I am extremely new to Infinity, have not played one game and starting out with the Bakunin starter (6 models) and I am going up against the JSA army box which is 10 models and I am assuming there are bigger heavier hitters in there (i see a big guy in the back and a model on a bike on the the picture on the box...)

What can i add to my starter to round out my team to be some form of a match to the JSA army box team? (without going over 10 models) I am looking at some stuff but i honestly dont know how to build a team and what is ultimately needed. I do know I want Cassandra Kusanagi and I dont have a sniper sniper so figured I would need one if there is a solo sniper to use, do i need a healer?. I saw theres some bounty hunters (and this is me thinking the models look amazing (they all do) if i can add one in to do a job that needed filled, and I do like the bots but from what i gather, some have to have operators to field them but im not sure about some of the bigger spider ones...

Like i said, i am in a position that i have no knowledge of - trying to google and youtube information but not finding much help in expanding the starter.

    Hey, welcome to Infinity.

Short answer is "play a Demo first". Whereabouts in the world are you?

Ideally the first demo is 3 lone troops + 1 HI or similar. This will teach you the basics of gameplay before getting into list building. Jumping into a full 300pt list off the bat is a recipe for confusion. I'd then suggest a 150 and 200 pt Games before jumping in to 300pts (standard infinity is 300pts but smaller games tend to have less things going on so are easier to learn in).

Long answer is in Infinity the number of Troopers doesn't need to be the same, the pts value of the Army needs to be. 10 troopers is the maximum that can be in a single combat group so it's reasonable to keep them to that size for some factions (but others will approach 20 troopers). Bakunin usually runs from 13-16 (but can go bigger or smaller).

There's a fair few guides on how to build lists floating around, but ultimately lists are personal (you need to make them work) and should be tailored (for the mission, potentially opponent and maybe the table). There's an art (and arguably a science) to good list building.

That being said here are three examples based primarily around the models you can easily buy to expand the starter (rather than on what is necessarily "best").

The cheapest way to get the Bakunin starter to a playable 300pt list is:

    Zeroes Blister
    Reverend Healer Blister
    Reverend Moiras Box

    [IMG] Jurisdictional Command of Bakunin
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    GROUP 1[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]10
[IMG] REVEREND HEALER Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 32)
[IMG] REVEREND MOIRA MULTI Rifle / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0 | 30)
[IMG] REVEREND MOIRA HMG / Pistol, Shock CCW. (1.5 | 34)
[IMG] REVEREND MOIRA MULTI Rifle + E/M Light Grenade Launcher / Pistol, Shock CCW. (1 | 34)
[IMG] REVEREND MOIRA MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Shock CCW. (1.5 | 34)
[IMG] RIOT GRRL MULTI Rifle, Stun Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 32)
[IMG] ZERO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21)
[IMG] ZERO (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19)
[IMG] MODERATOR Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)
[IMG] MODERATOR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)

    GROUP 2[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]1 [IMG]1 [IMG]1
[IMG] MORLOCK Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Assault Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 8)
    [IMG] SIN-EATER HMG / Pistol, CCW. (2 | 33)

    6 SWC | 295 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

It's perfectly playable but really quite narrow (should give that JSA list concerns though). Reverend Moiras do require some finesse so starting out that may be a challenge.

What I'd actually suggest as a "quickest way to a playable 300pts of Bakunin" is:

    Riot Grrls Box
    Riot Grrl Spitfire Blister
    Zeroes Blister
    Morlocks Box

    [IMG] Jurisdictional Command of Bakunin
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

[IMG] REVEREND MOIRA MULTI Rifle / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0 | 30)
[IMG] ZERO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21)
[IMG] ZERO (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19)
[IMG] MODERATOR Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)
[IMG] MODERATOR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)
[IMG] RIOT GRRL Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 34)
[IMG] RIOT GRRL Boarding Shotgun, Stun Grenades + TinBot B (Deflector L2) / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 30)

[IMG] RIOT GRRL (Specialist Operative) Combi Rifle, Blitzen, Stun Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 30)
[IMG] RIOT GRRL MULTI Rifle, Stun Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 32)

    GROUP 2[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]1 [IMG]3 [IMG]3
    [IMG] SIN-EATER HMG / Pistol, CCW. (2 | 33)
[IMG] MORLOCK Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Assault Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 8)
[IMG] MORLOCK Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, E/M CCW. (0 | 6)
[IMG] MORLOCK Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, E/M CCW. (0 | 6)

    6 SWC | 300 Points

Grrls are the punk rock to the Reverend Moiras violin concerto. They're brutal and punchy and a fun way to learn.

Zeroes and Morlocks are Bakunin staples so you'll want them whatever.

Something that fits your desires (Kusanagi) but is still very Bakunin is something like this:

    Kusanagi
    Reverend Healer
    Zeros Blister
    Morlocks Box
    Moderatora Box
    REM Box

    [IMG] Jurisdictional Command of Bakunin

[IMG] MODERATOR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)
[IMG] MODERATOR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)
[IMG] MODERATOR MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 17)
[IMG] KUSANAGI MULTI Rifle + Light Flamethrower, E/M Grenades / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0 | 44)

[IMG] MORLOCK Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, E/M CCW. (0 | 6)
[IMG] TRANSDUCTOR ZOND Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)

    6 SWC | 300 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

You'll need to proxy (use instead of) your Moira Multirifle as a Custodier (nobody will really mind). You'll also need to proxy Moderators as having different weapons to what the model has (just be clear about it).

Unfortunately Bounty Hunters can't be used in Bakunin as Bounty Hunters (you can always Proxy them as something else though).

are you fighting the army box at 300 Pts ? I'd start with lower point games first, around 150 or 200 for a while.

Personally i started infinity with bakunin, and expanded with a few more moderators and one custodier, and also the chimera. I loved it!
(although that starter was 3x mod, zero, sin-eater, moira)
I got kusanagi not too long after, a nice model (at least back then).

For the bots the small zondbot are helper bots for the engineer and doctor (not paramedic). All other bot (REM) needs 1 hacker of any kind in your list. The Salyut EVO is a hacker himself and can unlock himself and other bots.

As you start with smaller games you'll better see what needs filing in your play style.

This is all a lot to take in. I am ok with starting small and just use the starter itself. Building a list in infinity is foreign to me coming from 40k or warmachine. the unit types get confusing when not know what does what.

Im in the US, the infinity community is rather slim in my area but i found some playing. Whats happening is a friend has the JSA but he is new as well. So rather get myself more models, what could they take out to make up 150 points?

I tried to put in the armies in army builder but im not sure if i am getting the correct model with the right loadout since the box only says one weapon for each model.

Sorry for the confusion and thank you for your help! The community here is great I just wish i had someone in person to help me out.

I wouldn't worry much about using the correct load out for the model, especially when new. Generally infinity is rather proxy friendly even competitivly. What's important is that you and your opponent are open about what the models are.

The Bakunin box has six dudes
    2 moderators with Combi rifles
1 Morlock with a smoke light grenade launcher
1 riot grrl with a multi rifle
    1 sin eaters hmg
1 rev moria with a multi rifle

That's 127 points and 3 swc. The moderators can be the LT. (If you pick a Moira LT it will cost you one more swc) Your buddy can just make a list with his dudes to be roughly 127 points.

You get 1 point of swc for every increment of 50 points. So up to 150 unlocks 3 swc to spend on an army. If you played at say 200 points you could spend up to 4 swc.

Edit: also starting out it's not a bad idea to start slow, play a game or two of three moderators v 3 tokusetu to get a general idea of basic mechanics. Then add a guy at a time. You don't need to play exatly the same points starting out so long as you're learning and having fun.

One thing I'd like to add going forward is that Kusanagi is an awesome striker with her Spitfire. I saw a lot of Nomad players in my area picking her for the +1 SWC, but I myself became a fan of the spitfire as the point lady on a 3 woman team. Kusanagi, a Custodier and a Healer will get a lot of stuff done and threathen a lot of range bands if you play them smartly.

However, for your first game you should really try something simple. Consider using only the starter box models vs your friend's starter box, that is, you run this:

    Jurisdictional Command of Bakunin
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]5 [IMG]1 [IMG]1
REVEREND MOIRA Lieutenant MULTI Rifle / Pistol, Shock CCW. (1 | 30)
MODERATOR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)
MODERATOR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)
RIOT GRRL MULTI Rifle, Stun Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 32)
MORLOCK Combi Rifle + Smoke Light Grenade Launcher / Pistol, AP CCW. (1 | 14)
    SIN-EATER HMG / Pistol, CCW. (2 | 33)

    4 SWC | 127 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

    And your friend runs this:

    Japanese Secessionist Army
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]6 [IMG]1
    KEISOTSU Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 9)
    KEISOTSU Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 9)
    KEISOTSU Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 9)
KUROSHI RIDER Lieutenant Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Breaker Pistol, AP + Shock CCW. (0 | 33)
KEMPEI (Chain of Command) Combi Rifle / Pistol, CCW, Electric Pulse. (0 | 22)
DAIYŌKAI Red Fury, Panzerfaust / Pistol, DA CC Weapon, AP CC Weapon. (1 | 49)

    1 SWC | 131 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

The points don't line up perfectly, but it feels a bit more fair and you can test your units and learn their rules before going for even more stuff and expanding your army to match his.

I like it. That’s what I needed. its all very new to me and my friend (he just has the money and went for the big box lol) we are going to try it out before heading to the FGLS for more games.

I like that Kusanagi is useful at Least in normal play... there are so many ‘rule of cool’ models in this game.

Thanks for all the replies, lord knows Idk what I’m doing lol so I need all the help you can give.

The Kusanagi Haris (a 3 nun Fireteam consisting of Spitfire Kusanagi + Reverend Custodier HD+ with Pitcher + Boarding Shotgun Reverend Healer) is one of the two top Bakunin Fireteams (the other is a 5-girl Riot Grrl core). It's extremely competitive (just not in all missions).

Expanding on the comments above about Infinity being proxy friendly, models are often designed to cover multiple loadouts.

For example your combi rifle Moderators can be a normal combi Moderator, or a Moderator Paramedic, and this would not even be considered a proxy. They can also easily fill in as a Moderator hacker or combi+Pitcher, just be sure to communicate this to your opponent.

Some boxes (like the Reverend Moiras box) have a model with no identifying weapon, often just a pistol or close combat weapon. These can be used as any profile as long as your opponent is clear on what it represents.

The Taskmaster box would be worth a look at too if you want a big guy in power armour and a big gun or two to throw at your opponent's face. same goes for the lunokhod blister, an effective bot to throw up the table and be a headache.

Operation Icestorm would be worth a look as you get a spektr (your 3rd zero), the better looking rev healer and some useful odds and ends if you ever want to branch into vanilla.

BSG Reverend Healer is awesome! Don't knock her.

I'd actually hold off on the Op:IS stuff until you work out you want to go vanilla / Corregidor. Other than the Spektr there's nothing there for Bakunin.

Lunokhod is extremely solid and Taskmasters are almost a necessity for some missions (Decap and Aquisition are two that it certainly lends itself to).

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Zoe and Pi-well yet. 2 of the best specialists in the game.

Thanks, I have looked into a group with bots. Sounds fun. But I have to keep the cost down now before I go off getting 20 models in my army right out the gate lol.

I thought about getting ice storm but I didn’t know if I really wanted the other army but I did like the the thrown in terrain.

I don’t think I want to go corregidor but I almost landed on Tunguska.

Now that I think about it how is the Bakunin objective game?

It's reasonable. You can take three zeroes, who are very very points-efficient. Most camo infiltrators have you paying for extra skills and gear you may or may not use. With the Zero you get full value because there are no extras. You'll be covered on button pushing for cheap.

For non-button missions you have the Riot Grrls team, who share a similar theme with Zeroes: you don't pay for any junk or weird abilities. The stuff they have (MSV, hyperdynamics) is really useful for marching into the center and holding ground aggressively. They'll see you through any mission where you have to control areas of the board.

Thanks I was wondering if I’d be hindered with my starter but I assume that the starter missions and what not won’t be too bad on any starter since there are more and a few.

If you like playing with the starter you'll like the army. I think it's pretty faithful to how the faction plays... more than the JSA box, anyway.

I am not sure how the JSA play, bits and pieces ive heard of nomads' style. but im excited to try it out. just have to get enough terrain to make the board work out for both teams.
