Thing is that a MSV ARO piece is just something that is begging to be taken out by a HMG or such. No mods make it pretty easy to remove. The kamau actually kills that vulnerability because of mimetism AND the link. It makes it resilient to the most common ways to remove a ARO piece. You need BS 15 + B5 in order to have more chance of wounding it than the opposite (IE: to brute force it), you cannot use smoke to simply ignore it, you can't rely on camo + cover + surprise shot giving it a -9 and you can't really outrange a sniper rifle. The rest of the link is still vulnerable, but the kamau itself don't have a easy solution before the link gets broken down. I personally do not think that VIRD is a problem in general. There are good stuff? Yes. But the only thing that really is outstanding is that linked Kamau. And the link falls easily.
The change to Marksmanship LX actually works pretty well as a counter. Teucer with a Feuerbach and that is solid and almost certain to get a second order even if it doesn't go well at first. Active Player 56.02% Teucer (MSV 2) inflicts 1 or more wounds on Kamau Amphibious Intervention Teams (MSV 2) (Unconscious) 30.02% Teucer (MSV 2) inflicts 2 or more wounds on Kamau Amphibious Intervention Teams (MSV 2) (Dead) Failures 20.85% Neither player succeeds Reactive Player 23.13% Kamau Amphibious Intervention Teams (MSV 2) inflicts 1 or more wounds on Teucer (MSV 2) (0 W) 3.02% Kamau Amphibious Intervention Teams (MSV 2) inflicts 2 or more wounds on Teucer (MSV 2) (Dead) Active Model Base BS of 14 MSV ignores CH modifier Range grants +3 BS Additional modifier grants +6 BS Net BS is 23 Reactive Model Base BS of 13 Cover grants -3 BS Cover grants opponent +3 ARM Link Team grants +3 BS Range grants +3 BS Link Team grants +1 B Net BS is 16
I've also a feeling that the linked MSV Kamau will result in people remembering that Coordinated Orders can be used for BS Attacks as well as movement.
And the wording on the new MMLX seems to imply you could use it in a BS attack Coord order, provided it was done as an entire order. MARKSMANSHIP LEVEL X ENTIRE ORDER Attack, Optional REQUIREMENTS The user may only benefit from this Special Skill when he declares a BS Attack. This Special Skill is only usable in Active Turn. The user must be using a BS Weapon with a B value of 2 or more on its profile. EFFECTS This Special Skill reduces the B value of his weapon to 1, and in return apply to that single shot a +6 BS MOD. These MODs are stackable with any other applicable MODs. In the same way, in this single BS Attack, the users ignore all the MODs provided by Partial Cover: they don't apply the MOD to their BS Attribute, and their targets cannot apply the MOD to their ARM Attribute. Marksmanship Level X does not include any other Levels of the Marksmanship Special Skill. Edit: This is taken from the wiki. New Rules PDF doesn't have that first bullet point. I don't have my 3O handy to check there.
Your numbers or the Dice calculator have a mistake somewhere. DA is the best ammo type for the Kamau to use against Teucer and there is no way it's 23%->3% for the second wound with DA. Correct Numbers for the Kamau are 27.75% Kamau Amphibious Intervention Teams (MSV 2) inflicts 1 or more wounds on Teucer (MSV 2) (0 W) 13.64% Kamau Amphibious Intervention Teams (MSV 2) inflicts 2 or more wounds on Teucer (MSV 2) (Dead) To maximise survival the Kamau could also opt for Stun ammo. Regardless of that, Teucer is one of the better contenders to brute force a Kamau Sniper. Your numbers for Teucer are oddly enough correct. Totally forgot to even check the ammo type on the Kamau, so the variance would just be from that. Teucer wouldn't change as landing the shots on his end doesn't change.
You got to get him in position to long skill shoot first though right. The dice calculator doesn't really reflect how things work on the table quite often.
Don't know about you, but if I knew I was facing Varuna he would be my reserve for that exact reason.
And what about when they deploy him with no LOF into your deployment (eg with a long lateral one, or they hold him to use in later turns). The game is too complicated to rely on single solutions theory crafted on the internet or the dice calc. They're good tools ofc, I'm just saying there's a lot more to it.
Then the Kamau isn't blocking paths that I can use for other troop movements and isn't as much of an issue.
