I've been hard at work making a few new tables for next year's Rose City Raid... Still have a long way to go with the damage before I get to painting, but this toy plane turns out to be an almost perfect 32mm scale C-130, so it had to be done. :)

Couple more photos of the plane...

And here is some perimeter fencing for my buddy's Ariadna table (I made 8 feet in total, 12 segments, 3 of which have been blown apart and collapsed for models to get through):

I really like your Idea with the Plane. Maybe you want to chip away a little stuff on the cut of wing, so it looks more like it was ripped off.
While I am quite inclined to steal that Idea, I know my wife would kill me for building terrain pieces of that sieze in our apartment :-D

Haha, my wife is more glad I’m finally using this huge toy for something. I’ve got a lot of damage to do, but I couldn’t find my rasp! So getting a new one today to give it all the scratching and damage, then adding torn plasticard panels, pipes, cables, and superstructure.

Made some progress on the table today, I couldn't finish the dirt on all the pieces (ran out of PVA) so I decided to paint what was ready for it. Next up is glue and snow before I call them done.

I get a lot of questions about the scale of the plane, it's a discontinued toy by Toys'R'Us, which is actually within 1" of being a perfectly to-scale C-130 (with a gatling gun strapped on). So while it is huge, it's appropriate for what it is.

Here are some scale shots as well to give you an idea just how massive the wreckage is (the same mini is in all 4 pictures):

That is awesome, I may need to chase down that monster for my airfield table. Because I can totally see a C130 still flying in 200 years!

The C130 is pretty much the DC3 of our days

I got to put primer down on everything:

    50623473_399374650817887_5223275909540216832_n.jpg

Also played a game on it (before primer, but with woods):

    50623516_1652465831727211_2828381379123740672_n.jpg

The map was very challenging, but enjoyable to play on. The wrecked plane wing is well over S2 so blocks a surprising amount of LOF. We also play RAW with the woods, so they block LOF and provide cover, in addition to the entire zone being saturation, low vis, and difficult terrain. Since there aren't many high areas you can climb on, LOF is all very close to the ground, so the trees and wreckage block a ton.

If the RAF has a say in it they will, I can honestly say it's the only plane ive ever had to jump out of... mainly because it's the only plane we have capable of doing it from!

@TheDiceAbide can I recommend some Druze markings on the bird, totally fitting with their Merc status

Because HMGovernment is far too cheap to buy a replacement before the wings rust off the existing fleet!

    Agreed!

    Either that or Caledonian markings.

I got to fly in a c-130 30 years ago during the Oz pilot strike (Fed.Govt called in the defence force pilots to move folks around) from Perth to Sydney.

They had it fitted for mass passenger seating. It was a noisy, bumpy and rather smelly aircraft on a loooooooong flight. But it beat taking the train back (the better part of THREE DAYS.)

The best part of the flight was the pilot announcement as we approached KSS (Sydney airport).
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking; Passengers are reminded that this IS still a military aircraft, and anyone attempting to disembark before we touch down WILL BE SHOT. That will be all."

I've got the plane ready for flocking! Fortunately two bottles of PVA just got delivered, so I'm well equipped for the task.

Here are some close up shots of the weathering on the plane too. You can see it's nothing amazing for miniature painting, but on the table it works out well for terrain.

I sure hope so! The snow eats up a ton so it may be close.

I know that it might seem crazy with all of that but some small scatter terrain would be good. Like broken containers that the plane was transporting would be good. Also a ditch that the plane made as it crashed would make some good cover. Just little things that can be cover or even objectives.

Yeah I’ve got a bunch of boxes and crates that were being transported that we use for scatter. Between the wreckage, trees, and crates the table has a pretty huge amount of cover.

Sounds awesome! Some broken trees would look really cool and make great terrain.

Indeed. Tree branches with foliage arranged to look as if the plane crashed through them would be quite functional too, as a low visibility zone, and possibly a saturation zone. it is already a very nice looking piece of terrain.

Pro Tip: Buy the PVA by the gallon, in jugs, not bottles. Nothing sucks like running out of glue. I've done it before. Lesson learned.
