Hey people. March ITS is coming up, and the 2 out from 4 missions are TAG-fond missions (I.E. Deadly Dance and Show of force). Like many of you guys, I saw our Orange boi and sighed. Should I? Should I serve one precious roster for our Mandarine Battle TAG? I'm currently trying to attend the 10-men ITS tourney with IA, not ISS which I pick for serious fights. This gives me quite a headache; whether to sacrifice Trusty Zuyong Haris to summon a joe TAG, or to sacrifice my potential mission scores of TAG bonuses and allowing an unexpected score gap BUT making moar bodies and ARO power. If you guys had a good/bad experience of running a TAG on ITS, I would love some help.
When it's a casual game, yes, when I'm playing for keeps, no. Playing the other mission parameters and selecting a list that can actively deny the opponent the ability to score with their TAG is more important than attempting to score with a mediocre piece of trash.
The Guijia works, and is occasionally necessary to score full points. If you want to win the whole tournament and believe you can pilot the TAG to victory, bring it. If it is more of a liability than the potential OP is worth in your meta or in your hands, leave it in the box. Personally, I use the giant robot for such scenarios.
Neither of those missions require you to use the TAG to score a major victory. Simply focus on denying points for your opponent and scoring elsewhere. Trying to argue you need to use the TAG to win a tournament, you might as well go and tell people ISS can't win these events because they don't have a TAG.
Thanks for the advises. Good to know I'm not crazy thinking Zuyong 2TA HMG Haris is better than Orange Boy.
I'm not saying use that specific set instead of a Guijia, I'm saying design your list to fill out the other mission parameters. So for deadly dance you make sure you pick a hard to kill Datatracker and make sure you can get aggressive enough to bring down theirs etc.
It's just really sad, considering how cool the Guijia model is! I want to take it, but it's just not as good as it needs to be for a serious competition.
I started painting the model, then I started listbuilding for Show of Force. Then I stopped painting the model ... Even for Show of Force, it feels like a heavy tax to field TAG. And it is one of the coolest models in the Infinity universe. Thats sad.
Yep, unfortunately, as gorgeous as the model is, there's no list you can make with a Guijia that is not made more competitively viable by removing the Guijia.
Realistically though for deadly dance TAG or no TAG unfortunately that mission is awfully balanced. A big decider on who wins is how the position for the domination zones starts out.
And show of force isn't exactly better, you have to keep your TAG alive for 3 turn against lists designed to take down TAG. If you go invincible, you'd probably be better off with a pair of Hulangs than a Guija for those missions.
For a Guijia, I say go Vanilla or go home! In IA you are not going to have many points left over for a good Link team anyway. Might as well go for other troops that can really support him. Guilang, Tigers, even a Liberto. Though maybe not in Limited.
I don't dislike the Guijia in TAG-oriented missions. When playing IA, I preffer fielding her with a defensive Zhanshi link and other anti-TAG options just to support it. Something like this: Invincible Army ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 GŪIJIĂ MULTI HMG, Heavy Flamethrower / AP CCW. (2 | 88) GŪIJIĂ PILOT Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. () HÚLÁNG (Fireteam: Duo) 2 Submachine Gun, E/M Grenades, D-Charges / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Knife. (0 | 41) RUI SHI Spitfire / Electric Pulse. (1 | 20) WÈIBĪNG Yaókòng Combi Rifle, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 16) ZHANSHI Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) ZHANSHI (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) ZHANSHI (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) HǍIDÀO (Multispectral Visor L2) MULTI Sniper / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 37) SON-BAE Yaókòng Smart Missile Launcher / Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 18) MECH-ENGINEER Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15) YÁOZĂO Electric Pulse. (0 | 3) GROUP 2 2 1 WÈIBĪNG Yaókòng Combi Rifle, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 16) CHAĪYÌ Yaókòng Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) WARCOR (Aerocam) Flash Pulse / Stun Pistol, Knife. (0 | 3) 6 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army You have plenty of specialist and a couple of attacking vectors.
It's been forever since I've even used a Guijia but if I remember right I liked doing the Triumvirate of Gujia, Husong HMG, and Weibing FO. Using command token on those three to move up supporting each other. I now like the idea of replacing Weibing with Rui Shi. The Rui Shi take the place as repeater and can be used for a hacker to buff itself or the Husong. I'd love to try Coordinate move-shoot with them. Husong shoots 2 hmg, Spitfire 1, Guijia, 1 EXP round. I only ever got to move-move.
Doesn't feel very 'Invincible Army', though. Barring that Hulang, that could just as easily be a White Banner army list.
I wouldn't arm a Zhanshi with an HMG, honestly... But for defensive duty I think they are ok. You can put the Son-Bae and Haidao MSR in a link for 88 points (I think), which gives you one of the best ARO pieces in the game and a solid cheap SML/ML. If you are playing a TAG-oriented mission then is pretty likely that your main offensive tool is the TAG, and by having this link + some unit dedicated to hunt down the enemy TAG you have your bases covered. Granted, I also believe that when thinking about IA, you think about HI. But since the option is there, why not take it?
I’m not saying that’s bad. Just that with Guijia it’s not going to “look” IA. You just won’t be able to afford a lot of HI.
