Something that's crossed my mind since lately I've been actually making rolls for Infiltration with Guilangs. Do you: Place all Guilangs (assuming all are deploying during the same phase) then roll for each of them Place each Guilang and roll for it one by one allowing me to hedge my bets if there's an opening that I want to exploit with one of them if the first succeeds, allowing the second to be placed somewhere else without a roll.
Apparently I was also on the wrong page when I posted this it was supposed to go in the rules forum @psychoticstorm feel free to move this to where it should be.
In general, Infinity's deployment phase is a bit unstructured and underdefined. The infiltration rules say: Option B: During his Deployment Phase, the user may deploy anywhere in his opponent's half of the game table except the enemy Deployment Zone. To do that, the user must attempt an Infiltration Roll (Normal PH-3 Roll). I've always read that as making the roll as soon as you place the model. However, Booty was FAQed to not take place until the very end of the deployment phase despite saying "Immediately after placing each of your troopers", so your guess is as good as mine.
Yeah essentially that was what I was wondering, if the deployment phase is essentially being treated as a simultaneous event rather than sequential.
It gets even weirder when you include AI Beacons deploying via Combat Jump during the deployment phase.
That's a really good point too, that matters. I see opponents placing them, failing, then replacing the failed one with another in the exact same spot. If it's supposed to be simultaneous they can't sit on the exact same spot.
But on the other hand, it would really change how most people play if instead you both deployed everything where you wanted it, and didn't make any of the rolls until after all deployment was completed.
For the record, we have been doing deployment rolls per-model, fully resolving each before deploying the next model.
While my meta has also been rolling on placement, making infiltration rolls at the end of the deployment phase would explain the need to record the intended location of Infiltrated Hidden Deployed troops before it is known whether the infiltration attempt was successful, otherwise you could just roll first and save the effort of getting out the camera.
It's about having to reveal your intentions to your opponent. If you fail, your opponent will know where you wanted to place your model.
That's kinda like the process for Combat Jumping, though: you place a marker (used to be template, now it's the model) where you want to drop, roll PH (or hack transport), then place model at actual location. The difference is that there are no AROs. Honestly, asking your opponent to turn around because you may have Hidden Deployment to resolve isn't hard, once they turn around or walk away from the table to get a beverage you: place model at intended location, roll PH (with die real close to intended location, so one picture shows both die roll and location), take a picture (and roll a die and take a picture several times, so the opponent hears the die rolls and camera shutter-clicks regardless of whether you actually have Hidden Deployments, Infiltrated HD, or nothing at all ), then say "I'm done now, thank you" and get on with the game. I'd do my Hidden deployment as the last regular deployment, before reserves, just to
Except the dice roll has to be done in front of your opponent declaring why you roll and give them the chance to inspect the dice result before the dice are removed when playing by published rules.
My group has alway done any rolls as we put out the figure. If it fails you can set up accordingly. Then the next and so on.
Can you not make a list of your HD troops (and maybe some empty decoy lines), bend it over to hide the troop names, then roll in front of your opponent, and note the rolls? The he/she has to turn around for your HD placement... This way the rolls are public, but they don't spoil your intentions.
I kinda like the idea of placing everything and the resolving at the end of the phase, but it is cleaner to just do it on the spot, model by model.
You still have to tell them why you're rolling (E.G. I'm rolling to infiltrate a trooper in HD past the centre line), although you only tell them if the result was pass/fail not the stat you were rolling against, just like the initiative roll.
I think the requirement to simultaneously place G:Synch controllers and the controllee, Post Human Proxies, Antipode packs, etc suggests that deployment happens on a per trooper basis, rather than the entire list deploying at once. EDIT: Antipode actually doesn't explicitly require they be deployed simultaneously. But this line: implies that the Antipodes and controller be placed all at once.
