I don't see this posted here yet: https://www.aristeiathegame.com/blog/item/619-new-projects-in-development What I got from the article (expands on what V told us in another thread): First Expansion: Two unruly brothers - emphasis on "bang." I assume use of heavy weapons, grenades, or bombs of some sort. Completed Second Expansion: Two girls with emphasis on game control. Completed Third/Fourth Expansion: WIP with emphasis to offer different playstyle. Teased "faction tournament" with Yu Jing faction being the first to have 4 Aristos. Teased Scenarios: "Multi, Base, Turret, and Spherical Hexadome" End of the 2019, two new general card decks. Making a total of 3 general card decks to choose from. That should give a lot more variety to gameplay. New Hexadome - WIP with focus on where the Blocked Spaces are placed.
Hope that "samurais with bunny ears" was a joke. Don't want my dear musashi girl to be a mockup skin xD
Let's summarize: First 2019 Expansion: Two brothers with a lot of "Crash!", "Boom!"... but no heavy weapons. Second 2019 Expansion: Two girls with new mechanics. One of them... wow, she really kicks the meta. Late 2019: New char completes the "Yu Jing Team". "Multi, Base, Turret, and Spherical Hexadome"... they are words related to current work. So, some of them will be published and some of them, will not. (The article says "maybe"). Two new General decks. New HexaDome - new design (which means Blocked Spaces rearranged and a new look).
I think the scenarios are cool and all... but I really think the only way this game is really going to take off is by having a core 3 that are the same in every tournament.... having all the modes in tournaments confuses people. I hope you plan to take a core set of modes and stick to them. Nearly every person in my play group thinks so. Assault Scorched earth King of the hill Or something
Do you mean that we select the scenarios and the mods so every tournament to have the same structure?
I disagree, I think variety makes for a better and more diverse environment in competitive meta and that's something CB got right. Restricting it with certain fixed mods and scenarios across the board would stiff the strategies and lean the game towards a "solved" meta, not to mention, you'd lose players that don't want to play certain scenarios. Leaving the choice to the tournament organizers to handle and adapt their tournaments to their own meta is the best course of action, every place is different and have different needs. Although this all is a bit offtopic.
Not off topic as they add even more scenarios, but seriously, having 10+ scenarios for an organizer to choose from is just ridiculous. the very first tournament that me or my group are forced to play "Human Target" we are all done with this game. each season needs to be limited to 5-6 different scenarios maximum. I'm not practicing 15 different scenarios with 5 different teams. I have over 30 plays in Aristeia, which i'm sure is more than most and i'm still learning characters and techniques for just Assault and Scorched earth. I can also tell you in both of the tournaments i've played in even the friggin organizers didn't know how to play one of the scenarios.. information overload is a serious problem with this game, and the scenarios is the #1 reason.
IMO, the quickest solution is talk directly to the organizers on how your group prefers the tournaments to be played: limited scenario options. From my experience with the MOBA - League of Legends. There are various formats that had been offered to play the game. 5vs5 Summoner Rift, 3vs3, Dominion (removed as regular game mode), Showdown. For the most serious gamers its always 5vs5 Summoner Rift that is used for competitive events. So I can see value of limiting the scenarios for serious competitive events. However, I think with Aristeia! being just a year or so old, more scenarios provide variety for larger audience and not just those interested in competitive events. If Aristeia community continues to grow toward the very serious competition, having a very strict/limited structure on scenarios/mods for Standard AGL Tournament format might be a good direction to take; while leaving the multitude of Corvus Belli/homebrew scenarios for Open AGL Tournaments. For me personally, if I really want to play a serious competitive game, I will look toward video games, like League of Legends, or physical sports. For a more stress-free yet still competitive gaming, I will go to table top games.
Also need to realize that LoL started with just 5v5 and came from the original DOTA 5v5, so the others are just fun options. Anyone can obviously play whatever they want at home but i dont think you will get serious tournament players ever without a META, and i think you are also pushing people away. This game can never become a big tournament game unless the tournament scenarios are solidified. how insane is it to not know what mode is going to be played and not be able to practice. let alone having people have NO IDEA how to play the random scenario you select. i would say 90% of Aristeia games are played either Scorched earth or Assault... Make this easy for everyone and pic 3 standard tournament modes. all of these other modes are basically "Mods" yes its cool to have alot of options. but seriously, for competitive or tournament play the vast majority want a standard.
Have you considered that Corvus Belli already run a successful tournament system for Infinity that features 20+ scenerios and multiple game modes? I'm not sure why you think people won't be able to practice or know what scenarios are going to be involved, they would be announced before the tournament to give people time to practice and prepare, just like in Infinity.
Mmmmm, I will say that I when I play a tournament normally the rules and the scenarios are revealed some days or even weeks before. So normally I have plenty of time to decide the team and to practice the scenarios. And normally I prefer to play scenarios that I never played before, because this push me to my limits. Doesn't Yu Jing already have 4 Aristos? It's before Uprising, so Mushashi, Taowu, Bixie and Kozmo would make a Yu Jing team. Unless Mushashi doesn't count. PanO definitely has a full team, with Max, Gata, Dart and Mendoza. Not a bad team at that! Prysm is also PanO, but I can't imagine a "PanO" team without Maximus, unless it was specifically an Acontecimento one. Nomads team would be funny, with Massacre, Hexxer, 8-Ball and Laxmee. All control, little punch. Ariadna and Haqq are clearly not represented.
I kinda counted Mercs as their own thing, though mostly because I wasn't sure where Hannibal hails from.
