Because the minimum result a BS21 trooper can roll is 2

    If memory serves me right...
Any stat in excess of 20 is added to the result of your dice roll.
I.E. 21 exceeds 20 by 1, so any dice result you roll gets +1 added to it.
    So your 1 ( Which would trigger Fatality Level 2. ) becomes a 2.
At least that's what I think the reasoning here is...?

FA2 goes off on a dice roll of a 1 not a result per IJW.

    It's all cool. Pretty excited.

Except for Fatality L2 Sheskiin. That's just dumb.

The one new Shasvastii unit that surprised me was the Gwalios. An older Shas unit turned into a HI Shasvastii with stealth, albedo & they keep their old nanoscreen? I like how they look on paper and hope we get a model or at least art for them soon.

Onyx got the combination of Greif Operators, Ko Dali and a really tasty new 33pt Malignos profile that's very playable. Really like the changes in totality, even if Greif are a basically cheap-and-fine.

Also, MAF got two new profiles for the Zerat. Go check them out, they're neat.

For what it's worth I had similar issues trying to build Spiral at first. What really helped was to stop trying to build whole lists and just start cranking out individual 'modules' that I like. Link teams or combinations of units or support etc. It got the creative juices flowing but also springboarded lists since I could then start plugging them wholesale into army and just filling the gaps.

Caliban and cadmus are the two, I want to play. I am unsure how good they are but think they have potential. Cadmus definitely seems like it depends on the opponents army pretty heavily.

Yeah, I'm super keen to put both of them in play as well. I'm hoping the cadmus isn't too enemy-dependent. It feels like there should be something tasty to morpho-scan in any given army. Even my local opponents' heavily skirmisher-focused Ariadna (which will have most models under camo markers and is pretty light on generally) keeps a blackjack in the DZ if I want to trade some MOV for a couple points of BS and PHY.

Pretty excite for most of these changes.

    Hype:
    • Pretty much everything new.
    • Jayth Cutthroats and Caliban really stand out to me the most, I'm gonna use the heck out of those guys - probably only the cheaper ones though. The SWC guys have a pretty hefty price premium attached to them.
    • Nox are a great little line troop compared to what we used to have.
    • Haiduk with AP MR is a big winner. The fact that we now have a sapper with MSV2 that can go into suppression fire with a genuinely dangerous gun, for not many points and no SWC? Gold.

    Meh:
    • I like the idea of the Mentor as a camo LT, but being the only ambush camo in the faction and also being the only camo (TO not included) tied to the deployment zone is disappointing. The Shock MR is a solid weapon on a surprise shot camo platform, but it also feels slightly overcosted on that profile. FD1 or something like that would have been nice :)
    • The FTO versions of the M-Drone are a big step up in price, and for getting just a nanoscreen (and linkability) it feels a little egregious. I think what happened here was that the Gwailos was originally going to cost more, but they dropped 8-10pts off of it and added it to the REMs instead.
    • Sliiiiightly disappointed that the Sphinx didn't get anything. It's still a fantastic TAG, but i've always struggled against heavier targets - it feels like mostly it's just specialised into hunting cheerleaders and mooks and can't really scratch the tougher stuff. Getting AP on the spitfire would have been nice, or even an alt profile with like, 2x Plasma Rifle or something would have been neat.

    Ughh:
    • Malignos and Shrouded kept the same old bogus stats, skills, equipment and profiles without being re costed or revised in any way. (and they were both overcosted compared to counterparts in other factions). Their new KHD profiles are extremely good compared to the ones, but that's only by virtue of getting equipment that gives them a discount.
    • Tensho Expert feels like a big wasted opportunity - its just a slightly harder to kill Nox specialist with a shotgun. Couldn't it have gotten something more, or different? The fluff on this unit suggests its a survival expert - why not make it a doctor, or paramedic? Anything would do, really.

Shrouded can minelay dazers and Malignos has a KHD with Dazer as well as a 0 SWC Lt option.

I really like the Nox and I think I see something interesting but don't know how to leverage it. Stealth+EI Hacker+Six Sense Level 2 (Link team).

Both infiltrators have very decent stats, and are priced ok. Automedikit+Shasvastii costs us 4 pts, I think it's a fair price to pay for the opportunity to revive an unconscious infiltrator - usually there's no chance of getting a doc to heal them - or the opportunity to contest a zone or keep pts in missions. New loadouts do outshine the old ones, but the latter are by no means useless.

On Tensho I agree fully, it's a lost opportunity. It'll see play because it's still a decent specialist - with a shotgun - to add to a Nox fireteam, but it's boring as a unit.

Gotta say that for the most part I am loving the new stuff.

I am disappointed that some models and load outs are not included in vanilla. I can understand why teaming a speculo minelayer with the avatar could be silly but no Gwailos is a headscratcher.

The Tensho expertse feel like a lost opportunity. They are great but a few extra options would have been nice.

Another load out for the Sphinx would have been cool but I am really happy with him anyway.

My trouble now is trying to squeeze too much cool stuff in a list without running low on points, swc or specialists.

I'm feeling super hype for Shas and for new Shas options in vanilla. After the next event, where I was already locked into Tohaa pre-Daedalus release, I'll be jamming one of those for sure.

Its funny, but with all the Sheskin hate going on, when I look at Shas I barely even see this profile. And when I do, I don't notice Fatality or Fatality Wildcard, I notice a fast red fury with badass CC stats *and* template added on for 54 points. Doesn't even need super crit to be strong. But Sheskin is buried amongst a pile of minelayer Dazers, badass ODD CC dudes, fuckin Predator remake Caliban, minelayer Speculo (!) and enough efficient cheap orders to run a Sphinx without running a pile of shitty old school seed soliders to back it up.

Shas pretty much became the perfect high tech Ariadna that they were always suppost to be. I love playing with Infiltrators, camo, and suicidal warbands, and now we do all of that efficiently and even got solid visor options to help with the matchup against our supposedly inferior low tech rivals. Though as much as I like the visors, they're mainly for discovering so that I can eat the fuckers in CC.

My meta has a lot of Aleph in it, and Nagas and Dasyus both make pretty jealous by comparison.
