Hey everybody, hope you all had a great start into the new year. As the title indicates, I have the following question for you guys: What are your New Year's resolutions for the hobby in 2019? For me it would be: Only play "Limited Insertion" lists on tournaments I attend. Attend the German Championship with a fully painted Invincible Army. Greetings Thomas
On my side there's a few : - No KS in 2019 - List the backlog - DONE, so far the count 263 minis - Avoid to increase the pile of shame - already FAILED, a friend as already order 6 for me as a gift - Replace the above by "don't buy anything that you won't paint quickly enough" so that will cover opportunistic Infinity's buy (like the Beyond Red Veil pack), new Blood Red Skies planes and the update of my starting Virai army (Beyond The Gates Of Antares). - No KS in 2019 - Continue to reduce the backlog - No KS in 2019 Did I mentioned No KS in 2019 ?
1. To actually get back into the hobby in general Seriously though, been completely out of the TTG loop for pretty much 18 months now, and sporadic at best before that, mainly down to real-life hammering my free time and any sort of motivation and my 2 kids. But I've resolved that this year I'm going to try and do at least one games night a month and get back into painting
I know it could be quite difficult and most of time it's not a matter of good will but, you know ... a thing called life. But sometime, it's just a matter of thinking about how you could deal with it. For painting it could be obvious that some self organisation helps a lot (on a personal note, I just raise from maybe 20 minis a year to more than 200 in the last 6 months. The gaming part could be trickier as it involves other people (I know) and I can identify 2 main causes here: - lack of people to play with (ie: friends too far or not involved in the same licences). Honestly I'm not the right person to help - lack of common time or no one available tonight or this week-end: there I have a few options: Try to organise a gaming night/day/afternoon/evening/... ahead. Send your friend a doodle or anything similar with several dates and see when the most are available (just be clear that some may miss it but it is normal, next time it will be someone else). Just being motivated to organise and showing it helps a lot. If you cannot receive your friends (not everyone lives in a 500m² house with several acres of garden ^^), maybe one of your motivated friend will be happy to host. That said, sometime karma will find all the ways possible to prevent you to succeed.
I'm another 'no kickstarters' in 2019. :D Also, no buying new minis in 2019 at all*! *except of course, if it's a CB limited edition figure that I like *oh, and there's still 2 kickstarters to be delivered, but I bought those ages ago *oh, and the Invincible Army preorder that I put in just before midnight 12/31... :D
Paint some bloody models!!! The 'pile of shame' is well over 300, and that's just Infinity models. Not counting the other games.
Hobby more (both painting and playing), kickstart and buy less. The pile of shame keeps growing instead of reducing, and i need to recover from my miniatures version of tsundoku (and the actual books version of it too, and videogames, and...) Spoiler: Tsundoku
Grave-digging the topic. How good have you been so far ? Astonishingly, I succeed at the no KS this year (I may be pushing luck as we're still one month ahead). Painted minis this year seems to be something like 75 so I will consider it as a mitigated success. Pile of shame increased to 330 or so even with a few almost completed (decals to be put, pin wash to add and varnish to finish), it a complete failure here.
For me it is one success and one semi success ;) I only played Limited Insertion this year, and I felt it was pretty successful. In total I participated in 7 tournaments with placements of 2/10, 7/18, 5/12, 13/26, 6/30, 2/9 and 33/62. I have to say that it was pretty annoying at times when you are so limited with list building while you play against 15+ order lists all the time, but a very cool challenge. My list codes in unsorted order : https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=3PAN3M4F https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=4ZWC5X35 https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=8SKZPBB4 https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=9CAG8BQB https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=AYPK7L93 https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=D49D8MYB https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=EMCCXB2A https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=FPCB22F6 https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=J4DF52H8 https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=T8JMAAKD https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=X9RFKH5Z https://army.infinitythegame.com/?l=XW4W56AE PS: Two tournaments where with random lists, try to figure out witch lists where used ;) I failed my second goal, playing fully painted Invincible Army on the German Championship. The army was fully painted, but I could not bring myself to play IA with the mission selection (Show of Force, Search and Rescue, Countermeasures, Transmission Matrix, Unmasking), and my LI pledge. So I opted for Nomads instead. In conclusion I have to say that this pledge kept me pretty motivated to finish my IA and challenge myself by being forced to play LI. I already have an idea for next year, only play with 3 SWC max on each tournament ;)
My resolution is to make Irises on at least one mini and succeed. Then paint more heroes. Followed by quickpainting a bunch of bad guys. Finally, get my two displays done.
