Hello folks Wondering where to invest next. Tossing up between a box of brawlers, box of khawarij or a Maghariba Guard. What are you thoughts on the MG now that its included in other sectorials? For the purposes of discussion: Lets assume the profile(s) will not change with the new book. The only thing different will be their availability and whatever mysterious special fireteams they can form. I know they're merely OK in Vanilla. Why take a single Maggie when you can take several of Haqqs amazing LI/SK instead? In RTF, I think they have a place. I can see the non-360 visor version being cost-effective enough to provide some solid firelane coverage and generally being a distraction while Khawarij or Mukhtarr's run around pushing buttons and flanking folks. We don't know what the truckers or aerial troops do but unless those profiles are undercosted all-stars, I think the Maggie can have a place in RTF. Both in and out of LI lists. In Dashat... I have no comments because I've never used bikes, Ariadna or YJ models so I can't tell how they'd function in that list >_> Any thoughts from you guys? Anyone more motivated to purchase a MG now after DF week?
If I had to guess its going to be the remotes but I am not sure which ones or how many. I also base this on Ramah and Foreign Company have special fireteam Maghariba and special fireteam Haqq remotes.
The Khawarij are gorgeous models, but not necessarily great profiles. From a purely hobby perspective, I think they have to be the first choice. The Maghariba may still be hard to get to the table, but I can see it working well in RTF. A core + Haris + Maggie will give three strong assault pieces to spend our orders on. It is also a beautiful model and fun to paint, although personally I find the size intimidating.
I would go for MaghaRiba. Beautiful model, great centerpiece of a collection and also nice TAG gamewise - she's not the best, but good enough and what's important, she's not that expensive. One of the cheapest main TAGs in game IIRC. I'm using her from time to time in vanilla and I'm waiting to use her in sectorial army. A nice set of rather cheap linked troops as AROing stuff and HER, the majesty, as the active hunter... I'm sold :) PozdRawiam / Greetings
I think it's a little concerning for the MG that a decent amount of people need to see what it links with before deciding. Linkable tags are amazing but a TAG should be able to stand up on its own merit. But maybe I'm being too stern with that thinking. The links could entirely change the role you play as depending on whether you're taking a specialist or a shooter or a utility up the field with the big one. In terms of the rule of cool, definitely looking at the Maggie's direction. It also has I think the only MultiHMG in Haqq not counting QK so that's also nice.
Frankly I'm just glad I'll get to use both of mine now. Probably not very often, but it's nice to have the option.
Well, I'm going to get one of the new-sculpt Maghariba Guard models, since I already have an old-sculpt one. For those that have never seen the original Maggie:
TBH I never bought and, because of this, never used old Maggie in game - I really, really didn't like the old model. But... Since they showed us the beautiful new scorpion version of mini - XPR-5 Akrep - I started proxing her and bought her as fast as I could and I'm glad I did. It's not like TAG will win you most battles. Some people say it is straight opposite, that "TAGs don't play". And she isn't the toughest one (like Yotum) or the deadliest one (like Avatar or Cutter), but she is the economical one. As I wrote before. And now, since the new REMs are out, kinda inspired by her great design, you can build a sweet army with very nice robots, both visually and gamewise. Maggie in the center with Shihab and maybe some linked Ghulams for AROs - that's the stuff. IMHO there can not be a good Haqqislam collection without her. The model is a bit intimidating, as @Palomides wrote, but it should be ;) I know I will give her some time, a lot of work, and she'll be the slightly big cherry on top of my Haqqis :) And if you're still not convinved: https://www.infinitythegame.com/blo...scorpion-design-notes-for-the-maghariba-guard ;) PozdRawiam / Greetings
My problem with Maggy is, that I have always to fear, that tables do not allow to move out of the DZ on ground level or there is only one way out and thats where her counters put their aim. On top of that, for 41/2 I get an almost as good weapon in Vanilla, with points to spare for a Hawwa and a Hunzakut. And those three bring a lot mor to the table imho. The only reason I play her is, because she looks cool. But an interesting link option in RTF could change that, although it will be tough, because she already has steep competition. Depending from where you are, I have a shop here in Vienna, that is selling the beetle for 28€. Edit: Nevermind, just saw it on your profile. Here is the link: https://www.sirengames.at/de/INFINITY:-Maghariba-Guard-(TAG)_1_12479 But sadly the delivery cost is quite high.
i have the old Maggie and might be willing to part with it. but it is built and primed. PM me Iif you are interested
Im sorry but Maggy is very useable in vanilla. She is not merely meh. She is both psychological, and physically imposing. We have the single army that is capable of having a piece trading TAG. Maggy is so cheap that you can easily put her in a list and NOT focus any strategy around her besides "Move forward and kill....but I have a couple other back ups for that." I routinely use her as bait to make my opponent go all out for her, only to find my list is not hampered in the least by her loss. I highly recommend taking her if you have not. she is a dangerous threat that cannot be ignored, but if the opponent puts time into focusing her, they are "wasting" their resources. I vote MG.
@theGricks, I absolutely accept its one hell of a distraction. TAGs sporting multi-weapons generally can't be left alone unless the terrain renders them useless (which admittedly is possible with a S10 base). However, isn't the natural counter-argument that you can buy plenty of distractions for 70-90pts which also give you more orders and more backups for your primary actors? Just playing devil's advocate so I can flesh this idea out as much as possible. The rule of cool is pulling hard at me and I just want to make sure its more than looks I'm paying such a large sum of money for.
Suppressive Fire is measured from the base's edge. There is a reason the 360º visor is so expensive for maggie! Personally, I'd get whatever fits your current needs, since you will end having all the boxes anyway. But for the cost of the Maggie, you can buy both the Khawarij and the Brawlers boxes, and have extra to spare, so that gives you extra flexibility.
