The Kiuutan Imposters bring Inferior Impersonation to the Tohaa Army. Not exactly sure what the difference is yet, but it is a new tool that we didn't have before. I'm curious how this will compare to impersonators of other armies?

Maybe Inferior Impersonation just gives -3 mod for discover rolls?

By the way a great sculpt, even if I don't like it very much, if models have a rifle but it's not shown at all.

Very curious about him, at 30 points compared to the other impersonators it'll be interesting to see if symbioarmor makes up for the loss of cc, smoke and a proper impersonation skill.

Maybe inferior impersonation is just basic but a typo? Or basic but on an alien and therefore less good against humanity armies but designed to be good against CA?

As long as it allows for the reliability in deployment that other Impersonation brings then the Kiuutan is going to be a menace. 2 wounds on a marker unit is great, and if the rules for how 'bombs and 'mates do not change then they can be given to the Kiuutan in the impersonation state. Having a 'bomb right next to some key enemy units is just mean.

Would it make sense that Inferior Impersonation would be that it only works from a certain distance or they get a big bonus to discover within so many inches? The other impetsonstors have been great at getting close and CC. Maybe the Kiuutan is ment to take some shots, get a kill from range then disappear into the shadows.

even without knowing what inferior impersonation does, its pretty obvious this troop cannot really do anything with it, unless there is a specialist or boarding shotgun option. it clearly can't kill in cc, and it isn't good at shooting, so i dunno why you'd wanna pay 30+ points for it other than novelty

A Submachinegun (B3, shock/AP ammo) going at 15, with Surprise Shot and the chance to survive retliation, and then transform into a roadblock difficult to remove thanks to Supression Fire and Hyper-Dynamics... yes, good unit, I llike it.

For Vailla, the Combi profile is not so good, it's like they made it waaaaay worse on purpose. Still, I'll use it frequently.

the vanilla option is crap. like just a waste of points. the e/mauler version is nice. i mean, its clear they want people to drop vanilla and go into spiral, i think personal preference will define what people prefer.

    Waste of points?
The standard Combi Rifle is enough to kill most LI and cripple the oponent's list. Just the fear of you using it will change the way people deploys against Tohaa.

yes a bs 12 combi rifle guy is not great. i guess you can put a symbiomate on it, and have it kill a troop or two? seems like bad tactics to me. like, you invest 30 points in a model that is alone on the other side, and hope it can kill at least three units. so, you have to go first for that to even have a chance. if you do succeed, all you have done is strip three orders from your opponent, at the cost of at least three orders from yourself. the good thing about tohaa is the triads; you bring a unit across the table with extra units, and you can do objectives as you cross, and you can end yer turn with defensible units in their dz that they have to deal with. specifically here im talking about a sukeul/makaul/x triad here.

You start right next to the enemy, so it'll be easy to find an attack vector where you ignore cover. Also, you are getting Surprise Shot.
That BS12 can be pretty deadly.

And those three dead enemy troopers can be its Lieutenant, a Doctor and a Hacker, for example.

if you are playing people who deploy their lt standing next to 2 other specialists i don't think any troop choices you make can be bad. this troop is not going to have a chance vs a 5 person fireteam. holding this as your reserve troop and going first, you have a chance to kill a lt that someone put in a bad spot. but basically this is one of those guys that really shines when your opponent plays poorly, which i would consider a bad choice. because if you get used to playing against people playing poorly, you won't be prepared for actual challenges.

as an aside, i think the viral pistol on this guy is actually interesting. might be good to use for the first shot coming out of marker state?

I think the mistake is thinking of this as a dedicated assassin unit ala speculo or a fiday. I'm thinking it's more like a superior infiltrating camo unit with close range shooting for zone control. Sure, if you see a line to take him in their backfield and kill a few mooks, go for it. But if they're covering up their LT in a big fireteam, you put it prone on top of a building just outside their deployment zone to deny them advancement or force them to come root it out. You park it at an angle that can see a button they want to press. Lot's of fun ways to use it I think.

I would have liked the smg option in vanilla but I think its one of the new profiles most likely to see play in Tohaa as it does something unique.
At that price point its fine for it not to be hunting the big stuff, the issue with the big impersonators Oniwaban is that they are a lot less effective if your opponent hasn't got one big juicy target for them to kill.

So Inferior Impersonation is basically camo without a negative mod on discover rolls combined with Infiltration (automatically passing the PH roll). I had hoped for some ruling similar to Inferior Infiltration or Inferior Combat Jump, just having a -3 mod on the WIP roll, but still deploying in IMP-1 state. Deploying in IMP-2 state is a really big drawback.
Additionally having only one single (very boring) loadout in Vanilla is a big letdown for me.
Nevertheless having a marker model with Symbiont armor able to deploy very near to the enemy can be handy especially with a symbiobomb.

They are a marker not a trooper though so can they get a bomb? To that end can you choose to deploy as a model so you can assign a mate/bomb to them but still deploy outside the DZ?
