Well, the pictures of YJ miniatures in this topic remind me why I chose this army, I love Yj models .
By playing SoF, duh! You can even get the third one as well. Fun thing is that my local scene occasionally run SoF events. They are more common than SpecOps-enabled ones, anyway.
I got my starter today, super impressed at how the sculpts are cut to be attached. Everything went together super smooth. This however does present a potential problem for weapon as most appear to have solid joins to the arms and or body and head.
Yup, I'm replacing those with the older style myself. In a way, the new sculpt splits are often better. set up so that they're less likely to warp (though that didn't work so well on the Daiyokai), and fit together really well. But they can make weapons swaps a lot harder than they used to be...
it's pretty obvious that during their conception whatever the Daoying were, they were HI. Must've changed pretty late in development.
A lot of IA feels like it was reworked late in development, especially the quick out-of-place cuts of the Tiger and Daofei. It definitely could have used a bit more time in the oven.
This is one of the main things that confuses me about Corvus Belli's management of their game. They have an innovative and player friendly online army builder app, but seem reluctant to modify profiles once they're up. I understand that it's more work, but they have not only an active and vocal (albeit salty) online community, but a whole legion of warcors to chip in as well. Profiles like the Guijia and Shang-Ji are still playable of course, but they are hard to justify even within their own sectorial - where they should be highlighted if anything. I don't want all profiles to be OP, but I do want the "any list will work well" concept that I was sold when I started playing this game. As a side note; there's also the growing feeling that Yu Jing are simply the evil empire jobber antagonists from the staff at Corvus Belli's rpg. As much as Bostria talks about Yu Jing as if they're his child, the actions of Corvus Belli do not reflect that same admiration for the faction.
The thing is once you start making updates through army out of step with major releases people will expect it even more.
Then they should schedule it like GW and FFG have started doing. Start with once per year and do a once over of at least one sectorial per faction, or maybe just 3-4 units per faction. Their current business model of " this faction will be retired because no one plays it in ITS because the models are old and the profiles are suboptimal" is a self-fulfilling prophecy. .
As we could see in the data they released around Uprising, recently released models, particularly from starter sets, massively increase usage in Army for those particular models and profiles. Although, for some profiles even a new release is not able to increase list-building use. Poor Zhanying ML, you're not the model we want but apparently the model we deserve.
The same can be said for the Pheasant Rank with BSG. Why did they think we'd want the BSG let alone a Pheasant Rank! I don't think I think I've seen only one game where someone took a PR in the last year.
Chalk another one up to being pleased with how the IA Starter comes together. The assembly is fairly easy and the gaps are minimal. Here's a photo of all the parts as they appear in the box; note how the Liu Xing's head is attached to the left arm. Once put together it fits very well.
