Pheasant Sniper usefull against Ariadna?

    Hello Guys!

    Since the update of Marksmann LvL X I think about to use Pheasant Sniper in my ISS against TAK....
    Have anyone here experience with him?

    A CG and 8 Kuang Shis will perform better than MSR Pheasant. Sadly.

    Yes but this is "unexpected" in the same way as it's unexpected to intimidate somone by shooting your kneecaps off. Sure, it might work but almost certainly not worth it.

    Honestly, if you want to exploit the new MM:LX then use Lunah. She's miles better than him for such a job and even sport Viral Ammo which Ariadna loathes.

    Luna is amazing! Use her in most of my games and even in Aristeia!

    So what do you think about the Guilang instead? Yes I know Vanilla but he seems a really go Camo Hunter....

    @AgentWu I've been trying the new Daoying Sniper and I must admit I like her better. Minelayer, better BS, better ARM, 2 free orders for herself and Forward Deployment for 1 point less than the Guilang. I know this means you're basically forced to use a CoC but I do that mostly anyway (if not, I use the Hac Tao Executive Order). I like her a lot and I think she's a good shooter for her points while giving you a good WIP roll for the Lt. Roll. :)

    I say try it. What's the worse that can happen? You loose a game that might be fun even when you loose. But i'm about fun over winning. It could actually be interesting to do a Bao Combi + Bao MSR + Peasant MSR core. I know i'd be intimidated a bit. Lunah is great. Love her but she can't get 3 shots on the attack and 2 in ARO! :grimacing:

    Also, doesn't the Pheasant get +1 Burst from the link team and +3 BS? So +6 Marksmanship, +3 link team, MSV1, No Cover. He can't miss camo/Mimitisim (BS12+6+3=21) troops and TO camo/ODD is at 18s. (BS12+6+3-3=18)

    Edit: Just did a quick look and he is the only trooper with Marksman LX that can be in a link team.

    Edit again!: sorry I keep having thoughts on this. Now think about adding in a Zhanying with Nimbus Grenade! I've already tried this with Lunah and it works great. But the Pheasant can shoot two different guys once or one guy once with MLX. (Supposedly with saturation the burst is lowered by one per target. Not the whole burst.)

    So burst 1, BS12+6 MLX, +3 Link team, -3 Nimbus, No cover, No camo = 18s.
    Any shooting back is going to be -1 burst, and -3 to hit. Not as good as Lunah but i don't mind.

    This would be a anti-camo nightmare. 1 MSV1, 6 MSV2, 1 Sensor. One of the MSV2 can be buffed to have Marksmanship L2.

    @Space Ranger Have a look at USAR Grunts.

    Just be aware that when in a link it's not as common for Marksmanship LX to be worth sacrificing 2B for. And no, the Pheasant can't Marksmanship LX two targets at the same time. The skill's burst value goes down to 1 when you use Marksmanship LX and Fireteam bonuses do not apply to Entire Order skills.

    On paper the pheasant sniper isn't that bad anymore and has really interesting odds against a bunch of scary units (like frontoviks in 5-man team), especially when linked with bao and/or firing through nimbus.
    The problem is to get him into position. Since marksmanship LX is now a long skill, you'll either have to survive a face-to-face with whatever you want to headshot, or deploy him directly into position and with first turn. Sun Tze can help with the latter, but it's really going through a lot of trouble just to set-up one deadly shot.

    Side note, but i now kinda wish Sun Tze V2 kept his MMLX. That would synergize very nicely with his strategos ability.

    Well I did say it was a quick look lol. But okay one of 2 that can be in a fireteam.

    How so? The skill specifically says that mods are stackable (see below). I can't find anything in fireteams. If that were the case with long skills they wouldn't be able to spec fire too. We already know fireteams get the +3 to their BS. Spec fire says burst 1 period. MLX does not. Below it says it's stackable.

    EFFECTS
    • This Special Skill reduces the B value of his weapon to 1, and in return apply to that single shot a +6 BS MOD.
    • These MODs are stackable with any other applicable MODs.

    The +1 Burst for Fireteams does not apply to any Entire Order.

    Now the bad thing is the rest of the team! Bao really need to be updated! Compare them to other X-visor similar troops like Druze or Loup Garou, and you wonder why ever take them. It's even worse since Druze get Forward Deploy L1 in ITS this season. Totally mitigating their 4-2 move some.

    Because my Ikari Druze would love to have a shotgun hitting at 0 MOD at 24". Or, even +3 with a full link...

    [Edit] And, linked boarding shotguns through smoke is ridiculous...

    Bit of a tangent but I believe the Pheasant in a core link of Bao is in fact our best model to take down the Kamau sniper statistically speaking with 61-24% odds in their favour.

    You can even bump the odds to 72-15% odds with a nimbus grenade. I don't think anything in the entire game can top that in a straight-up firefight with this... thing.

    The main issue, again, is to get him into position. Sun tze can help, but alongside the Bao fireteam it bumps the total cost to 200pts, and that's just to set-up a gimmick...

    On the other hand, it's a good excuse to make a silly sniper list:

    I think if you want to play with sniper rifles and make the list less of a meme you want to work with the concept of spending SWC on Snipers to open a pathway for Yu Jings HI to move through and attack with low or no cost SWC weaponry. Something like this.
