Show Me You Wu Ming Pain Train list

    Hey Guys,

    Still a newbie and still asking a load of questions :) I recently aquired some Wu Ming along with the HML solo blister...Would any of you be willing ot share your Wu Ming pain train lists and explain a bit how you run them?

    I am very new to ISS and so far have only abused the Rui Shi, Hsien and Crane. I would very much like to use the Wu ming for tha variety in weapon they bring but also to see what is this Pain train I have been reading about.

    Just as a general primer:
    • The HMG is what'll allow you to move forward.
    • Never field a team without the Tinbot profile, unless you know you're facing Ariadna or Tohaa.
    • Luckily you don't get to choose between Doctor or Engineer, unfortunately the Sophotect is expensive. You'll probably appreciate that Engineer, though, to keep the fireteam from getting stuck.
    • Consider whether you need a specialist for the mission. A Zhanying hacker is VERY popular (I'm hipster special and prefer Zhanying Sensor with MadTrap or a 5th Wu Ming)
    • Try to avoid having a Haris at the same time
    • Strongly consider making room for Lunah with your remaining points.
    • You'll probably have to choose between Multi Rifle + Light Grenade and the Heavy Rocket Launcher, and whichever you choose it'll be the other one you need.
    • Don't ARO. This is not a defensive fireteam. Hide and make use of their high ARM and huge number of shotguns to creat a no-go zone.
    • Remember that war criminals and worthless peasants don't get cubes, and thus no doctor re-roll. These are war criminals.

    Basically, you have one group worth of orders to wreak havoc with the wu-ming, and another for the rui-shi. Don't overextend the wu-mings, always try to have a bunch of kuang-shis between them and your opponent it'll help keep them safe.

    My personal preference is a full Wu Ming team, no Zhanying. HMG, FO BSG, Chain Rifle and then is up to whatever you need for the mission specifically. Like @Mahtamori said, not having Cubes suck, and it makes me think twice before fielding the Sopho. I try to sprinkle a KSCD and 4 Kuang Shi to make a themed Fun Criminals List. And since you are bringing smoke, Rui Shi is a nice addition too:

    I added the Zhanying HMG Lt. just because maybe you could use it to re-form the link if one of the criminals kicks the bucket. Is not a refined list by any means, I mean, you don't even have a HD to buff the Rui Shi, but it goes to show how easy it is to go 18+ orders with ISS no matter what you want to build arround :shrug:

    If no hacking then this. You'd be surprised how good the Madtraps can be just for intimidation alone. The nimbus is not bad in combo with the HMG too. Actually if you don't care about hacking as much this is still a great link.

    The tournament in question had 2 missions where I got the baggage bonus so I might consider switching them out if that wasn't the case. Other than that you have 3 potential core teams so that you can get double smoke early or a stronger perimeter defence against aggressive enemies. You've got a doc/engineer to fix the wu ming or rems (though remember the wu ming don't have cubes so no rerolls). You've also got a hacker in your link team along with tinbot defence making them a very effective method of removing any hacking threats to allow your pain train to advance. Standard buffed rui shi with smoke is your secondary attack vector from group 2.

    It's very brute force and in a world of kamau snipers may not perform as well but I think you're likely to hit that with any pain train list unfortunately.

    This is mine. I prefer the Zhanying madtrap + sensor, he gives a lot of tools to the pain train for active or reactive(tools i miss in IA). Against hacker we have a hidden deployment ninja with help of the EVO hacker (coordined orders + clidoscope program etc).

    The rest is in the line of the others, Rui Shi as a secondary attack piece, or like hard TO /CAMO ARO hunter (noctifer, posthumans).

    I prefer to don't pick the sotophect beacuse she is too expensive. Even if is a good specialist i don't find worth his cost just to heal Wu Mings without cube. The main issue could be if you lose the rui shi fast and you have to attack something strong with ODD or TO.

    And an advice: for my expirience short range push with the Wu Mings is a alternative solution. Probably Wu Mings are one of the pain train with more anti overextend tools (templates Madtraps) . And don't be afraid of using the chain rifle Wu Ming to make a secuerity zone against the tipical midtable mimetism troop with shotgun or in supp fire. The chain Wu Ming can "tank a few shots" killing a meance for all the team, and always worth that wasting orders in a front to front roll.

    Too expensive SWC wise sadly. If you go for the HMG and HRL in the team you don't have enough SWC left to get a rui-shi (which compliments the wu-mings really well) on top of the mandatory support like tin-bot (0.5), smoke launchers(0.5 or 1 if you want to split your kuang-shis) and hacker(0.5) to buff the rui-shi.

    In my opinion, the HRL is a great addition and the team itself will make smoke shenanigans too inefficient to rely on (put bluntly, BS 11 sucks). If you want to go Rui Shi, commit to it and don't use Wu Ming.

    Lu Duan is an acceptable replacement and so is Dakini or Garuda, none of which requires supportware to run (you kind of want Fairy Dust), even if they are all massively improved by it.
    In fact, Lu Duan as Rui Shi shenanigans is viable and can be used to hide a Garuda better (Garuda Spitfire + Lu Duan is same price as Rui Shi + Ninja KHD, and same number of models, but vastly different threat angles)

    The true sacrifice is Lunah-less, but with an okay long range replacement should the HMG go down (a BSG is a teeny bit short ranged if the HMG falls...) and a possible Garuda flank, it should be okay.

    Don't underestimate what circular templates does to enemy positioning! However, in the current evolving meta, you'll probably not want to leave the Light Grenade Launcher at home anymore.

    I tend to actually neglect the HMG entirely in favour of the HRL profile.

    Replace the Zhanying with the hacker variant if you need a specialist, or feel you'll be going up against enemies vulnerable to hacking.

    While the HMG is certainly a dominant weapon, the Wu Ming's eclectic armoury makes it unnecessary in my opinion. Between the best spec fire in the game and all those templates to be thrown around, the pain train should have no trouble keeping out of a fair fight.

    With all of the Kuang Shi all in one group, were they actually useful?

    Have you used the Nimbus LGL?

    If necessary you can juggle fireteams a bit to keep KS from immediately suiciding, but that means gambling on not needing them. Important question in ISS is "how are doors and do I want to lock the KS up to preserve orders?"

    Whoops, I made that wrong. Drop one kuang shi off group 2 to make the nimbus a real LGL.

    The kuang shi are to make up for the fact that the only ARO is the HRL, and in going first they let me micro the Rui Shi.
