally affected by the Template Weapon or Equipment. Troopers affected by a Template Weapon or Equipment can declare Dodge as their second Short Skill or ARO, even if they do not have LoF to the attacker. Do note that the Dodge has a -3 MOD for both units with regards to avoiding the Mine's template due to it being a Deployable Weapon (this MOD is not applied to the attack from the hostile unit)
Okay, neat! Followup question: you get a -3 mod to dodging templates from an attacker you cannot see, right? Would this be cumulative with the Deployable Weapon mod?
You roll ONCE the dodge, but has to check TWO target numbers. First one is the dodge Vs the attacking troop, at PHIS. Second target number is Vs the mine, and is PHIS-3. For both target numbers, you have to check against the dice... so it's possible to dodge the mine but not the gun, the gun but not the mine, both or none.
Don't quote me on this, just answering until we get someone with better Rulesjutsu, but I seem to recall that the MOD for Deployable Weapon is the same as the MOD for not seeing the target, so they don't stack. Again, I'm not certain, so before you put that to long term memory, wait for someone like IJW or Toadchild.
It's a MOD that's applied for templates from a Deployable Weapon or you can't see the attacker, so no it doesn't stack. See http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Template_Weapons_and_Equipment#Effects
