For about 4 years, those guys have been looking at me sadly form my display cabinet: N3 made them no longer a representation of their respective unit, and there was nothing they could stand-in for (let's be honest, Feuerbach is a distnictive and rare weapon option). Yes, these are the original, 2ed Azra'il - 2 Feuerbachs, 2 AP Rifles & Panzerfausts and a Spitfire converted out of a Feuerbach. But recently, I got thinking about making them a non-orthodox Riot Grrls for a StarCo force. And that's the point where I need some help. The Riot Grrls have effectively 6 representable loadouts: Combi Rifle + Blitzen (in 3 flavours - vanilla, Haris and Specialist Operative, so I suppose I'll have use for 2).These are obviously covered with the AP Rifle + Panzerfaust Azra'il. Spitfire. Again, covered here. Multi Rifle. In the era of Dogged / NWI, access to Shock Ammo is very useful. So is DA for Anti-material use. And I have a Nomad Multi, or at least a front of it (off a Mobile Brigada). Boarding Shotgun (2 flavours, Vanilla & TinBot). Playing Haqq has taught me that having a Shotgun - especially in a fireteam - is very useful in close-range combat, especially in buildings. And I guess I have some Haqq BSG somewhere (one front, and one complete) Missile Launcher. Now, while I like MLs, I'm not sold on having one in a Grrl squad. Still, finding parts for one is not a problem. Of course, I could even get myself a 6th old Azra'il, I know a store that has them in stock. Though I'd rather prefer not to. So, the problem is twofold: Which loadout to skip, How to alter the 2 Feuerbach models to make sense? The way they're holding their hands is pretty unique... Suggestions?
Think you are totally right with skipping the Missile Launcher. It's a good aro piece but mostly you will use this link as Rambo. Against HI and Tags you will have the E/M grenade launcher of Emily. I think, I would make a complete armswap, but I would have to search first fitting one.
Yup, and Blitzens on the Grrls. A good Blitzen hit should deal with any hard target pretty effectively (E/M2, and any success is effectively a mission kill). The models have been armswapped already (well, one of them). Also, I'd prefer not to have to stip and repaint them - I like this scheme, and making 5 of them took me a bit of effort... I'd hate to put it to waste (considering cutting up the 2 Feuerbach models is hard enough...). I did actually considered buying actual Riot Grrls for StarCo, until I came around those five guys in my display cabinet... and tried to compare available profiles.
Allright, the topic is not dead. It took me awhile to get through my pile of unpainted models (never a very big one, since I try to keep it under control!), and I managed to get ot the Riot Boyz: the male equivalent ot Riot Grrls :P I ended up actually buying one more Panzerfaust Azra'il: Spoiler: More pics Of course, the original Panzerfaust was removed, and replaced with a ML. The rifle arm was replaced with a Azra'il Feuerbach's arm. I wanted to make him just running with the ML, but he was evidently holding a gun in his right hand, so I gave him a handgun. Both weapons came form Eisenkern Stromtrooper Accessory Pack. I have the MultiRifle Riot Boy painted too, but I wasn't able to get him varnished in time to take a pic. So - next time :) The BSG Riot Boy is still waiting for his turn.
All my models do shine that much these days :P (Valejjo Satin Varnish). The matt ones in the opening post were painted back in the day when I used Army Painter's matt varnish. Certainly it was looking way nicer, but occasionally frosted (I had to strip and repaint Carlotta Kowalsky because of that!), also, wasn't as durable as I'd like it to (and the LGS wasn't able to get it for me for quite a while at some moment, apparently something clogged up the supply chain...). As I said, the shiny stuff is way more reistant to wear & tear. Being shiny, it irritated me too in the beginning, but I got used to it. Some of the Polish community had similar opinion to yours - "not lookin' good: too shiny", but after seeing the models IRL, decided they could cope with it: simply a style. Especially if it is consistent across the entire collection. I'm toying with the idea of re-coating all my minis in matt (Army Painter showed back up), but given the size of my collection, it is not going to happen anytime soon. Besides, Army Painter turned out to be very vulnerable to atmospheric conditons of use - and I don't have the option of applying sprays indoors. So, gotta wait for the spring anyway... In the meantime, I'll get the BSG done, too :D
If you didn't butcher that Feuerbach too badly in removing it, I am contemplating using my original Azra'il as the new ORC Feuerbach (or weapon swapping with the ORC).
It was easily cut under and over the hand. Same as with the Spitfire conversion I did years ago. Actually it is the left hand with the Feuerbach's horizontal grip / handle that makes more trouble!
Aha! The shiny stuff is indeed a more durable finish... The trick is to use something like Testor's dullcote on the shiny finish. That way you get durability and a nice finish. Of course, test an inconspicuous area first, for frosting or other problems. Skip the Army Painter and go with the dullcote.
That's an interesting idea (especially givven I've been asked to paint a friend's army, and he'd rather go with no varnish at all than glossy one like i do!). Gotta check it. Could I ask you for exact catalogue number of the Testors product? They do a lot of stuff, and I can't exactly understeand which one should I use.
Varnishing is a deceptively complex topic. But in general your intuition has some data behind it. Here's a blog post about the matt vs. gloss varnish thing. The exact brand doesn't matter much, but better try whatever you're going to use on a test piece beforehand, just in case. Now, about frosting, there's a trick to it: And about spray paints in general including tips about working with them even in the middle of snow, here's Mel the Terrain Tutor with advice: TL;DR: Gloss, then matt is best after all, gently warm your spraycans before use, and a lamp will help varnish fully dry and cure and avoid frosting.
Just FYI, their products are sold in Poland under the Model Master brand. IIRC it's the same stuff, just renamed.
^^^That's useful. Here the product page, https://www.testors.com/product-catalog/testors-brands/testors/lacquer-paint/top-coats-and-thinners/ Dullcote is either 1160 for the brush on, or 1260 for the spray. SKU, UPC , etc are under the technical info tab. The Model Master page https://www.testors.com/product-cat...s-top-coats-thinners-cleaners/lacquer-primers The flat clear top coat, 201503 – Flat Clear 1 oz Bottle or 196003 – Flat Clear 3 oz Spray . A quick search will yield a fair number of hits about its uses. The stuff is ubiquitous where I am. Every store with an aisle of scale models will have a rack of Testor's products, including their very crappy paint brushes.
Well, I did not varnish my plastic model back in the day. Didn't knew I should... or even could. Mid-90s, and those Testors enamels were pretty expensive for me back then!
Guys, I need help with the concept. I have the last Azra'il Feuerbach (first to the left on the opening photo) on my workbench, trying to turn him into BSG. What can be doing with his left hand? The one that originally holds the Feuerbach's top handle? I thought he migh've been racking the slide (of a Haqq BSG), but I've just chcked it, and it would requite me to cut the arm at the elbow and turn it 180 degrees there (you simply cannot have your hand palm-up with your forearm not facing inside up, i.e. opposite to the model in question). So, he'd rather have his shotgun point elsewhere, and be busy woing something else with his left hand. The problem is - swinging a knife is already taken by the spitfire conversion (I had the same problem there), and the runner with MultiRifle (not yet pictured, made off the second to left model) is running with a Stun Grenade in his off hand. But what about this guy? Any ideas?
Well, I've seen a 'chainsaw' type handle for pump shotguns, so you could add that with some wire. I think it's more tacti-cool than tactically useful, though. Edit: for more pics, search for 'mossberg chainsaw'
Thanks :) I mean, not a great solution, but definitely a workable one. I could go with that (unless someone comes up with a better idea).
