Quote from wiki article about miniature conversion you linked in your post : "One simple form of miniature conversion is known as "kitbashing", in which components of different kits are mixed to produce unique models. More complex conversions, however, often involve modifying the component parts, for instance by cutting or drilling."
Isn't that exactly what @psychoticstorm is saying ?

Not sure how you're thinking that's what he's saying when he keeps repeating things of this nature:
He's trying to make some kind of weird argument that GW alone is responsible for "kitbashing" to have become synonymous with "converting".

For what i understand from what he says, there's a difference between kitbashing and converting, the latter being more complex, but the extensive use of multipart kits by GW combined to their communication has led people to consider kitbashing being converting.
    But i might have misunderstood.

    See this post:
I stand by what I said. Storm's just trying to take potshots at GW here. And he doesn't even get it right really--ever heard of Blanchitsu from WD? Because that sure as shit fits the bill for what he tries to paint as "conversion" instead of kitbashing.

It doesn't really matter. Both kitbashing and converting become more difficult when there's a gigantic hold where the model's spleen is meant to be because otherwise the rifle butt doesn't fit in the intended pose.

Besides, this has been argued exhaustively on the various GW forums the past 20 to 30 years. I'd also be willing to bet this has been a debate irrespective of GW on various other miniature games forums as there is significant prestige involved in dismissing someone's legitimate conversion as a "simple kitbash".

To you. To others, not so much. And we don’t have to agree on the terms.

Kit-bashing: some kits are designed with interchangeable parts, but there is a noticeable drop in sculpt quality/design when compared to a sculpt never intended for kit-bashing. You can have top-end awesome designs, or decent designs with build flexibility. You can't have both (your lucky to find even one, some manufacturers manage neither)

If anyone has found such a holy grail of models, that has Mantic's level of customizabilty with Infinity's level of quality, I would love to hear about it. However models designs, that feature holes in the body that ease the build process, does not prevent the stubborn from producing some good looking conversions. There are many fine examples on this very forum. The added difficulty, just adds extra bragging rights.

I buy infinity models for their high quality designs/sculpts, and enjoy painting them. When I want greater customizability, to realize my personal visions, I neither kitbash, nor convert, I scratchbuild! But I won't embarrass myself, or bore the readers with examples of my scratchbuilds.

I do not subscribe to the mentality of "something been harder to do equals better or superior" if the end result is good it is a good result.

@kanluwen I do not look down on people or take jabs at GW, I state the facts as I see them and have experienced them, personally simply prefer the "correct" terminology been used on things, because to have a different name for two things it means there is significant difference between them and I showcased what that difference is.

I think you missed my point.

I could go to an official tournament and play all of my CA models as Haqqislam if I wanted to, instead of buying into Haqqislam.

Your post that I quoted was trying to make the point that they were making decisions that were trying to "increase the amount of metal you buy" and I was simply pointing out that one of the decisions they made at the exact same time was the exact opposite of what you were arguing.

I don't subscribe to it, either, but for some people it's important to show the merits of their work in comparison to others. I know that sounds a bit passive-aggressive, but when you consider that this is just basic human nature to want/need to prop yourself up in your social circle, it's more that I applaud anyone who have strength of character enough to set aside such prestige.

I do think, however, that you'll find it broadly accepted that kitbashing is a sub-activity to conversion, similar to how telemarking is a sub-activity of skiing (it's one way to skii, but there are several others which would also be skiing, and if you're feeling combative you can say snowboarding is just mono-skiing sideways and therefore skiing). A conversion might contain elements of kitbashing, greenstuffing, and even a few pieces of scratch builds. I've also seen the term "total conversion" being bandied about. Naturally, kitbashing by definition can't be applied to something that's mostly a scratch build because you don't bash to kits together, but otherwise it's all conversion work to make the model different from the original.

Regardless of people being anal retentitive about the definition of words, back to gencon? Space battles seem likely given the success of the digital battlefleet gothic games, GW having said theyre bringing back BFG mini line but CB will be faster, and it will get them an opportunity to flesh out the lore about space (combat) vessels and interplanetary travel. Plus, cover is different in space, and AROs could still work in space combat due to the long distances.

One of the recent videos asked about a space game and they just don't have the production capacity for a whole second game at the moment.

That makes me sad, I'd be mad keen for a space battles game.

I'm thinking its gonna be more of a rpg-lite dungeon crawl kind of game.

That's a real shame, for a couple reasons. One of them is that if Infinity ever blows up and dies, CB is toast. CB used to be known for some crazy-awesome 15mm historicals, and the WarCrow 28mm fantasy RPG Character range, then Infinity. And then Infinity got so big CB had to stop making all their 15mm and WarCrow ranges!

The second is that a space game would be really nice. I'm still trying to find a good space game, and I keep rolling back to Full Thrust. That's not really a new game by any stretch of the imagination, initial copyright being sometime in the early 1990s...

I could get behind that. Especially if the growing-character pieces bolt into Infinity. (Hint, hint, @Koni !!)

One of @Cypherkk 's complaints about Infinity is that it doesn't have any character development in it, like Necromunda/Mordheim/etc do. And sometimes I agree with him.

Back about 2008, my friends and I took the original N1 Quickstart Rules and bolted a skills system onto them as an actual RPG. Yes, that is the origin of Eddie, my current forum-RP character. You might want to run with fewer models per player, though. Either that or a nice webapp to keep your warband/ship crew/whatever up-to-date.

Though I can say that I'd like a simpler experience system than the Confrontation Dogs of War set, having to track which model did damage, and which gave killing blows, and stuff like that really bogged down Confrontation3 games and more or less killed the game locally.

To be fair, Full Thrust is a cracker of a game. I think I've bought and played every major starship game released over the last 15 years, and I still return to Full Thrust every chance I get.

We had a bunch of guesses when information came out that the big N was a new way, and we had a teaser saying one of our guesses were more or less spot on and since then they have openly denounced a bunch of the idea (space battle game was one such thing asked directly for one of the satellites and outright told "no").
Now, I don't keep track and I am sure this idea wasn't part of what has been aired before but; I can see there being possible room for a co-op Infinity experience with the rules primarily focused on systematic AI behaviour and scenarios.

I am going to throw my speculation hat into the ring with a drone/bike racing game. Bikes have been expanded to nearly all factions, and every faction has access to drones. The RPG core book mentions the Mars Underground Circuit, an illegal drone racing competition.

It has established lore, uses existing product lines, and is a 'new' way to play infinity. It has been mentioned as a joke before, but my tinfoil-hatted-head is getting more convinced that it is coming. I am not sure if I hope to be wrong or not . . .
