Yeah, as a faction badly famous for that MSV-Smoking, some questions about 'Reactive' turn smoking. Like, my monk sacrificing himself to pop up a smoke for Hsien. 1) When smoke pops up on my reactive turn, and if a unit traverses to Hsien's LoF - I declared to shoot him back. Will this give my oppo -6 if he also declares shooting? 2) Smoke pops up, and my oppo gave me an angle for engage. My ARO of Hsien would be an engage. Can my oppo unit shoot Hsien back, or he gets busted on his face helplessly? 3) Smoke pops up, and my oppo advances his link team forward. My Hsien can see multiple targets, and he declares shooting to a link member, not a leader. Can leader avenge his member by shooting Hsien, or he cant do nothing while his linkmen eats a bullet? Thanks for reading. ;)
Yes he can declare BS Attack as his second Short Skill and will receive the -6 MOD unless he has a way to cancel it (like Sixth Sense L2). Your opponent can Dodge vs your Engage. He can't shoot you since your Engage is not an Attack, so Sixth Sense doesn't trigger, and you're not shooting him first, so the "shooting back through Zero Vis Zones" condition doesn't trigger. Only the someone that is target of an Attack can shoot back, so unless you're hitting multiple targets with the Nanopulser through Smoke only the guy getting blasted in the face by your HMG can retaliate. He in turn is not the Link Leader so can't shoot you either. Which means the Link can Dodge and that's about the best chance they have to avoid your shot. You might want to read up on Smoke, Zero Vis Zones and Sixth Sense rules in detail. Just to make sure to understand the rule interactions and why exactly they happen.
Thanks mate. Been wondering after a tough match against OSS, where 3) happened; apparently he did not want me to shoot his linkmate dakini with a free shot, and since he didn't wanna accept wiki I had to ask it into forums. Kudos.
Smoke is irrelevant in all of these questions if its use was declared during the same order. 1) Yes, unless they have MSV2+ or Sixth Sense L2 (or Sixth Sense L1 and you're inside ZoC) 2) Engage is not a BS Attack and will not grant LoF as attacks through ZvZ would. They can only CC Attack as a Face to Face unless they do not have MSV2+. Dodge will not produce a Face to Face because Engage is not an attack, but rather a Dodge effect itself. 3) They can declare Dodge.
Are we sure on that? As Engage doesn't gain B2B until resolution wouldn't CC be invalid? I think it would depend on the smoke positioning. If there is a spot in the Engage path that the reactive unit isn't in the smoke would the active unit get to BS as it would have LoS? The Active Unit could Dodge as that is something they could declare no matter what, but making it a F2F I'm not sure about.
Yes you can CC against a model doing an Engage against you. Check the rule effect : If the target of Engage declares an Attack of any kind, including a CC Attack, against the user, and wins the Face to Face Roll, then the user receives all pertinent impacts and makes his ARM/BTS Rolls without moving.
@ObviousGray just so we're on the same page. The Smoke has to be down before any of that happened and not during the same Order.
Thanks. I was going to go digging, but had a bunch of last minute stuff dropped on my lap here at work.
