i think it comes down to a sparse selection of up-field specialists and lts tbh. you're seeing a lot of ninja khd because its the only camo state infiltrator, a lot of jager/bashi because theyre order efficient and specialists. brawler Lt in a tanko haris or keisotsu link becasue your only other lt costs a swc for example and the links keep them safe.
i personally think there's a decent enough spread of builds ( i came from merovingia and corregidor in N2) with all the light infantry/warbands and skirmishers on one end of the scale and the large range of good HI on the other end that you can really mix it up a bit.
We've got decent enough hacking, spec fire, plenty of CC, smoke and msv2, good AD options, bikers, REMs, reasonable TAG. Cheap LI link with BS12/13 heavy weapon options. There's plenty in the faction tbh, just not a lot of camo. But we're still better than morats and phalanx for camo and AD specialists and they manage fine without

Thanks for the heads up. Basically it comes or should come down to what faction has sectorials & models that you like or won't mind buying into. Now that we have NA-2 or Merc forces people can add those to the mix depending on what faction they pick. Which means Nomads, Yu Jing, Haqqislam are the best factions for sectorial choices when you consider the amount of units or former units in Yu Jing's case (JSA) that cross faction/sectorial lines. Ariadna only has a couple of certain units and they are mostly USA in origin.

Funny you should mention that but I also came for Merovingia as well when N3 dropped. They were basically the cheapest faction/sectorial I could get into at the time. I still have them and are in the midst of finishing the whole force. Just need to grab a few more models/loadouts.

I bought a bulk of my Ikari force off a friend who changed his mind when the IA news started dropping. He also said that he was concerned that Ikari wouldn’t receive any support after the initial release. Which kind of surprised me - not because I don’t think that Ikari won’t receive any new stuff, but rather because the thought that Ikari is unfinished, or unintentionally lacking in any form had never crossed my mind.

To me Ikari is the first non-Vanilla faction that manages to continuously hold my interest because not only do we have 3 interesting core link options, but also a ton of fun/cool units.

For me it works like this when pondering a new army - can I fit everything I find interesting to play into one list? No? Then that’s a very good sign.

PS: Big thanks to the previous posters for the new ideas! (HRL Brawler...)

The best thing about Ikari is that you either already have the models from somewhere else, or now you have the models for somewhere else... I'm already getting most of the way towards beIng able to play Druze at somepoint in the future...

I went from Druze to Ikari to add more diversity. You should consider them similar to 2 Sectorals of a vanilla faction. I think either does not have enough options to consider stand alone. But as 2 halves of a NA2 faction it gives you enough options to not get bored. I just recommend you find preferred proxies for remotes, otherwise you will be getting a lot S5 remotes.

@Cannon Fodder Speaking of which what Remote design do you prefer for Mercs or in general?

I figured its easier to show you, a couple points.
    • I cloned a the gun from a Yan Huo, and used it on my Sierra remote
    • The Clipper is the Chicken walker with the nomad missile launcher bit
    • My evo remote (either sectral) is the nomad remote. I got the one withe the crazy koallas which I use as my Nasmat/helper bots.
    • I had some extra pieces from my peacekeepers, which made nice antenna\repeater for my pathfinder\Fugazi
    • I used some more cloned guns from the new Haqq remotes and peacekeeper to replace the guns on YuJing remotes.
    • The pile in the back are my HoloEchos. I love having a courtesy list with 8 RuShis

@Cannon Fodder Thank you for the large pic. The different remotes mesh together well do to having the same color scheme. The new Haqqislam remote looks nice and the legs remind me slightly of the Combined remotes which I do like alot. I guess picking the remotes you like best, especially for Merc forces, does work out well in the end.

I find all the remotes inside each faction look to similar to each other. I can't tell the difference between all the Nomad remotes, they are all based on the same sculpt with a couple slight variations. By mixing and matching it makes it more interesting and if you are playing multiple remotes in the same list its actually easier not to get confused.

That's true. I'll look into expanding my remote choice in the near future.

I did something similar, I use the new Haqq ones for weapon toting (Pathfinder, Sierra, and Clipper), and the cute little Fugazi, well, as Fugazi. I also use Haqq EVO/Baggage, because they look way better.

Just picked up this faction and I think there is some additional potential. One thing I"ve noticed is that although you do see a smaller number of model profiles, the faction has a LOT of models where you get an enormous number of loadout options that allow you to do some interesting things.

For example....I think Ikari has the potential to build some nasty smart missile launcher lists. Although they don't hack as well as nomads, they have an additional trick up their sleeve that Nomads don't: you aren't reliant on the hackers. Including a Ninja means you get infiltrating, TO Forward Observer that allows you to mark targets using either a hacker or the FO depending on your opponent's EW capabilities.

The proxy potential is great too. I'm doing a lot of that. I want to have a figure from almost ever faction in my Ikari. Im even thinking of using a Tohaa somehow.

The Ninja FO is great but one thing that's not bad is somewhat expendable Keisotus FOs. Their WIP is much better than their BS! I recommend the Pathfinder as well.

There is the Cube Jager. A natural Tohaa unit that could easy be the filler for the Tohaa model you are thinking of using.

I’ve got him but it’s not an obvious Tohaa. I want to do something that when you see it, you know it’s Tohaa. I think I found it. The Sukeul I think has a missile launcher. It’s a possible proxy for a Tanko MSL.
