The discipline does not seem like as much of a problem, the Wu Ming regiment seems more like the "shit detail" in a country where human rights laws don't apply. Wu Ming are entrusted with military equipment of a quality exceeding most of the agents watching them and sent into the worst parts of the front without a Cube or a name to call their own, but are still more disciplined and trustworthy than many Ariadnan or Nomad units. They certainly don't come across as wastes of oxygen on their statlines!
Wow, you can make posts contributing nothing but a thinly veiled attempt at insulting. No, wait, we already knew that.
You see this isn't tactically sound, at all. The problem is you don't know what's under that camo marker and by exposing an entire link like this by shoving forwards you're putting them at high risk from shotgun template destruction. Link teams on the move are extremely vulnerable to teardrop impact templates because of their size, it makes it very likely when you push a link forwards if you shoot one guy you hit all of them because of how it interacts with moving models. Could be a Zero under that camo marker, could be a Bandit or Prowler with a shotgun. You're playing with figurative fire if you just run at them with no respect. Damage 13 light shotgun becomes alot scarier when it starts splashing a bunch of models. There's like practically no offensive repeater coverage in IA though this isn't a great plan to be building into, you don't even get deployable repeaters in the entire army. Closest bet is a Lu Duan but they're not really survive 3 turns and get to the end of the game material they're go first and try to trade up before you die units. They do and they're great but we don't need to hamstring them with Shang Ji, again, Zuyong can do the escorting. Which is 90% of the complaints about the Shang Ji is they're for some reason still designed as overpriced Zuyong much to everyone's confusion. Still haven't managed to figure out an IA list that I like for the Hulang. Unfortunately I'm starting to suspect they're probably just not that good with IA and are more a Vanilla piece.
Its certainly a cultural thing. The needs of the community/group come before the individual and that extends to even criminals. A strong sense of honor and shame are at play in Yu Jing society. To a Pano citizen, or modern western, it seems very strange but it certainly works. The Infinity RPG provides a wonderful look into the personality of Yu Jing Society. Family ties are of paramount importance to a Yu Jing citizen. The emperor himself derives his legitimacy from his family line.
They're fun, but pricy. Also highly table dependent, you really need to be able to Cautious Move or stay in Total Cover to get one up the board, but they're dynamite once they get up close to their targets. Gotta say a lot of IA comes off as more handy in Vanilla, given the weird difficulty of actually spending enough SWC unless leaning on a heavy Core fireteam. It looks like you need to really enjoy running aggressive links or lots of bots to get the best use out of IA, so it seems I shall likely switch back to Vanilla myself. Links are not worth the headaches that accompany using the bigger ones aggressively, and the difficulties running solo killers in the sectorial kind of kill it for me. Might give mass Snipers/ARO a chance first though. I tend to wind up using Weibing REMs as objective runners and mobile Repeaters throughout the game, because they are faster than all other Specialists save the Guijia and can both Sensor and receive Supportware, without the risk that comes with Infiltration and providing their precious order to my 10-man group. They are adequate at the job, but don't hold a candle to the Guilang FO outside of a dedicated infowar list.
There's nothing wrong with using the Weibings to run around and press buttons, they and their cross faction counterparts are honestly probably underused by people across the entire game, but this doesn't change the part where they're not really durable enough to be able to stick around like that and cover the table that easily. They're pretty easy to remove if someone takes a run at them. Unlike a Guilang crawling around on a rooftop dropping repeaters, those are annoying as shit to get at if you don't have speculative fire. Those are the kinds of repeaters that tend to last for an entire game. But those are the sorts of repeaters IA doesn't get. I think it's just the Hulangs really. I was in the same mind with the Mowangs and discussing it with the locals tonight, but someone managed to come up with a list that seemed decent so I've turned around on that a bit. Daoying's obviously great on both sides of the fence, Zencha's useful either way as well and as for the Liu Xing we've got a novel's worth of material on why he's a bad meme regardless of what you're playing and just gets worse when it's forced to compete with actually good AD troops in Vanilla. No point counting the Guijia because I can't really blame IA for the Guijia it's just a pile of crap no matter what you do with it. I was having a chat with one of the local players about it who was running IA tonight and he straight up called it a fucking joke of a model, which I laughed at. This same person ran a FOUR MODEL CORE ZUYONG LINK at a tournament recently. Not four Zuyongs and a Wildcard. Four models period. If even he finds the Guijia an irredeemable pile of shit it truly has no hope.
No, they’re not seen as redeemable. The only redemption they can possibly find is death, as different fluff bits note. There’s even one of a Wu Ming calling that out in a “trial”, where he notes no one ever makes it back to a real regiment and that the whole thing is a lie.
Yeah, the Hulang really wants smoke LGL to get into melee. Its tool kit is otherwise pretty sweet. E/M grenades are awesome. His biggest downside is his cost and generic Yu Jing has an easier time affording his cost. Note: Any missions with a saturation zones are going to awesome for Hulang. Ah but being able to serve in a combat role thats goes beyond "suicide bomber" is a form of redemption in itself. Someones honor reflects not just on themselves but on their family. If a criminal can die honorably in battle that will remove some of the shame a family suffers for having such a degenerate from their family line.
A trial that he lost, if I recall. How dare you take the word of a convicted criminal and low commoner over one of our esteemed Imperial Judges? The local Agents will be arriving shortly to correct your erroneous views ;).
There's nothing inherently wrong with four model links. As a frequent Tohaa player that's just started expermenting with sectorials, I find 5 man links very unweildy. +3 BS is great and all but the burst is the most important bonus and having a more flixible army can give you just as much of a benefit as the full link would have.
When you can increase the link to 5 by simply chucking a 13pt Panguling in there's no reason not to make it happen. The difference between 4 and 5 man links is for example shooting at a TR bot with your HMG Zuyong, decreasing your chance to cause a wound by 13% and increasing your chance to take a wound by 5%. Or shooting a BS11 ML link team, you decrease your chance to hit by 14% and increase your chance to take a wound by 13% You'd be quite frankly stupid not to invest in such a cheap upgrade to keep your expensive hitters alive.
That's exactly it. It's not necessarily personal honor being recovered, though if a Wu Ming does finish his sentence he gets his family name back. It's not shaming the ancestors with your actions. That's a cultural thing that just doesn't get grokked in most of the West, where we have been all about your personal honor for the last... ~500 years? Since the major collapse of the feudal system, anyway. But most Eastern societies were still in a feudal society 200 years ago, and had been in a feudal system for 2000+ years.
Save for the fact the "getting your name back" is a falsehood... all you get is another mission at the end. If the promise of redemption through surviving service is a fabrication, why wouldn't the IS simply mislead as to what was or wasn't accomplished, leaving the name tarnished?
That's a very large IF. It was certainly alleged (and the allegation resulted in getting more time added to the sentence). I'm not denying that it's possible that it's a fabrication. But it seems unlikely to fly, if NO-ONE ever comes back from a Wu Ming assignment. Barracks rumors get really out of hand when NO-ONE has come back, and nobody knows anyone who did.
