I'm building a list that I intend to experiment with, but I'm contemplating a unit swap out. I'll post both versions of the list so that you can understand the question. The principal role for either would be attacking a held objective in transmission matrix. Obviously, the BM puts out higher quality shots at range, but the Guarda is tougher, and shootier up close. Thoughts?
I'm a pretty outspoken critic of the Bagh Mari Haris. I think there's some usefulness there, especially with the new Machinist, but often times I see it as overpaying just to add +1 Burst to an HMG. That being said, I'm also pretty critical of the GdA. My personal inclination here is to dump either the spare Bagh Mari or the GdA, then fold those points into 3 Fugazi and an attack REM. The lists you have are functional though, plenty of good meat in there. I'd be inclined to go with the second one.
I hear that. I find the lone HMG to be a competent gunfighter, so the prospect of towing a specialist and backup with him is intriguing. I'm really just trying to play more with the GDA, as he was a popular choice in N2 for me. Truthfully, I'd prefer to just put my Montessa spitfire in and be done with it, but Alas poor Montessa. I knew him, Horatio.
Given that each scoring area is inside a larger repeater area I'd personally lean away from any HI for that use. THat said, I'm not a SAA player,
I would try to look into removing the spitfire from the link and giving it to your akalis. The way your teams are setup are fairly defensive and it can be hard to utilize an offensive piece with a defensive sniper in the same team. It also increases the number of possible Lts you have which can be critical at stopping assassins wandering through your dz. The spitfire on the akal also gives a number of new attack vectors to you that the combi or shotgun cannot. The emitter is a really swingy weapon too. Great when you show up behind a TAG and hit, but otherwise dart's em should do nicely.
The GdA is very swingy and relies on terrain a fair amount. His smoke only goes down on a 13 at best and his weapons can make him feel weedy for his points either being outraged with the multi rifle or that he's not hitting hard enough with the spitfire. He's also highly susceptible to mods and gives none in return.
Yeah, I'm a fan of the spitfire in the regular link for one primary reason. Once the sniper dies (which will happen in the first turn, if she does her job drawing fire) the team is then mobile for midfield duty. They're also my backup for objectives in supplies, if the nagas run into trouble. Conversely, I've had little to no luck with the Akal spitfire, and am really just using the combi as last ditch threat to recover or neutralize an enemy carrying a supplies box.
I've had good work from the Bagh-Mari Haris so far (HMG+Machinist+Haris). But I still wonder if I couldn't get more mileage out of my points elsewhere.
List 1: why not just fill out the Bagh Mari core and let it do the work? Right now you're dumping a lot of points in buffing the one sniper, you might as well just drop the Guarda and get yourself a Bagh Mari HMG to take advantage of the link bonus in the active turn -- you'll want to be spending midfield orders on things already there (Dart and Nagas) rather than use them on the GdA. List 2 is closer, but again, I'd skip the Haris to get that HMG in the core anyway. Altogether I'm a bigger fan of the combat group in this one. I think you are doing yourself a disservice by not taking advantage of ASAs REM setup though -- the Pathfinder and Fugazi are really efficient for what they do, and every list can use a bulleteer. Hell, half the time when I play ASA my group 2 is just those 5 units and maybe a warcor.
It’s funny. I’ve been playing Shock Army for 7 years. I have never, not once, fielded a bulleteer. I don’t even have the model. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I see 3 “mobile hitters” choices that fit into similar cost opportunities. GDA Bagh Mari Haris Bulleteer with Regular hacker. I’m interested in trialing what situations the 3 would excel in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Depends on your table layout. When I'm looking to your lists, it seems to me you haven't a very dense terrain. And in this case, the TR bot could be the better choice over the bulleteer.
I could see how you’d get to that conclusion, but we usually build pretty balanced tables. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You're missing out! The Bulleteer is insanely effective, point for point. 6-4 ODD BS12. That's as good a shot as a Myrmidon spitfire (or better if you buff it) with faster movement for 8 points less. And you don't need to take the regular hacker every time, honestly. BS12+ODD should win most fights. I've taken the EVO hacker before as well, that way you can overclock your bots if you go second, buff your Bulleteer if you go first, and it makes your Akalis much better to hotdrop (though still only worth the risk for a very, very juicy target.)
