I understand that. My problem was that I thought Dodge was a Short movement skill, it is not. However I still like that as soon as they come into contact with it, they must stop. Even if they were an inch away! I can't wait to put it down in front of a certain Nomad and his Chimera! BTW: Minelayer is an Optional skill. If i go first I can decide NOT use the minelayer skill. This may be because I'd like to move up further into the enemy half of the table and deploy the first Dazer.
I haven't yet had time to inspire the fear of the mentors into my local opponents, so if I go first I expect to get docked of 2 orders... But the mission is to control quarters and all my models except the AD in group 2 are already contributing. So if I go first I don't really feel I need that many orders, I'll be mainly mine laying and going for table control, maybe killing targets of opportunity. If I win LT roll off, I'm probably choosing deployment with this army in this scenario :-)
One thing to watch with Dazers is template weapons, since they aren't camo'd we'll have to take some care where they are placed lest avenues of attack are opened up.
On the other hand if you're playing on a table with lots of multi-store buildings - as we do - Dazers will be nearly impossible to get rid of, unless a player will commit his camo infiltrators to the task. I can place a Dazer on the 1st or second floor, or on the roof, with mines or one of my units placed to intercept any infiltrators, and suddenly it's very hard to destroy the device. I consider Dazers to be the second most broken thing in the current SEF, right after Cadmus.
If the Dazer is on the roof of a building, for example, will it effect the ground and the rooftop or just the rooftop?
According to the wiki ZoC is defined as 8in high but for most practical purposes it might as well be infinite. I was just wondering how people were going to play it is all. Sticking one on a mid-floor of a multiple level building will be really annoying.
Dazer has an area of ZoC but with the added clause that it is infinitely high, so a ground floor Dazer will affect the top floor no matter the height of the building and vice versa. It's a good reason to bring a few grenades in your lists.
I'm looking forward to trying this out this weekend. I'll try to write something up on Monday. If you have a lot of buildings with rooftops that are impossible to reach, that creates an environment that's way too good for things like this. Put staircases and so on next to them so people can access.
There's no place that's impossible to reach on our tables, but without a Multiterrain unit nearby it'll take a lot of orders to do so. In a game yesterday I've managed to neutralize a whole flank of Ghazi screen that way, and force an assault fireteam to lose orders to go around it.
Ug I had a horrible game today with Shasvastii. Went second against Ramah. Not good. He was very rude to me by killing almost everything I had! Man the Nahab brutal! I tried the dazer and liked it but It sucked not having mines. I really need them against him. If you take a shrouded with Dazer, also take a minelayer.
I've only used the new version once for now, and it performed exactly as I've expected. I've tried to land with the Seed on a rooftop near Asawira/Awicenna/Govad Core. I've missed, and Dispersion moved me almost into the table's corner - and exactly into the blind spot of the fireteam. Should I land in their sights, I'd still be able to actually end up in a blind spot thanks to the way Decoy works. Hell, I'd be able to move back onto the rooftop I was aiming for. Not to mention that this allows me to position the Seed in a spot where its Chest Mines will cause most damage. Next thing - I used Autohatch, and since I'm spending the order on the state without Stealth, the opponents have to declare AROs. As a second Short Skill I'm declaring Morpho-Scan - denying the target the possibility of Reset. In this case I've scanned Asawira (I have my doubts now if this is a legal declaration, as the change of states would happen mid-order. But the way Seed-Embryo and Autohatch are worded, it seems like a possible sequence). After that I was able to use combination of Gwailo, Cadmus, and Shrouded with BS to effectively dismantle the whole fireteam. The only thing I've forgotten was the Scavenger - I could pick up AP Rifle+LSG afterwards. But for a unit that wasn't used in the best possible way Cadmus was still awesome. As I've mentioned, I'm not sure if Autohatch can be combined with ordering the Developed Shape about in the same order. But even the manipulation of landing spot via Decoy is enough to make Cadmus extremely deadly.
Autohatch has to be the first skill of the order and applies the new profile for the whole order, basically like dismount. Autohatch+morpho-scan seems fine to me.
This was the missing puzzle. In this case Autohatch is covered by Stealth, so enemy can hold ARO and then try to Reset against scan. Still nasty, but at least it leaves the option to defend.
