Need help Playing ISS

    Hey Guys,

    New to the game and while I was expecting to have to lose a lot while learning the game, I feel there are some major point lacking in my lists. For starter, there is a huge lack of ARO pieces and that is quite a problem. I do not feel like ISS has a lot of good ARO pieces (might be wrong on that)....

    THe Celestial guard with sniper rifle looks pretty good in a link tema but the 1.5 SWC turns me off....the only other piece I can see is the total reaction bot....Need help in that area. What Am I not seing?

    I am also looking for a strong core list that i can switch some part of it depending on the mission. I have tried the hsien in Haris which was very good, I have tried the Crane in a core fireteam and it was also very good. I tried the 8 kuang shi thing and that was more difficult than expected and can have you order count fall apart very fast.

    The Goal is to have a core to a list that I can practice over and over again in order to become better at this game. Changing my list every game does not help me. And while I understand that every mission requires different lists, I can still have a solid core (not the fireteam) of a list that is the base of all my lists.

    I have pretty much everything needed to play ISS and If I do not have it, I will get it.


    Please show me the core of your most solid list and how you like to play them.....I need help being more competitive at this game.

    ISS is one of the worst factions for ARO, if not the worst, which isn't to say they can't do it (I hate that I have to write that).

    Typically you'll want to avoid long range ARO as much as possible. Use Kuang Shi to guard corners, use MadTraps to prevent easy access to your units, and use one or two Husong to keep units from getting too close (but avoid trying to prevent enemies from claiming their side of the board until you've used an active turn or two punishing them).

    Basically, ISS's shtick is to have a ridiculously strong active turn with top notch unit thanks to the metric ton of kuang-shi orders to wreak havoc, but conceding the board to your opponent in reactive. You have a bunch of option to slow him down, like a warcor and chayi for the cheap and disposable flashpulses, but you have nothing that will stop your opponent dead in its tracks (except wu-mings maybe).

    I used to put Lunah on ARO duty, but since the MMLX rework i guess it would be kind of a waste.

    I understand what you guys are saying but when playing a mission like supplies and going second, it is very hard to come back if the lack of Aro allows them to grab 2 objectives and run away with them.....I understand I wont be able to stop them in their tracks but I need to slow them down enough to give me time to retaliate hard...

    You go over to their side of the table and shoot the enemy holding the boxes. If you are the only person holding a box because you shot the people holding boxes on the last turn, you win.

    If you want to defend mid-field objectives, the kanren with madtraps is your man.

    tried that yesterday and got the worst luck ever....was in suppression, this small dude came with its light flame thrower, missed all my shots and missed all my saves....that resumes my first Su jian game...was so depressing lolll.

    Played something very similar in my second game and the Hsien was a boss....I like you variation and will take a closer look at it. Might try to add some madtraps though

    Happens to all of us. Heads up, Su Jian will be worth its point costs in tons of gold.

    My "core" of list is 6+ Kuang Shi, 2 CG Controller, Ninja KHD and Sophotect. From there on, you can go with Su Jian and Rui Shi. Or a Hsien (Haris). Or a Core Link with Clestial Guard and Crane Rank.

    Because you are new to the game, I personally suggest not to start with fireteams. Maybe you like something like this.

    Rui Shi and Su Jian are two fast moving attack pieces. Ninja can do some scenario and Sophie gets your boys back on their feet. Climbing Plus on the Su Jian (and going prone on top of high buildings) helps to protect him. then threat the opponent with your other stuff and he has to decide, what to do. Celestial Guard hacker for Fairy Dust and Assited Fire.

    Getting started is hard, I know that feeling ;)

    Fun thing is; Infinity is the worst game for list hunting. Even if one grabs a tournament winner's list, without proper moving/tactic/table will give the player another bland experience.

    Still, some tips;
    1. Rangebands - ALL HMG list would be funny to look at, but when such list fail to catch enemies on their optimal range (i.e. 'Mid-Long' range of 16-32) You will see it wither into dumb little machine gun. Split the ranges, and try to cover them with your various guns. For a new ISS player Hsien HMG tends to give the most happy output, so pick him.. and for your next pick, which compensates HMG weak band, such as Wu Ming CR SMG. That guy will help you fighting close range.
    2. Roadblocks, or speedbumps - You can't attack forever. Yeah you can shoot people all day long, but that means your opppnent can do the same thing to you. ISS tend to bring both types quite awesome, former represented as Wu Ming Chain Rifle Sub Machine Gun (which is, at the very verge of OP min-maxing), and the latter is, Flash pulse shooters. This includes a Warcor too. Flash pulse is the key ARO piece in the game; For that, I can suggest bringing Celestial Guard Forward Observer and Warcor, best if you can joint ARO lanes with some scary guns like Total Reaction Bots.
    3. Overextending - Killing is great. Its the fun part. But on the reactive turn basically all unit in infinity is vulerable to your opponent, and this includes Hsien HMG. These guys are not invincible. Don't overextend without reasons. IS tend to rely upon key pieces like Su Jian, Hsien or so heavily, and losing them will leave you powerless. Let Kuang Shis, CGs die; don't let your enemy take your Authority units.
    Wish I could attend your play, but I suppose you don't play in Korea. ;))

    I tried this out a few days ago and liked it.

    While they are not big weapons, people seem to forget the Mercs. Miranda Ashcroft has ODD, and Sforza with Holo2 and Viral Rifle. I also love .5 SWC 21pt Bounty Hunter Snipers. Cheap enough I don't feel too bad to loose them but when the enemy sees them covering an area, they get concerned Also BS12! Lunah is ok as ARO but she's best as an attacker.

    Dakini HMG/MSR isn't bad at all too. Mimetisim and can be upgraded by a hacker! With BS11 i'd like the number of dice of the HMG also only 1 SWC. It kind of depends on the mission for me. Since they are AVA2 I like them as Medic specialists a lot.

    Also, just saying, AVA3 Total Action HMG Remote. They can scare people by weight of numbers. If they all see the same thing that's 12 shots in ARO!

    That, my friend, is a 0.879% chance of happening - less than 1%, and that's still counting hits that they saved and you didn't even hit them. Failing 4 saves with Su-Jian alone is 2.58%, but also not being able to put your opponent in unconscious is 34%.

    Either you've spent all your bad luck for at least a few months or... you know... stay the hell away from gambling because Lady Luck clearly hates your face ;)

    I would recommend to use dice from any Operation: Smth box as thus their poor balance would be profitable :P
