That sounds even better than I imagined. I hope these friendships last a long time for both parties involved.
I really dig your orange. Any specific mixes or is it layered? I'm also a huge sucker for the older schemes. Shang Ji is what got me into the game.
Some are definitely precious ;) I followed Angel Giraldez's recipe, exchanging some colours, Scrofulous Brown, Orange Brown, Orange Brown + Dead White, (I used Off White instead), Highlights with White (I used Ice Yellow instead), Deep lining with Scrofuulouus Brown, I've added some Soft Tone Ink (Army Painter) lining here and there, blended on some shadow areas. That's it. The orange/yellow is super easy to achieve - it is working around it that made for a crazy ride :P
So if I wanted to achieve something similar to the older schemes I would use less orange brown and use more orange yellow?
First of all the old stuff was pretty strongly photoshoped. To this day CB enchances the miniatures in their photos, which is easy to see once you compare Angel's 'finished' pictures and what you see on the box. That being said - I recommend setting the expectations a little bit lower than the picture above. That's what I would do. I took on the old colour scheme one time, here's the result: The short colour recipe is: Macharius Solar Orange (GW), Mix Strong Tone Ink (AP) 1:1 Soft Tone Ink (AP), Fire Dragon Bright (GW), If I wanted to take it to the 'picture above' level, I'll probably mixed Off White with Fire Dragon Bright and blended/edged it in. This was painted with regular brush. Have no idea how it woud work with an airbrush. Hope it helps.
https://web.archive.org/web/2013011...initythegame.com/infinity/en/category/yujing/ It does help! The old sites scheme for YJ I enjoy the most and looking at this archived page I can see what you mean about being photoshopped. I am a bit limited to Vallejo Game colours and some of the model colour line. So, maybe I can make it work based off of the charts that are out there for paints.
Definitelly. Vallejo is the best. I used GW colours, cause at that time I hadn't a wide variety of Orange from Vallejo plus Macharius is really well pigmented - very easy to put a smooth first layer. I'm sure Vallejo has a similar Orange-pastelle like colour. Vallejo Orange Fire seem similar, just a bit too bright - maybe add a bit of Cavalry Brown and it'll do!
Right, so I noticed that I do not have Heavy Orange which is the equivalent to Macharius Orange. Do you think I could get away with Fiery Orange 72.008?
I'm pretty excited about newly found colour recipe. This led me to make DIY Camo/Holoprojection markers. Colours match Yu-Jing, but will probably use them in Nomads also. Better than flat tokens.
I went even further. I use weirdly painted Malignos as my TO marker for Noctifer and plan to do the same with Anathematics for Sphynx.

Whoop! Whoop! Something super special for #VIRD GALLERY: "SHIMMERING CUTTER" SPECIAL PROJECT There's also a video of this one, dancing all around and round... This one was like ultra-challenge! Customer asked for it to be painted in a water reflections pattern, sent me a picture. Craaaazy lot of work, but it was worth the effort. XD
Oh, caustics pattern. Pity he picked the swiming pool colors. The water surface looks absurdly calm. Some gloss varnish or acrylic gel to make general waves and then rings around the legs would make it great. @TheRedZealot maybe be interested, as he wants to do resin, but full miniature.
The idea was that the Cutter stays calmly, ballanced perfectly, waitring for a green light to jump into action and I left water flat so it stays nicely translucent. Since the picture I already added tiny waves and some ripples tho, cause too many people pointed out hoow flat the water is :P
@nazroth You deserve some applause for the work you put into making the model's paint job look like that. How did you get the submerged water part of the base to work? I'd like to try to mimic that somehow.
Thanks man. I used a strip cut off a plastic water bottle and made a full circle out of it. The base's edge is slanted to I couldn;t just use it as a support for the strip - had to make it almost ideal - very difficult and in the end not perfect. Once I've painted the miniature I put the strip in place and sealed it from outside using air brush maskol (easy to remove mask putty). Then I just poured clear resin in - I used 'Crystalline 940'.
