New player building up his Haqqislam army. I am wondering are the Janissaries and the Djanbazan Tactical groups models digitally sculpted or not? Are they likely to be replaced by new models in the near future? How do they perform rule wise? ~ Cheers
Both the unit boxes are digitally sculpted, Djanbazan were almost essential as they were previously Haqqs only source of MSV2 but the new book is shaking that up somewhat. Janissaries are pretty average HI with no special reason to take them but they can become worth it in Qapu Khalqi or Ramah Task Force where they can form a Fireteam. There is an older Janissary HMG blister that is also CAD sculpted but noticeably a little smaller than the ones in the box, and the soon to be discontinued Qapu Khalqi starter has an older hand sculpted Djanbazan sniper.
They weren't taken out of production in a recent decommission wave, so that's probably your answer to the second question. Djan sculpts are somewhat unlike what we are used to in Haqq, although they don't diverge too much from general modern army aesthetics Haqq sports. The only real concern with them is that Djan Doc may be a mess because in my box at least his hand+bad detail is so messed up it doesn't even look like something designed to physically fit on the model. Although some people say it soen't be this bad and there's nothing some bending couldn't fix for them. Maybe there's something wrong with my specific box, I dunno. As it was already said, the main issue with modern Jan sculpts is that Jan HMG from a blister looks somewhat smaller than the rest despite impressive gear that is supposed to be bulky (HMD, ammo, feeder). Granted, it's only "not bulky enough" by exaggerated wargame miniatures standards which usually upscales weapons somewhat. Rule-wise, Djans are still your only source of MSV2 HMG, for what it's worth, and Jan Doc is still the only Akbar Doc in the game (also great model), if you want that.
I would highly endorse both, the Akbar doctor is amazing when you run LI or anything that is multi wound heavy, and a highly resilient specialist to boot. And the jannisary pain train is such a real thing! The djans are a great buy too, one of my first purchases, and I do not regret it at all. I bring one in pretty much every game I play, and the hijinks you can get up to with an MSV 2, smoke and and HMG are disgusting, but the sniper is one of the best ARO pieces we have. Arm 6 in cover, shock immune, BS 12,(sadly “upper tier” for us until ramah gets released on army) MSV 2. I mean, just stick a doctor behind him prone to crawl over and pitch him up if he goes down and your enemy has a horrid ARO piece to try to dig out.
Yes, I forgot about that one! Quite nice as a fighty specialist too. Though he lacks the versatility of the Asawira doc in Vanilla.
For sure, just too bad (especially for for QK) that the Janissaries themselves don't have cubes. Makes me lean towards keeping the +3 to get them back on their feet than risk aiming for the 14 for that second wound. Nice to see the new ones in RTF have cubes at least.
The Akbar Doc as a combat doctor is one of the purest Haqqislam units in the game. He strikes me as the perfect representation of our faction, especially when paired with Tarik/Al Fasid/other Jans.
Sure, but as Palomides says, Haqq has a bunch of other excellent 2W troopers that do have Cubes. Including Asawiras if you're going for a single Combat Group or 400pt.
True. Absolutely. Love taking one with a Nasmat in Vanilla for Al'Fassids and the like. Just wishing there was a cubed, linkable 2-W Akbar unit.
Hi guys, I am also interested by the janissaires, does anyone has a picture of the four sculpts side by side ? If the difference is too important i will make my own hmg model :) Thanks
Honestly I never noticed too much of a scale difference in the hmg and the newer box. I think the newest hmg was late n2 so it's more in-line scale wise. Only major difference is the thicker armor on the new ones
Yeah, HMG is not really small, just noticeably skinny, especially when you compare chest armor. Then it's easy to see newer ones are slightly upscaled.
Thanks, this picture is perfect The guy seems skinnier to me thus. I like the heavy effect on the others, i’ll for a home made hmg !
I'd get them. In fact, I may need to see if I can chase down a Djan sniper separately, since I already have *all* the Janissaries. From N1 on. Skip the N2-era Jan with sword and rifle: It's from the era of 'true 28mm' minis and is absolutely tiny compared to modern minis. Works OK as an Ayyar if you GS a cloak over it, though. The N1 Jan models, if you can find them: actually scale up OK next to the new Jans, they're about the same height as the new HMG (well, a squidge shorter but bulkier). Totally within human variation. The new Jan Missile-gal is definitely from the Haqq Olympic Volleyball team, though, she is taller than the guys! I think it's close enough. Within human variation, anyway. As I said above, it's the N2-era Jan that is way too small compared to the others.
I do wonder if we'll get a new Jannisary sculpt out of this, one with just a rifle and no medgun. I know they have a SKU problem (partially self inflicted by the silly TinBot in this case), but I'd like one to fill out links and replace the old N2 guy. Would also be interested in a Jan + Hortlak pack, maybe? SMG Hort, Sniper Hort, Rifle reg and...something else? Boxes like that would help keep the SKU down. Until then, I think Patsy is going to be my Hortlak proxy.
