I'm pretty much in the same boat – I haven't played the blizzard force lists but given the option I'm not sure I would take him, granted there are other decent specialists/hackers in the army. He pays too much for stuff he doesn't need. I'm content with the Paramedic as my team specialist

If they exist I'd expect them to pick up BTS3.

Assuming they get a bump to ~13 points to make the OS equivalent, you could easily take a Fusilier base with BTS 3, Mountain Terrain and CH:Mimetism.
I'd expect non-combi profiles would feature Marksman rifles, Panzerfausts, x-visors, maybe an MSV 1 on a single profile.
Forward observer would be the only specialist.

Given the Knights Hospitaler presence, I'd expect the Sval Trauma doc to get the sectorial specific profile.

13 points is cheap for BS 12 Mimetism

So you'd think, but Nisse and Guilang don't have BTS.

I know, but don't we all agree that's strange?

Yes. But until Nisse (and Guilang) get some BTS, the basic "Sval Regulars" shouldn't get BTS, either.

Not really, Fusiliers are BS 12 and only 10 points for the basic combi profile. CH:Mimetism is a 2 point upgrade, just look at Moblots (Mimetism profile is 2 points more than the base) or compare Tiger Soldiers with Akali (account for the Tiger's PH and WIP and the Akal's EM CCW and you're left with a 2 point difference).

@Section9, sure, but to make 13 points requires some upgrade, somewhere, and while mines or drop bears on all profiles would be nice, BTS is the sort of thing we'd expect even if Nisse and Guilang miss it.

To keep it thematic, I think it would be interesting if this Sval line troop got +1 ARM over the Fusilier and no BTS increase. High BTS is for Varuna and the Kamau rocking BTS6.

    Interesting Question:
Which stat/attribute helps against severe cold?

Against heat (Fire) you have to roll ARM, but that is just a short-term exposure.

From the description BTS seems to fit better, as you need a life support system to withstand long-term exposure to extreme temperatures.

But Nisses have a BTS of 0.

In the RPG, a Vac Suit does not provide any armor (unless incorporated into some combat armor), but provides a BTS bonus.
    Same with a survival pod.

I'm not sure arguing from the RPG to the Wargame is valid at the moment.

But I disagree that the anomaly of the Nisse and Guilang BTS 0 should prevent other units from being designed well.

Are we sure we want to aim for a 13pt basic Core Link fodder? Acon Regulars are still 10pts.

If we do bump up to greater-than-Fusilier costs, I'd consider adding MSV1 to the "Sval Regulars."

MSV1 and BTS3 is a more interesting package, which produces more variety, than the other options which have been suggested.

Don't forget that there should also be Mountain Terrain on them, plus probably Marksman Rifles instead of Combis (arctic/mountains having lots of long sightlines, usually). So basically Briscards, but with a PanO/YJ twist.

Bts 3 instead of arm 1 for the grunts?

Well, assuming MMR are only 1 point more than a combi (Thorakite), you could forgo the BTS in favour of that.
So Fusilier profile, CH:Mimetism, Mountain and a MMR for 13 points (or a Shock MMR for 15).

The Sval CBLs all used OS as their fillers, and I recall at the time there were some rumours of them being placeholders for a different LI yet to be seen, so hence my assumption of 13 point base. That and vanilla gets enough love not to need yet another ultra-cheap cheerleader that can win most gunfights, even more betterer!

I don't think that there is a hope in hell of getting Marksman Rifles as standard weapons on our line infantry.

But Mountain Terrain is, in fact, likely a given.

Single terrain skills like that don't usually cost anything 'though.

I was trying to find if Svalarheima CBL lists still exist and I found this thread? Any of you know if they are valid anymore?

MMR and Mimetism on a BS12 line trooper strikes me as the best itemized unit... Ever.

One of the reasons that Mimetism, Camo, SMGs, can remain cheap without completely breaking everything is because CB restricts how frequently these rules are given out. If they do give the out, they often bundle them with more expensive rules (+Close Combat values on troops not intended with CC) to keep the point cost reasonable. Even the Spetsnaz, one of the best units in the game, still ended up with some fairly extraneous CC abilities, just to keep its HMG profile close to 40 points.
