I recently played Deadly Dance with IA against a Shock Army of Aconticimento list running two Tikbalangs Despite a lucky initial assigned quadrant resulting in my opponents two TAGs STARTING in it I managed to pull a win without fielding a TAG myself. Apart from the fireteam that malleted anything that stepped into view and then advanced to dominate my quadrant, I used a Zhencha, Hulang, and Liu Xing assault hacker. In my first few orders I managed to walk on the Liu Xing, Overlord one of the TAGs, then flame everything in sight. It actually turned out to do very little due to my opponent's incredible dodge rolls but it really demonstrated the potential a well placed drop troop hacker can have in this mission. The Hulang was my intended TAG hunter but ended up dying due to a well placed Naga and so the Zhencha did a lot of heavy lifting.
Yeah this is the main reason this mission is an awful mess. Not commenting on the Liu Xing specifically, but normally the TAGs should be positioned to be protected by KHDs in this case Nagas to stop that exact thing from happening easiler. But given your opponent was running a bit of a meme list with 2 Tiks he probably didn't have the spare points to set up properly. Also template weapons have a very very low success rate against models, even those with poor PH, when they dodge. When your opponent declares dodge as an ARO you need to contest it with dice from a gun.
As you've already noted, it was more a fun experiment of a list between friends than a serious match. Even then, he nearly won. Two TAGs are terrifying, regardless of vulnerabilities. And I agree, the mission is a mess, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it, specifically for the challenge it presented. While I agree templates are not an ideal active turn weapon, I was using them to engage multiple targets with mimetism, cover, and through jungle terrain (saturation/low visibility). I thought it was the better option but, alas, the dice gods disagreed
Thanks for sharing, do you mind if I ask you what your Fireteam consisted of? I'm assuming it was a Zuyong team, but I'd like to know because I haven't considered it for the mission (because I value troops that can go into marker state highly).
Gotta love the Zhencha and there is nothing like the terror on an opponents face when the Hac Tao starts going! I find I almost always run: Zuyong HMG (TA) Tai Sheng Breaker + TinBot B (NCO) Haidao MSR Son-Bae ML (never usually the smart ML version because of that EXP) Pangguling Fuelled by the Daoying hacker Lt L2 and Tactical Awareness, this link always does well for me. As you've intimated it's quite expensive but I just can't bring myself to run Zhanshi in the HI sectorial!
It was better than shooting with the HMG in this case because of the saturation zone but still pretty bad odds. Bagh Mari dodging on PH 8 for low vis has a 64% chance to live. Need to maneuver to a better firing position.
That's pretty much what I run when deploying a Pain Train, and the Breaker can be quite good against TAGs I believe. I was thinking about fielding the Son-Bae SML + Haidao in the Zhanshi link to free up points for a Hac Tao, but maybe is a bit too cute?
Last tournament I managed to snag a spot in I ran a list called Tai Sheng that was essentially that. Tai Sheng, naturally, was the only model to die in all three matches. I'm trying really hard to make lists that isn't that, but oh boy does this sectorial not like being constructed otherwise.
I've been writing up a campaign of narrative BatReps since starting and weirdly she's been the only model, other than my Daoying, that's never died or even gone unconscious in 9 battles. Yeah. This. It's frustrating as I'd love to play around with the Yan Huo Haris and other unit combinations but it's just not worth it.
Haha Tai Sheng single handedly took out a Dragao a few games ago with her breaker rifle so it's definitely possible! Definitely a viable link for freeing up points but I just love how durable having the Zuyongs in the link is.
I have several doubts now, since I saw my half-way-painted Yan Huo HMC model and realized I wasn't really considering it. Those B5 AP dmg 15 rounds cut things in half. Plus, It can be the Datatracker and take advantage of that sweet extra order. Dammit, all these cool toys are annoying me!
And those are very good stories to read! Shameless plug: https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/the-twin-dragons-an-ia-battle-report-and-story-blog.26725/
Do you guys think this is acceptable? A list ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 HAC TAO HMG, Nanopulser / Pistol, DA CCW. (2 | 68) MÓWÁNG (Lieutenant) Red Fury, Akrylat-Kanone / Heavy Pistol, Knife. (0 | 50) HÚLÁNG (Fireteam: Duo) Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower, E/M Grenades, D-Charges / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Knife. (0 | 44) ZHĒNCHÁ (Forward Observer) Submachine Gun, D.E.P., Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 34) HǍIDÀO (Multispectral Visor L2) MULTI Sniper / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) ZHANSHI Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) PANGGULING (Minesweeper, Repeater) Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) 5.5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army Hulang for TAG slaying duty Defensive link Zhencha for DEP ARO and controlling squares HOT Tao for murdering and controlling squares Mowang DT big dude (I could take the LFT from the Hulang and make the Panggu another Zhanshi to re-make the link and bait a fake Lt.)
Hulang is kinda squishy, but it's the option we have for a monosword. I'd try to speculative EM the TAG first, then murder it with the monosword later.
I like it, however, the NCO is not private info so the Mowang is the LT for anyone who takes two seconds to look it up in Army.
I think it's there to save SWC, not to be sneaky. It probably won't survive most attempts on it, yeah.
This version is better and makes your list less weaker to assassins, also an extra specialist. hjdghjhgd ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 HAC TAO (Executive Order) HMG, Nanopulser / Pistol, DA CCW. It's a comment on the last line which mentions putting another Zhanshi Combi in there as fake LT when a somewhat astute opponent will immediately see there can only be one LT in the list.
I thought NCO was private info but it does show on the courtesy list  Oh well, in that case it might be better to just make a fireteam Zhanshi the Lt. and grab an NCO profile for the Mowang. Thank you for the heads up @Mahtamori
