Hey guys, I thought you'd like to read how my Druze performed at the LVO:

Las Vegas Open, A Druze Recap

They certainly didn't let me down, I went 4-0 and came in third place.

For those curious what I ran, without reading the article, here are the two lists I took:

I'm curious, how did you feel about the Brawler Doctor?

I know it's a much better kit and some stats, but I can help but see an even more expensive trauma doc serial killer lurking behind that facade.

I didn't get a chance to doctor anything at this event, though she's been spectacular in the past for bringing back important pieces like the LGL and keeping the link full. She's more of an insurance policy than anything. WIP12 really isn't that bad, only 1 point lower than most doctors, most of which are usually angels of death anyhow. Druze at least have cubes if you want to use a command token re-roll.

Haqq support pack, Govad sniper, and a hacker made from left over bits (Bashi with SMG arms on a female fusilier). I’m debating making new ones out of Muyibs though.

I play a list very similar to the second with Saito. The only difference is I use Arslan and a Warcor instead of the Brawler Lt, the second Pathfinder and the Fugazi. I guess it's a fair trade off, but I can imagine the added Orders and bodies might be more helpful in competitive play than the resilience and versatility of Arslan?

FWIW, I've been pretty happy with a mix of Daylami from the Hassassin starter, the old Hunzakut sniper, the old tiny Alguaciles hacker, and the Haqq support pack as my Brawlers. They're different enough from the Druze to be identifiable, but don't look higher-tech like the Muyibs do.

Arguably that'd be a problem if I ever wanted to take a Hunzakut sniper in my list, but I honestly cannot imagine ever taking a profile other than the FO.

I am kinda tempted by the LGL Hunzakut, because LGLs are pretty fun in some situations. :D

I played one last night. She was prone on the roof of a three story, middle building all game.

My Tohaa opponent didn't like the idea of dealing with spec fire from there, so he tried to do something about it. She pistoled the Kaeltar who came up after her, and later stun pistoled him for Hunting Party points. She also crit a spec fire on a Sukeul HMG on turn three taking his last wound. She did better than I expected she would, but she did miss 3 other spec fire shots.

Spec firing on 5 or 8 isn't great, but with deployable repeaters and DBS's relatively good ability to impose targeted; it can be on a 14 or 17 often. Also, surprise shot spec fire is a thing.

It's rough giving up such a versatile specialist (and losing the shottie) for the lgl. In general it's probably not worth losing the redundant suprise-shot FO, but with some scenarios fewer specialists can be better.

I ran the 3 Druze, 1 Brawler, 1 Clipper link each game, but I changed the composition of the links depending on my opponent and the scenario. Most of the time the Brawler was the AHD profile, but in some games I put the MSV2 sniper in there instead. If someone died, I always had Gromoz nearby to fill the gap, as well additional brawlers.

Grats on great placement, bud. I'm both sorry and relieved that we didn't get to cross paths on Saturday, but I did enjoy having you and nehemiah next to me in Round 4. Going undefeated in that field, which has such an immense concentration of talent, is a massive achievement. The hobby's luck to have you, and looking forward to Rose City later this year! We owe each other a game!

    Looking at your games:
-Would you have changed anything about your lists? Did you feel they had what you wanted for both the missions you played, and the opponents you faced? Obviously you were dominant with 4-0, but could you have optimized further?
-Were there any opponents or army matchups that you were hoping not to face? We all have those bad matchups...
-Can you recap a few pivotal moments for us, where a decision made one way or another had a major effect on a game?
-How are you feeling about the Druze for other mission lineups?

I agree with you about WIP12 by the way. I find WIP on Specialists to generally be an overappreciated stat, especially since a 5 or 10% difference on the initial roll isn't extreme, and applying re-rolls to the probability of success is major. It's probably a good thing, in fact, for keeping the cost down on Brawlers and making sure they don't feel too bloated with their extraneous stats (ARM, BTS, etc.)

In some ways it's a relief that troops like Hunzakut/Bashis are Irregular. They're pretty natural candidates for Coordinated Orders with Pathfinders and Saito, so not being able to Coordinated them helps free up some Command Tokens for dice re-rolls, link reforming, etc.

Thanks man, I'm looking forward to seeing you in June, if not sooner. :)

I think I could have optimized further by dropping the doctor in the first list, it was nice to have, but somewhat unnecessary with the number of ranged options I had available. I could have possibly leveraged her better too, deploying with the sniper, instead of near the link. I had plenty of link redundancy, and plenty of firepower options, so keeping the sniper up longer could have been a better call. I definitely missed my AHD in the second list, though I'm not sure what I'd sacrifice to get it in there. Saito was kind of disappointing this tournament, but I've used him enough times to know that most of the time, he's awesome sauce, but now I just know he isn't unstoppable. I may not take two peacemakers in the future, but had I faced more warbands, I'd have been happy to have them both.

The match ups I was hoping not to face were you and Obi, I didn't want to end my streak, haha. It took some luck and willingness to sacrifice my own troops to pull out my win against Obi, and I'm afraid what you would have done to me with that Swiss Guard. Army-wise, Ariadna camo spam is annoying, but I faced a YJ version of that and succeeded. If anything, I was more afraid of dealing with anyone bringing any kind of Dog Warrior or McMurrough, which is why I went for a strong mid-field presence, warbands really ruin my day.

Most of my tough decisions were centered around sacrificing models. I made heavy use of my chain colts, even with the Druze HMG, but to take down a TO/ODD model. I also sacrificed Peacemakers to handle Myrmidons (which didn't work so well). These were things I had intended to do, but when you give up expensive models, you need to be sure that it's the right call. Command Token usage was also nerve wracking, I might have done one coordinated order all tournament. Overall though, I tried my best to stick to my plan for handling the scenarios, losing models is part of the plan, you can't expect everything to live all game, redundancy is probably what did the most for me.

Druze have what it takes to do well in pretty much any mission. They may have a limited selection of specialists, but I'm used to that with USA, and they have great tools like Saito to compensate. Both lists were crafted to be mission specific, and I got in quite a few practice games with them so that I understood the tools I was using, and how to use them in those scenarios. I think that their biggest struggle is offensive DataTracker choices, Scarface being their only fast option, but I'm really starting to like Le Muet for the job. He may be somewhat slow, but the's hard to kill, carries a crap ton of equipment, starts 4" up the board, and carries a big gun.

I'll probably go back to USA for a little bit to prepare for Adepticon, but I'll still be giving the Druze their love.

I took Druze to the Australian nationals last weekend, didn't take 3rd by a long, long stretch.

How do you rate the EM LGL? Important or critical? Do you trade a Hunzakut's Camo for a Surprise FO on important enemy assets?

I really like the EM LGL, though I didn't actually get around to using it much this event. It never came up in my first game, since there were plenty of targets for my regular guns, my second game was against a bunch of camo, which he kept away from his non-camo units, my third game I isolated a couple of Dactyls, which just repaired themselves (dumb move on my part), and my fourth game Obi killed it first turn, haha. That said, I'd probably never leave home without one in a Druze army, they're cheap enough that they're always worth taking. The key is not over investing orders in them, you can waste a ton of orders that you could have used elsewhere.
